3D technology without the need for glasses could be here within five years, Taiwanese firm Industrial Technology Research Institute has claimed, reports TechRadar.
The field is one of the hottest properties in consumer electronics today, with many of the big tech firms pouring huge amounts of marketing and R&D cash at it. However removing specialised glasses would represent a significant shift in approach.
The firm has utilised parallax barrier technology on a 42-inch television which it says could be sold by 2015. There are currently problems dogging the format, mainly involving the seemingly narrow effective area – meaning moving slightly away from dead-centre will significantly disrupt the 3D capability.
3D tech was one of the key fighting grounds at this year's Gadget Show.
