PSP Fanboy (http://www.pspfanboy.com/) have posted full details of whats new about the firmware:

You can now download video and image content under [RSS Channel];

You can now register devices via a wireless LAN access point under [LocationFree Player];
You can now play AAC files with file extension .3gp under [Music]; and

You can now play content saved in "Music," "Picture" and "Video" folders on a Memory Stick. (Apparently, this means you don't have to rename video files, and you can play them without using special folders.)

Have you upgraded, then let us know if its any good or not

The fact that its no longer needed to rename video files etc. is a great feature. Hopefully we'll see another release of DevHook soon. ;)

Hey everyone, i dont get the VIDEO folder thing will someone expalin it? please

At the minute you have to create folders "mp_root" in the memory card root then another folder named "100mnv01" in that then you put your videos in the but you have to name your videos m4vXXXXX.mp4 (X being numbers)... Phew! :( Apparently now you just bung them in the VIDEO folder and hey presto! ;)

Sony can throw all the updates in the world, but what they don't get is that no matter what they do, there will always be some flaw that will let us have our way.

Update 2.00 came out, we figured out how to run homebrew on it, then we found a way to downgrade it.

2.5/2.6 came out, again same thing happend here, but just a little longer.

then there's the story with the 2.71 being bricked for some reason, that could result in some flaw that could allow for downgrade/homebrew running!

They moved security updates to the license agreement that no one ever reads, that you must accept to update.

No, the VIDEO, PICTURE, and MUSIC folders are on the root of the memory stick, not in the psp folder.

cant wait for a devhook release for this new fw, not very impressive for sony though, still no ps1 emu...

hopefullly this firmware will be hacked

Well, this new firmware can be dumped but Sony changed the decryption keys again. Also the IPL filename has changed.

Give it time. Actually I think it might be better if people stop trying to decrypt and hack the PSP firmware until 3.0 comes out with the PSOne EMU. I only say this because if all of Sony's firmwares keep getting hacked, they may finally hit the nail on the head and figure out a way to make a super secure firmware that may not be able to be emulated. And I REALLY want to be able to play PSOne games on my 1.50 PSP.

They have been known to counter exploits relatively fast. Remember firmware 2.01 after the 2.00 downgrader?

The only feature I find useful is the new way to play videos without having to name them ridiculous names like MAQ54321.MP4 ---> But how does this work with thumbnail files? Can you have a movie named movie.mp4 and the corresponding thumbnail file named movie.thm?

We knew there wasn't going to be a ps1 emu yet. They released a calendar back in March, and the emulator is scheduled for release in the fall update.

i think that sony hires hackers to find flaws, then make safer firmwares. so i think sony has al ready found a flaw in 2.71!!! now its up to amature hackers to utilize it!

now im not sure if this is true or not but over at one particular site (wont say unless its allowed, not sure about the rules), they have already decrypted 2.80 and a devhook will be coming out soon to emulate it. has anyone else heard of this?
