Uh, no? It offers 3GP and Video RSS support.
i know that dude. it also has them dang 'security patches' to block homebrew. and if you dont beleive me then go ahead and upgrade... then try to play DOOM or SNES9xTYL on your psp.

i was just emphasizing the fact that the upgrades are all crappy and the features are just a cover to the security patches. duh

There was a 1.5 -> 1.0 downgrader released recently.

Anywoh i just hope its DH compatible and Undiluted Platinum Compatible. Just ordered one :)

I just downloaded that eboot and it says:

"The system software of your PSP(tm) system is version 2.71
To start, you must update to version 2.80 or later.
For update methods, refer to the PSP(tm) system instruction manual."

Sony: we'll never force a firmware upgrade.

Here's a thought, and it too is weak.

What happens if you upgrade the PSP when it is running a simulated firmware through devhook? Since f0/f1 are hooked to the memcard, does it flash the faked firmware files? or does it hard code to the real f0/f1

i'm sure its the real f0/f1 but its worth a thought... come on booster, get NAND emulation working then we can all upgrade in memory! :)

This update is crap. You cant even stream the rss videos, you can only save them to your memory stick. Videos can now be played from ms0:/psp/video finally though.

Hopefully this firmware will be sorted out on Devhook soon(ish).

I want to buy the new Capcom Ghouls and Ghosts game (which is bound to have this new firmware), but i think i'll wait now till its hacked.

To be honest it would be better for devhook to hold back for a while, and let sony get comfortable again - hardly any games came out on 2.71, if devhook is upgraded straight away then they'll just release another firmware!!

I have to be able to play GTA Vice City Stories on my 1.5!

I agree with jangosolo /\ /\ This update seems a bit pointless to me.. :mad: Maybe they (booster) should wait for the firmware with PS1 emulation before the next Devhook and let $ony "get comfortable" in the meantime :)

I guess the reason it wasn't set for psp/video is to make it real freakin hard to figure out how to play video from your memory stick, thus forcing you to buy UMD movies (yeah right)
What I really wanna see is the psp recognize my sony walkman phone memory stick like it does with my sony camera

i wish sony would just get over themselves.

firmware updates are fine, providing they add something decent. trying to block everything is a fruitless task... and making games require newer firmwares is just lame.

i havent seen any full game that actually required 2.7+ myself.... i wonder if anything like GTA:VCS will actually *need* this? Sony will have only managed to delay my purchase of the game if that is the case.... since i'll need to wait for the 2.8 devhook update.

I agree.. its only a matter of time now before 2.7 is downgradable. The dirty Sony will have surely made 2.8 even more secured... so I think even if you have 2.7... its still not worth the upgrade.

Well, I took the chance and updated my 2.71. There is no guarentee it will get hacked, so why not get more features in the mean time? 1.51/1.52 weren't downgradable, while 2.0 was. 2.01 wasn't downgradable, while 2.5/2.6 were, so you never know what might happen.

What? Yes.. there is no guarentee it will get hacked... but it if it is hacked... it will be done well before the 2.8. And seriously... are the new features actually worth the risk? Personally.. I think the new features are the biggest pile of wank. RSS Video? Really... c'mon....

Again, sometimes later firmwares have been updated, while older ones aren't. You just never know...

i like sony for the thing that they wont give up...if it was me...and i made psp and released fw after fw that got hacked hacked and hacked...i would have given up long time ago. i think they should allow homebrew ..but the thing is...when homebrew is enabled..ppl are using iso loaders...piracy. thats the thing sony wants to stop..to bad that it is one for all, all for one.
i relaly hope that sony doesnt give up ;D maybe they could try meeting the brewers on the way.

i wont upgrade right now either tough. :)

I have an idea. What if someone ran the updater on there 2.71 devhook firmware. Wouldnt that just rewrite the 2.71 files and u could boot 2.71 through devhook to get the 2.80 firmware to run? Just a thought.

Is there any homebrew released for PS1? If so, at the start of 3.0 and with the release of the PS1 emulator homebrew could be possible again for the newbs who upgraded.
If you have to buy official games from Sony, do you really think they are going to let us buy homebrew from them?

I tried to decrypt 2.80 with the 2.7 prx decrypter to get the reboot.bin, but it just made files with zero byte size :( ah well...would have been sweet if it just 'worked'

The real reason that Sony keeps upgrading the firmware is so they can keep getting money from EVERYONE that owns a psp, because there will be no free way to play games on a great portable system!

on a lighter note im on 1.5 and i went to network update and downloaded the file just to read the features, but when i tried to run it, it booted to the accept screen then crashed back to the XMB,
quite funny, sony wont even let me update
