Psone emulator

Hey Peeps,

I know there's a psone emu in dev for the wii my query is this;

Would it be possible for the Wii to play legit ps1 discs? (all black and shiny)

I mean I have no idea about the technicality but I do know a pc emu can handle it...

Would be a bizzare exp, playing a ps1 game on a wii with a gamecube controller....

No, because the Wii can only read DVDs. It can't read CDs.

is it not me that finds that strange, cds used to be a bonus 'hey look your next gen console can play music cds!'
A wii is essentially a gcube so suppose can't hope for much :|

Well it makes production costs cheaper if you exclude CD support and CD playing is not the saleable feature it once was as most people would already have a CD player and there is no practical use for CD support in the Wii so it is not that strange.

When Sony made their PS2 so it could read CDs and DVDs that was quite a newsworthy feature at the time they patented the method of doing it which didn't need 2 lasers.
