View Full Version : GBA Port

GPF

well I have ported a GBA emulator to the Dreamcast(based on Visual Boy Advance). I will hopefully be releasing it soon. I just have to get some stuff cleaned up and hopefully get sound working, and speed playable and figuring out the license GPL etc.

I have played a couple of Public domain roms and 1 commercial rom (Super Mario World ~ 4meg).

I tried an 8 meg rom but it ran out of memory, don't know if that is fixable yet.

I don't have anyway to take one, I don't know where my digital camera is. I could send you the binary of what I got so far and you could take some if you wanted.

TroyIf you've got a serial cable or a BBA, you can add vid_screen_shot() to your program to enable you take a screenshot.

This is insane, they say it couldn't be done, I thought they were telling the truth but
they were wrong dead wrong, here fellow DC gamers, the ultimate of emulation we DC gamers
never thought possible, feature the GBA! now I am truly convinced that if the skills of
coders are unbelieveable any type of emulation is possible on DC (except amiga,lol:} }
I never thought it would happen, you made most DC dreamers dream come true. GPF! Keep up the
good work man, from the screen Ian took, really impressive bro, don't work to hard and keep
up the outstanding look of this GBA emulation that we never thought possible.

You and Cless are the most confused people I've ever seen. Do you guys listen? No one said it was impossible, anything is possible.

Good stuff, Troy. I've always been a big proponent of GBA emulation on the DC but I'm not going to knock it, either. I look forward to downloading this emu & the tons of homebrew stuff available for it. This will be good news for the GBA scene, also. Someone might want to drop a bug in there ear or link this thread to a topic on the HAM site ;) Tubooboo will be impressed.

hows your neopocket emu quzar?

any news, screens updates

quzar
May 12th, 2004, 23:56
ah, i have been updated news on Dcemulation but i forgot about here :P

i have gotten it to compile so far, but not to run properly. it shows up a white square that is the right size, and it lets me go double size too but so far the only thing i cant do is load a rom. some glitch in my setup i think... as soon as i can get rom loading (which is like 4 lines of code!) then it will most likely work. until then ...

also zipped roms, would zipped roms cause a loss of performance.

EDIT: Nevermind. *I'm going to have to get something resolved with 1and1. *Instead of upgrading my current package and evidently ordered a new package. *Hopefully this can be resolved in a couple of days.

None yet, I fell asleep last night :) and have been to busy at work today to look at anything.

I will need to design a website for the GBA emulator release, and my website could definetly use a facelift though, so if anyone could help out, I want to incorporate what I have now with new html etc.

just a quick update.

I finally got a rom directory listing and selection working, now my alpha testers(IAN and wragster) won't have to burn one homebrew game at a time to test them out.

From the top ten here are the pics so-far

Unofficial Blues Brothers GBA Remake, The v.0.03 (PD)
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/710/blues.jpg

Pretty neat remake use to remember playing this on the c64
it was pretty good on that this has some improvements and
is fun to play.

Speed was very slow on it

Dangerous Xmas (Fixed Version) by Spoutnick Team
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/6594/danger1.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/7897/danger.jpg

Here's a good game has the classic feel and in a christmas mode.
I did not see the controls being all the Changed or better as posted in
the thread it played well just like Rick does. Very good looking and nice
effects

Speed was a touch faster then the blues brothers not playable

M-Type-Marsu-Version05b
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2964/mtype1.jpg
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4209/mtype2.jpg

Ive posted about this one it's a good rtype clones uses grafix from
pulstar i would never have spoted that if i dont use that game as a test on neogeo cd project. Still very good and nice clone ive played it a bit now.
Waves of fighters can be a little the same after a while.

Speed was better then the other to games Still not playable at this stage.

The Tragical Historie of Rodion and Rosalind by Bertil Hoerberg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1280/tragic1.jpg
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/382/tragic2.jpg

THis game is a real winner to me very nice Rpg type action game looked very close to retail game. Only a few problems it's more a demo would be nice to see a finshed version one day

here's some info from the author

Features:
A great long epic quest spanning over five minutes of gameplay!
A revolutionary action filled battle system!
Not very beautious graphics in full 2D!
Two different endings!

Sound works i can almost make out the tune. Speed was very slow.

I think the speed for most is between 4 to 10 fps at a guess Sound on or off makes no change to the speed.

Here's part of my report so far. On the homebrew top ten metafox told me about

VampiricS
May 14th, 2004, 09:17
Well that's nice, you should try ORN, a metroid remake, but instead of playing with Samus Aran, you are some kind of alien mercenary...really nice too ;)
