Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. have announced plans to release two games based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The first of them, subtitled Part 1, is due out this autumn for DS, PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 and adopts a third-person shooter approach.

That's thanks to a new HD engine developed for the game by EA's Bright Light studio in Guildford and a new action and combat focus to match the book.

Details on the second game haven't been released, but we're going for "Part 2".

In Part 1, Harry and friends are on the run from Voldemort and the resurgent Death Eaters, on a quest to locate the former's Horcruxes and sort him out once and for all.

This, it seems, will involve smashing Death Eaters, Snatchers, "ferocious creatures from the previous films" (or books, if you like) and new enemies using spells.

"The final Harry Potter adventure has given us the opportunity to make a darker and more action-orientated game than we have before," said Bright Light's head of production Jonathan Bunney.

"Ultra kill!" Whoops, I mean "10 points to Griffyndor!"
"We have built new technology specifically to allow us to prove that magic is a truly potent force and, in this game, players will need to use all their skills if they want to survive."
