StrmnNrmn said this on his Blog (http://strmnnrmn.blogspot.com/) today.

I've had a fairly productive weekend. I've been working on a few improvements on the dynamic recompiler, and I've managed to both decrease the amount of memory it's using (by approximately 10-12%), and increase the emulator's speed (by around 7-10%).

I don't want to get into too many details just yet, as I'm planning on putting together a more detailed post with all the gory details (and a few graphs :) later in the week.

In a related change, I've also managed to identify and fix an issue (read 'bug') with the dynarec that may have been causing stability problems on v1.0 firmware PSPs. This may explain some of the differences in stability users of the different builds have been seeing.

i seriously love this guy. I hope that he makes it kernal mode for R7 too, because that should bump up the speed some

This may be great news and I am really pleased with daedalus but he has failed to see some faults with the R6 release,

automobile lamborgini -

R5 - in game

R6 - flashes at the start screen and you cant go any further.

Quest 64 -

R5 - in game

R6 - now crashes

Someday we will be able to play n64 games near full speed. I cant wait for the day when we can play Majora's Mask on the psp. The scene is evolving rapidly!

$n!per i'm with u, but theres still Mario Kart Super Curcuit Advanced thats runnin alright on zx's gba emu and i still rock the old school snes Mario Kart :D but if Mario Kart 64 ran flawlessly that would kiss @$$, hopefully the next release...hopefully

I'm as excited as anyone else about this, but I wonder if it really is possible to ever get full-speed N64 emulation? A 500-600MHz processor is required to even stand a chance on a PC.

If someone can get a 333MHz machine to run N64 at full speed, I'll be quite impressed (and pleased :P)

I truly can't wait till the release of R7 because in my eyes for some reason I don't know if some of you feel different but Mario 64 is almost playable to me like if we just recieved maybe another 5fps to the speed it would be remoteley playable. I can't stand when somebody says this will go bad in the end because all I can say is look at CORN that emulator ran Mario64 at full speed with sound, and the requirements were very little so I definently see this very possible with the PSP. The only main problem the PSP suffers though is the huge lack of memory. Hopefully Strmmmmn can work around this.

well even with the snes emu's now most use framskip 2-3 to optimize results, so on a 333MHz cpu and framskip 5 it might be choppy but it will be close to full speed

once you unzip the zip file, put the Daedalus and Daedalus% folders in the "GAME" folder (which is supposed to be inside the "PSP" folder)

in terms of snes emulation, i use snes9xtyl

I'm still worried in the end though how Strmmmn is going to implemate sound because for some reason I get the feeling he doesn't know how because if you look at his N64 emulator for the PC it doesn't support sound iether XD that is why I'm worried what might come out of this in the end. Sound is a very important factor for N64 too it wouldn't be the same playing Zelda Ocarina of Time and not having the original music.

July 24th, 2006, 19:23
He will get sound through the media engine soon I suspect maybe in R8 or R9. I am curious though can you use the media engine for other things like to help with rendering or somthing. I mean if you were to put an even amount of work onto both the main CPU and the ME you could probably get more power out of the system.

pk to tell u the truth i can do with out sound if the emu runs almost full speed, but it would be cool if we can have both :D

July 24th, 2006, 20:57
yea true but it doesnt go well for me cause what makes the game more enjoyable and memorable is the sound like instant classics like mario 64 and both zelda games on the 64.IMHO ill give up a few fps well just enough to make it still playable with sound then full speed with no sound with the above mentioned games i said and alot of people will agree on this with me.

Video_freak
July 25th, 2006, 10:04
i too would gladly give up some fps for sound emulaion , however, i dont think its going to be possible with the psp's 333 mhz cpu :( (the N64 cpu ran at over 90 mhz)

I'm Not bothered about sound most the time i play my psp with the sound off due to other things going on
