Hi All,

Here is a new version of PSPVBA the GameBoy Advance Emulator for PSP,
which is a bit faster compared to v1.2.3 (up to 3% on v-rally 3) !

* This version works for FW 1.5 AND 2.x :) *

What's new in version 1.2.4 :

- Improve the code of the graphic stuff (up to 3% faster)
- Improve the code of the ARM emulator (faster)
- Add BIOS file support (see the README)
- Add option to adjust the sound quality
- Add option to delete files (in the file selector)
- Bug fix in the save settings code
- Merge the code for 1.5FW and 2.xFW

How to use it ?

Have a look to the README.txt file !

This package is under GPL Copyright, read COPYING file for more information about it.

Enjoy, :D

Zx.

after playing on the first version of the GBA emulator i deemed it unplayable, i havent played on one since but after all these recent releases with speed increases and such i think its time i tried this emulator again.

i will post what i think after testing it and hope that it is infact as good as what everyone has made it out to be:)

Does this mean your not working on the ME 1.50 version anymore or simply that this is compatible with both OS's? Also since this doesn't use the ME how is it compare to the current ME version?

more than 95% of the source code is the same between the 2.x and 1.5fw version ... So it only means that i have shared the code, and build two different binaries (one with the media engine, and another with the classic audio stuff).

- Add BIOS file support (see the README)

Nice!

Sadly it didn't correct the ability to load the Classic NES series of games though. I was sure that was the issue. Still just a black screen. :(

I know they are playable on NES emulators, but I own two GBA Classic NES games currently and I'm trying to stay legit (or as legit as you can be with ROMs). :P

thanks for all the hard work ZX-81

And belive me, its slower

Final fantsy 1.2
Final fantasy Tactics

Edit: Sorry, it was my mistake, i rewrite the previous version, this was the problem, yes its a bit faster than previous

This is the first time I have tried psp-vba since I tried the first release, and I have to say the speed is amazing! But is there any way to improve the sound quality in future releases because while it's better than pspgba's sound it still is quite painful to listen to.

The bios file feature is mainly for game compatibility issue ... But, it's slower, so use it only if required ...

...really great emulator!!! good work !!

When you save files (save states) with the bios feature enable, you have to let the bios feature enable to be able to re-read those saved files.

Of course it's the same when you save a state with the bios feature disabled. So, i think that you have already saved games (with earlier version of pspvba) without the bios feature, and now you have enabled it and you can't read your previous states ;) ...

The solution is simple : disable the bios file feature, and restart your emu :)

ArchAngel
August 4th, 2006, 02:15
I dont see what the big hype is about sound... put it this way... would you like to listen to perfect sound in slow motion (Or skipping all over, thanks to frame skip) Or would you like to play your games as if you were playing on an actual GBA with the sound muted... if it is so important, rip the audio from a rom and listen to it on your cpu while playing your PSP...

Get your priorities straight.

I think someone posted asking about why the lights in Golden sun were looking odd, with a orange shadow engulfing them.

To fix this, go to settings and turn on Sfx. It will curb your problems with golden sun. Also check out the compatibility list thread for my post on good settings for golden sun. ( I updated them with the recent releases)

Hope this gets to you and helps.

But also I'm having trouble with Yu-Gi-Oh! world championship 2004, it crashes on the menu or chosing anything from the menu.

It is over 16 MB , but that doesnt mean its impossible to get it to load. And I dont see why speed should be more logic , i think the speed is fine the way it is for a lot of games and small improvements like 3% wont really change much. Might aswell concentrate on something else if he cant get any further on speed for now.

Good work ZX. Have you tried using the system clock on the psp for sycrhonization or as the real time clock for games such as pokemon, it might be faster to use it.

Hope this gives you any ideas for cheaper synchronization or implementation of a real time clock.

Never say never mi advise is if you cant get another psp try not to keep upgrading. In case one comes out. People didn't think there would ever be a down grader for 2.6 and lower no we have it. People didn't think we where never going to play 2.71 umd games now we can. So don't loose hope.

And last I heard of ZX-81 PSPVBA, he has it on hold right now. So either he's working his arse into getting GBA emulated better on the PSP, or he's updating all his other projects (maybe a new one?). :)

Not sure how familiar you are with homebrew, but if your trying to run this emulator directly from your PSPs game menu it will not work, nor will any homebrew on your firmware.

Only 1.0 and 1.5 can run homebrew directly, on 2.6 you will need a copy of GTA: liberty city stories and the 'GTA Eloader' http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21672

This works by having you load GTA, choose a certain save file and then the PSP will boot into a menu for you to choose homebrew apps from. This is complicated but is the only way to get access to the hardware on higher firmware PSPs at the moment.

You could also look into downgrading your 2.6 PSP: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=28007

Hope that was of some use to you.

Oui je sais bien, je suis en contact avec l'auteur ... cet emulateur est tres prometteur, et Exauphase ajoutera certainement une belle interface avec des menus etc ... il faut juste etre patient :).

Hello, i very much want to be able to use pspvba with the latest version of the eloader (098, Porter)
It's pretty much understandable that 16MB roms won't load due to the lack of space but i would really like to use pspvba to play my gba roms cos when i'm at home i can play them on my comp and before i get going, i can shift the saves onto my psp =)

at first, NJ's CPS2PSP test 5 didn't work but after he edited the loader098.cfg, it was able to run. Do you think something similar can be done for pspvba?

here's the post by b8a

Hmmm, it doesn't run. I think maybe the TA-082 is what's wrong.
It displays the menu, and goes all the way to where you select the game, but freezes when trying to load the cache file. It looks like, memory that should have been allocated has not, in actuality, been allocated.
Of the 19MB that I was able to allocate, there was no problem up till around 11MB, so I think that applications that are smaller than that should have no problems.
Everything I've made has gone bad (laugh)

On the other hand, the GTA Loader version works properly. It seems as though the allocatable memory has increased by about 1MB. Hmm, I wonder if something can't be done about this.

I made some attempts to get it to work.
Please add the below text to ms0:/PSP/eloader/loader098.cfg
It's only for smaller games (as a rule of thumb, those with a zip file size under about 10MB), but I think they should run. It looks like the allocatable memory is exceedingly small.
You should also make the same change to NGEPSP and CPS1PSP as well.
Well, for the time being it looks like the applications I've built run better with the GTA loader, and not the TIFF loader. But, even better still is to downdate to FW1.5.

An example of how to modify loader098.cfg

if u're using eloader 097 wouldn't that mean u're on a 2.0 psp since u're not using the gta eloader or eloader098? since only 2.0 psps can use eloader097 with the tiff exlpoit while 098 is the libtiff...

It's very slow, and that's why it's a dead project ... You'd rather use gpsp (another GBA emulator) that is fortunately full speed ;)

I just downloaded system upgrade 3.03.

This is my first time trying to use this emulator.

I downloaded 1.5 because when I try 2 extract 2 it says 2 insert the last disk of the Multi-Volume set.

I found the file, but it won't run and says that it is corrupted.

Help!!!

No homebrew works with original 3.03 from SONY :(
I hope you put the 3.03 from Dark Alex ?

Nevertheless the best GBA emulator is not this one, but gPSP from Exophase ...

Instead of putting the EBOOT in the GAME folder, put it in a new folder called GAME150.

I apologize if i seem like a huge n00b, but does anyone know a GBA emulator that will work with the 3.03 HEN? I really don't want to have to downgrade, and Nesterj for devhook works fine. Any help for me?

Hi! I'm new here and was just wondering if anyone can give me a link to a downloadable bios file that works with gpsp. I've looked around and the only one I found had the wrong file extension. Help would be much appreciated.

First this homebrew (as all homebrew) works only with a firmware <= 1.5 or a custom firmware (OE).

Then, i suggest you to use gpsp, that is much better than this one.

But where can that file be found to make gpsp work?

Google, download, check if its the right one with a hex editor like explained in the readme.
If the one you found is not the right one, repeat the process till you come accross the right one.

The most common one you will find is not the correct one, and some games like yoshi's island wont run with it.

Be persistent/patient and you will find it, took me about 15-20 mins, I had never used a hex editor before but its easy to check the bios. Just follow the readme.
