Killzone 2 has become the recipient of the first ever Ivor Novello award for a videogame soundtrack at a ceremony held in London yesterday.

The game was nominated for the new best original score in a videogame category alongside Empire: Total War and and Savage Moon: Waldgeist.

Developed by Guerrilla Games, Killzone 2 featured a soundtrack composed by Joris de Man.

This year's 55th Ivor Novello Awards marked the first time videogames have been honoured in their own category alongside music from television and film, classical and contemporary songwriters.

"The Ivors has always sought to reflect the ever-changing world of songwriting and composing," Mark Fishlock, director of the Ivors Committee, explained when the game award was first unveiled. "The video games market has matured beyond recognition and big budget orchestral scores are regularly being commissioned."

Other categories included best contemporary song, best television soundtrack and and a lifetime achievement award. Winners are detailed on The Ivors website
