View Full Version : CAPCOM CPS2 Emulator for PSP (test ver.)

August 4th, 2006, 18:23
As the title says, NJ (http://neocdz.hp.infoseek.co.jp/psp/cps2.html) has released a test version of his CPS2 emulator and it's pretty impressive.

As per the NeoGeo emu, you have to run these roms through the convertor tool to work otherwise the allocation memory error will pop up.

Games tested:

Alien Vs Predator 55-60fps
Battle Circuit 50-60fps
Dungeons & Dragons Tower of Doom 60fps
Eco Fighters 60fps
Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dream 40-60fps (speeds up after a while)
X-men: Children of the Atom 30-40fps

how do I load the roms? please help.

SteveV2
August 4th, 2006, 23:37
Download from NJs site.

If you are on 1.5 put those files in the PSP/GAME folder.

Boot the psp up and load the emulator.

Now turn it off, goto the PSP/GAME and the cps2emu folder and you will se a bunch of other folders.

Put your roms in the 'rom' folder.

Using the converter tool supplied with the emu load the roms you have into it, they will output to the cache folder.

Now take those files and put them in the cache folder on you psp PSP/GAME/cps2

Load rom,

enjoy :)

how do I load the roms? please help.

1. Install the CPS2psp test
2. Create these folders; roms & cache (or run the CPS2psp test program and it will create those+ folders for you).
3. Run the included converter tool on the roms you wish to play.
4. Copy your roms in the "roms" folder
5. Copy your sprite cached files into the "cache" folder.

Kinda sumed up. Mad props to "dagger89" for teaching me this.

some results for games I've tried

settings:

sprites cached
Zoom (16:9) full screen
sound: 22000 Khz
60fps limit: OFF (to see how far it could go)
autoframeskip: OFF (no frameskip !!!)

fps during play:

1944 - (65-80 fps)

GigaWing - (50-70 fps)

Mighty Pang - (70-80 fps)

Puzz Loop 2 - (65-70 fps)

Super Gem Fighter mini mix - (40-50 fps)

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (65-70 fps)

there usually is a slow down the first time you play a game, until the cache is load up. but it's only the first time.

Well I would never have believed it. Greats like Progear and Gigawing on the PSP, and working brilliantly well even on this first release. NJ must be the greatest programmer alive.

I keep having to make sure I'm not dreaming. I never dared to hope for so much. This is well beyond my expectations of what could ever be even possible.

WTF??
I had just seen on another site that NJ gave up on the emu because it wasn´t acceptable. OK, I sinned. Dcemu should always be first(best homebrew site there is).
So anyway I thought it was unplayable. Now I´m reading posts of games working at 50 60 fps?
Damn, I´m downloading this bad boy right now, lol
Now that I think about it, NJ always had very high standards. I mean cps1 was fully functional and he was calling it alpha, lol.
We also get a cps1 emu update today. Amazing.
NJ must be twins.
Now its time to try Dungeons and Dragons
Thanks, luv you NJ and stay cool

aww, that sucks, Marvel vs. Capcom CoSH had such a small list of characters compared to its sequel, and I doubt a Naomi emulator is coming out anytime soon...
Hopefully Capcom will port this game to the PSP in the future, because just Darkstalkers isn't the same :(

Make sure you have the US Version as well as the Euro version.

Example you need both of these to run Xmen Vs Street fighter.

xmvsf.zip (Euro 961004)
xmvsfu.zip (US 961023)

Unless you can find a complete solo xmvsfu.zip with all the correct files or disect xmvsf.zip of the files needed to complete xmvsfu.zip

Hard to explain, but once you do it, you will know what I mean.

Yeah prolly 90% of the roms you can download are complete romsets, although to save space my romset has all clones and different version roms had just the files needed to change the core rom into the other version.

Example;

My mshvsf.zip (Euro romset 22MB with 20 files)
My mshvsfu1.zip (US romset <1MB with only 2 files)

Having two complete romsets for both Euro and US versions of just that one game would take up 44MB of space, whereas the way I have them only takes up 25MB

Yea something like that, seems some versions of games do not work in MAME .9+, but other versions (mostly US Version games) do work.

Kinda the same thing is happening with this CPS2PSP Test. Seems if you cannot get a Euro or Asian version of a romset to work, use the US Version and it will prolly work. (If your US Version is stripped down like mine, you will need the "parent" romset which is usually the European version.)

Kinda hard to explain, sorry it's really confusing

After testing my fav games out, all i an say is that NJ is a GOD!

Street fighter Alpha 1, 2 work great 60fps
Super street fighter 2 and turbo work great too 60fps
Xmen children of.... works great as well (majority 60fps)

I found that putting the 60fps limit to no makes everything better (as pointed out already)

Even marvel vs capcom works suprisingly well though it def chugs at times - it's still very playable since it just slows down when a ton of new stuff is on the screen.

thanks so much!!!! and this is a test version???!!!!

EDIT - puzzle fighter is great too (60fps)

Wow I can't wait to see what NJ has in store for us next because this emulator is definently awsome! =O when I downloaded this I was going to expect a lowsy running slow emulator with crap sound, king of like the N64 emulator in its current stages, and then I try it out and every rom I have tried runs almost full speed and the sound quality is great, excpet on some games like Street Fighter Alpha 3 were the sound is a little buggy but still bareley noticable. And then when I thought it couldn't get much better, "BOOM!" Test V2 comes out.

One thing I was dissapointed on though was how the Marvel vs. Capcom and many other fighting games were kind of choppy in game play, I was determined to fix this so after playing around witht he settings (yes I know this was mentioined above) turned off the 60 fps limiter and then the emulator ran extremeley smoothe, I was honestly very very impressed. I bet if you do the same thing with his NEO GEO emulator it will also run extremeley well.

I can't wait to see what versions or new emulators NJ has in store next. If he worked, on ZINC, or PSX that would the the bomb! Or maybe even NEO GEO pocket, that would be kool to. Or perhaps MAME well I guess we will all have to see.

I hope the Sega CD, Saturn, and 32x are made, I never really got to play those systems, only had the base Genesis for a while. I also hope to see the a homebrew PSX emulator at fully speed, mayb we can crack down or gather ideas from Sony's. And I'm still hoping for a Dreamcast emulator, even though it won't happen anytime soon :(

NJ you must be sick hearing this but your the best!!! I thought u said it was near impossible to emulate cps2!!! I would have been happy with cps2 emulation with no sound but now i have portable CPS2 Arcade machines... the bad thing is you are killing my memory sticks!!!

Thanks again dude

Has anyone gotten hyper SF2 aniv edition to work?

QueadlunnRau

After extensive testing last night ... I have come up with some pretty damn good universal settings for most fighting games. These settings seem to give me good overall fps and playability for all the games I tested.

Raster Effects: Off
Stretch Screen: Your preferrence
Video sync: Off
Auto Frameskip: Off!
Frameskip: 0~1 (setting it anything higher then 1 gives lower fps and a glitch game play trust me.)
Show FPS: On
60fps limit: Off (Unless the game runs too fast aka Aliens Vs Predator can run at crazy high FPS damn good emulator lol).

Enable Sound: Yes (Setting to "No" on some games will increase around 5~10 fps.)
Sample Rate: 11025Hz (I did a blind test to hear the difference from 22050Hz and 11025Hz and could not tell ... maybe I am deaf though O.o)
PSP Clock: 333MHz (Can lower this for side scrolling beat em up's like AVP or WOF).

I have tested about 20 of the games on my list, all seem to run great at these settings although for the beat em ups make sure to set 60fps limit on, unless you like playing in turbo mode.

Some Alien Vs Predator cutscenes can go to fast if you hold one of the buttons (all I know is that this happens on "cutscenes" don't know about the rest)

plus NAOMI is more powerful than a sega dreamcast. I dont think a system can emulate an even greater system.

get the small us version, run it through the converter that came with the emulator, and put the cache in the cache folder. Put both the us and euro versions in the rom folder. It should work now.

Load rom,

enjoy :)

i did everything, made cache files and all but no roms folder was created
