NJ (http://neocdz.hp.infoseek.co.jp/psp/cps2.html)has yet again released a new version of his Capcom CPS2 arcade emulator for the PSP, this version fixes Qsound, heres the translation:

Because inscription when starting has become test 3, the file was replaced. (23: 20)
Next, it corrected also the volume which is made too much small with the part game.

Cause: Low when it is sample rate, when the musical interval changes at the interval which is detailed than as many as 1 samples ([bibura] - [to],
Because), change of the musical interval is skipped occurrence with such as pitch bending. It is simple.
Because the amount processing where the sound of 11KHz and 22KHz has become accurate increases, when you compare to test3, somewhat
It is heavy, is, saying, that (it is heavy, the minute 々 barrel rubbing, it does but). Playing back gently with 44KHz, whether there is no great difference
It does and the [re] increase is. Furthermore, restart it is not with try to be able to modify sample rate.

Crappy translation as always but Download and Give Feedback Via Comments

as you say ..It is getting better and better..

1. Q: Do you have any plans to work on MAME?
A: Absolutely not. If I were to spend time working on MAME I would end up with something not much different than what I already have now. Furthermore, it's because each machine is emulated seperately that I am able to optimize the code and get the kind of speed you see.

2. Q: Do you plan to create any consumer console emulators, or work on a 3D emulator.
A: I'm only interested in 2D games circa 1980 - 1990. There are already tons of consumer console emulators. I don't think there is any need for anymore, and out of those I'm only interested in the NeoGeo CD.

3. Q: Can you put all the emulators together into one.
A: Please think about what you are asking. Putting all of the emulators together would require even more memory use, and most of the emulators are already just scraping by on memory, especially CPS1.

4. Q: Do you have any plans to implement AdHoc.
A: No. I only have 1 PSP so I can't test it. I also have no interest in AdHoc. My interests are in trying to get old games to move well via emulation, not in actually playing them. Once I get them moving quickly I lose interest in the project. I just like tackling problems by analyzing how to increase speed like, "Perhaps if I do this it will move quicker.", etc.

I'd also like to add that I'm pretty satistfied with the state of the CPS2 emulator. Some games are just missing the 60fps mark, and I don't think they'll get any better, but I didn't even think they would move in the first place. I reached my goal when I got D&D and AVP to move at 60fps. I think those people who want to play MVC at full speed on their PSP are missing the point.

PS.
vettacosxx

If you want to play different regions of a rom you have to have the Parent rom = the large one, and create a cache for it. Then put the parent rom and the daughter rom in the same roms folder. From the emu rom select screen simply select the daughter rom and it should work.

i.e. MVC Parent Rom = 19mb
MVC Japanese Daughter Rom = 312Kb
(I just made those sizes up, but you get the point)

I don't mind the Vs. games having lag, that's understandable. There's too much going on at once since it's 2-on-2. At least we have all of the other kick ass fighting games to fall back on.

Ok this is what i did to get this game to work. I put the copy marvel vs streetfighter (US 970827) in the roms file and the marvel vs streetfighter (US 970625) And before that i used the cache on the smaller version 970625. The bigger version is actually the parent rom and doesnt work but the two on the roms folder using the smaller version works great.

All the games have to be ripe in a way that will make the sprites work better and aloud the region gpx to be identified. So when a rom is 22mb after all this it will be like 30mb but very well worth it. And you need to do it with all roms:D

when you get the exe screen it will let you click on it then it will do its magic creating the cache file in the cache folder it brings. Then you will put the rom on the rom folder and the cache file on the cache folder of the emu. PS if there isnt one the emu will created or you can make the folders your self.

1) Has anyone got the classic colors of fighters in super street fighter 2 turbo (i.e. ken's red costume) - you have to input a code but it doesn't work. Same thing with unlocking akuma

see here for codes

2) has anyone get hyper SF2 turbo anniv edition to work or SSF2 team battle?

I go away for the weekend, get back, and then what do I find on this site? ...only that NJ has fookin cracked CPS2! :)

I had a little play with this last night and I was very, very impressed! AVP and D&D TOD play brilliantly, so I’m very happy at the mo.

I couldn’t get Super Streetfighter 2 to work, but I guess I’ll have to muck around with the various rom sets (and the parent versions) to do this??

Once again, I'm posting far too late for this to make much of a difference to anyone (!_!), but for anyone interested, and for posterity, here's a translation of the changes of NJ's CPS2 page:

CPS2PSP test ver.4 (Q Sound bug fix) Download
*Since the launch time screen showed the version as test 3, I swapped out the files. (23:20)

I went ahead and fixed a problem where the sound level in some games was too quiet.
Cause: It's because when there's a change in the musical interval during a space shorter than 1 sample with a low sample rate (generated by vibrate, pitch bend, etc..) the change in the musical interval is skipped. It's so simple.
The ammount of processing has increased reflecting the more accurate 11KHz and 22 KHz sound, so compared with test3, this version is slightly slower (well really just ever so slightly slower). Frankly, even with sound output at 44KHz, I doubt there'd be much of a difference. Additionally, I've made it so that the sample rate can be changed without restarting the program.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miscelaneous
Since it looks like theres a lot of people visiting this page, some things should be said. Once it's been said, it'll just sound like I'm complaining though (ha ha).
I wonder if I couldn't get this translated and posted on overseas forums (ha ha)

Q.Do you have any plans to make MAME?
A.Absolutely none. Even if I were to make these as MAME, I wouldn't be able to create anything very different from what I've made to date. I'm only able to reach faster speeds by optomizing each system seperately.

Q.Do you have any plans to make emulators for any consumer machines?
Also, do you have any plans to make any emulators for 3D games?
A.I'm only interested in 2D games from 1980 to the first half of the 1990's. Since there's already various consumer machine emulators, I think thats probably good enough. Additionally, I'm only interested in NEOGEO CD.

Q.Can we get you to merge all of your emulators to date into one single package?
A.Conversely, please think about why they've been seperated. By merging them, each would loose that much available memory. Under the best conditions, memory is lacking for all of them (even CPS1 is pretty close to the edge), and since features would be lost, the emulators won't be merged togeather.

Q.Won't you implement AdHoc communication?
A.I will not be implementing it. Since I only have one PSP I can't test it. I have absolutely no interest in AdHoc communication and since my interest is in getting old games to work via emulation, I have no interest in playing them. Accordingly, as a rule of thumb, once they operate to a certain degree of satisfaction ( =when I've lost interest), I'm done with them. For me, the fun part is in thinking about things like "wouldn't this run this much faster if I changed this portion?"

While I'm at it, I'm just about satisfied with CPS2. I am still wondering if a few of the games that are just barely under 60fps couldn't reach a full 60fps however. I didn't even think they would run from the beginning, and I tentatively reached my goal at the point that D&D and AVSP started to run at 60fps. On the contrary, I really don't understand the thinking of people who want to run MVC, etc... at full screen on the PSP.
Oninotsume already did a good job of summarizing the Q&A section, but since NJ requested that it be translated, I went ahead and covered it once more. I doubt many people will pick up the differences, but there were a few points that his summary glossed over which I just couldn't leave alone (!_!)

Nice to know that NJ is a fellow 2D afficianado! Thanks to his hard work, I believe we can now play the true cream of the crop of the 2D era. As much as I always wanted it, I never dreamed of a day when that would be possible on a hand held console. Makes me want to cry with joy!!!

I'm still having problems though getting Super SF2 turbo to work? I've tried every version of SSF2 Turbo and each one fails to be read by the convertor. :(

B8a, thank you so much for translating this. Thanks!

I've read a bunch of posts about people having problems with Super Street Fighter II. Well, it looks there is a bug involved and that NJ knows about it, however, the bad news is that since he's redoing the cache system, he won't be releasing an immediate fix. He had this to say on his site:

Bug Report
I'm posting this since there is a bug with ssf2 clone sets in test 3 and later (probably since I swapped out the file with test 4?)

Please make a seperate cache file for each of the games below (for example, make ssf2xj_cache.zip for ssf2xj). Due to a bug in the program, portions that were originally read from ssf2t_cache.zip are regularly being read from ssf2_cache.zip. (there's insufficient data and so games can't be displayed properly)
ssf2t Super Street Fighter II Turbo (World 940223)
ssf2ta Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Asia 940223)
ssf2tu Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940323)
ssf2tur1 Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940223)
ssf2xj Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge (Japan 940223)

Additionally, there haven't been problems with the games below with cache file constructed from ssf2.
(However, these three games are NOT WORKING and can't be launched)
ssf2tb Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (World 931119)
ssf2tbr1 Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (World 930911)
ssf2tbj Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (Japan 930911)

I wanted to swap out the file, I'm currently changing the cache system (there won't be any compatibility with existing files starting from the next version) and can't update it.

Version 2.00 users will need to use the actual GTA eloader expoit to make this work - I did at least.

There's more memory for the PSP through the GTA version, the emu will crash through the normal TIFF loader when its loading the cache file.

All games work it would seem (other then some of the street fighter series). Most are perfect 60 fps. AvP, 1944 series, Armoured warriors, D&D games etc.

The only laggy games are or course the Marvel V Capcom and the X men V street fighter.

Street Fighter Alpha 2 I found, is the best working version, though i didn't try alpha 3 (file size looked too big to work fully)

for the guy with frameskip 8 - that's insane. Too choppy. I got SFA3 to work 50 - 60fps with fs of 0. no auto, no rasta, 60 limit off (some boards on b/c it's too fast)

now can someone tell me how to get the original colors for the fighters in SSF2T????? I NEED KEN IN RED DAMMIT!
hah

August 9th, 2006, 01:18
select ken with light punch and then shake controls from left to right and vice versa while tapping light punch.

I recommend using the analog to do this since i failed many times with the D-pad.

Now if i only could have Akuma...

delt31
August 9th, 2006, 01:32
thanks going to try

EDIT - Tried and no dice - you sure this works?

as for akuma

Highlight Ryu and hold for 3 seconds then,
Highlight T.Hawk and hold for 3 seconds then,
Highlight Guile and hold for 3 seconds then,
Highlight Cammy and hold for 3 seconds Finally
Highlight Ryu again and hold for 3 seconds then
Press all 3 punches and Start at the same time at the end of you counting.

hasn't worked for me though

Sorry guys,

I know this may be the wrong place to ask this question, and I have already asked this once in the emulation section, but I always find that more people read this section then that one. Also, people who are playing the CPS2 emu are most likely playing the NeoGeo emu. So I figure it is worth a shot. Here is my problem:

I seem to be having a problem with metal slug 4 (mslug4.zip) for NJ's NeoGeo Emulator (NGEPSP 0.2.2).

Whenever I run the game, it loads fine. I am able to select my character and play. However, in the first level of the game, when you get in the motorcylce, the game crashes for me.

To be more detailed, one of the following 2 things happen:

1) The game emulation freezes, however, I could still exit out of the emulator. In addition, I could still access the menu. However, the if I come back to the game it's stuck

2) The graphics go away and the screen goes green. Same as #1, I could still exit the emulator and I can still access the menu (start+select).

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I am using the neogeo.zip file that have the following contents:

000-lo.lo
asia-s3.rom
sfix.sfx
sm1.sm1
sp-e.sp1
sp-j2.rom
sp-s.sp1
sp-s2.sp1
sp1.jipan.1024
usa_2slt.bin
vs-bios.rom

I have also tried the bios with these files:

000-lo.lo
asia-s3.rom
sfix.sfx
sm1.sm1
sp-e.sp1
sp-j2.rom
sp-s.sp1
sp-s2.sp1
usa_2slt.bin
vs-bios.rom

Neither seem to work, so I am thinking it is some other type of issue. I don't think it is the dump as the romcenter program says it is fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Puzz Loop looks quite good. Bit like Ballistic on the PSX.

I've tried to load my rom here into the converter but no joy. Have searched and DLed another, tried that with no joy :(

Any ideas?

The biggest rom is always the parent and you are going to use the cache on the smaller US version that should work

oninotsume
August 10th, 2006, 07:40
Acidburn is that true? I've never used the cache function on the small daughter rom, only on the parent one and it always works. Maybe it works either way.

Drock 82, the important thing is that you cache the rom, and put both the parent and daughter roms in the roms folder. You also have to make sure that at least one of the daughter or the parent rom itself is decrypted. You can tell if a rom is not decrypted because it will be displayed in gray text. However, a encrypted parent rom can be cached and loaded via a decrypted daughter rom.

ACID

oninotsume yes its true i think NJ made it to work is it uses the parent rom in some way dont get me wrong it doesnt make a cache of 2mb its still big like the parent roms cache i think it uses the parent in some way. But i have done it personaly and it works.

I'd say were pretty f'n lucky to have a CPS1&2 emu for PSP. Imagine if NJ stopped after CPS1...

I don't mind the Vs. games having lag, that's understandable. There's too much going on at once since it's 2-on-2. At least we have all of the other kick ass fighting games to fall back on.

NJ = best...coder...ever
