New from SuccessHK (http://www.superufo.com/?aff_id=24)

http://www.success-hk.com/item_photo/item/4GB-L.jpg

Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo is half the size of a standard-size Memory Stick PRO media and it offers the same technologies including high speed data transfer, built-in MagicGate, and high capacities. The Memory Stick PRO Duo is the ideal solution for the most portable devices such as pocket-size digital cameras and with the use of Adaptor, it can be used in all PRO-compatible devices.

The Price for Sonys Mem Stick is USD 174.00

I just got my 4GB Sandisk Ultra II from Outpost.com, it's back ordered now, but they have the best price (that I could find) for both Sony and Sandisk's 4gb.

I tested loading CPS2 Roms and NeoGeo Roms with Cache Sprites with both my Sony 1GB and my new 4GB Sandisk Ultra II (60x speed) and did notice a huge difference. The Sony takes 3-5 whole more seconds to load large games such as KOF2002 and Marvell Vs Capcom.

Here is a direct link to those memory cards.

Sony is $129.00 US
Sandisk is $149.00 US

No they are BOTH 4gb, Sony is cheaper because the Sandisk's 4gb Ultra II is faster (60x speed).

Get the Sony if you want a cheaper price, get the Sandisk if you are not a turtle.

I just got my 4GB Sandisk Ultra II from Outpost.com

That is awesome. I have a 2GB Ultra II but desperately need the 4GB. I will keep an eye out for a good deal on one. The SanDisk Ultra II's are WAY better than the Sony sticks.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I was about to get a regular Sandisk 4GB stick from Amazon. I'd forgotten there was an Ultra II. I'll wait for one of these other places to restock. I won't be going to eBay for this one, though my last purchase (a 2GB Sony) was just fine.

i was beaten by laser tag to bring this info to the board [props]. I'm hoping to recieve mine tonight. i am ready to load it up. I actually managed to get mine for 104.99 plus 5 for shipping so it totaled at $110. [[:

on thing i noticed between the standard 4 gig and ultra II card is on new egg, they list the transfer speeds in a way it seems the standard card is faster than the ultra II. can enyone else make sense of this?

again. I think this is the cheapest price there is, and they can't keep them in stock because of it. [:

There is an INTERNAL battery with double life? I have the SONY brand "Stamina" Battery that is 20% more efficient and its great.

Also about cheap memory sticks, I guess there are a LOT of bogus generic rip offs out there. eBay being one of the places. So I will try to look for BRAND NEW sticks in authentic retail packaging.

Has anybody tested, whether the "Ultra 2" memory cards from Sandisk improve the lag for sprite-cached games of NJs emulators (CPS2 / NeoGeo). I get always a bit of lag, when the memory stick is accessed (which is normal). I would go for a "Ultra 2" if the lag improves notificable.

It really saddens me to see this posted as news. First off the (dare i say) "deal" is a total rip off. The only reason it was posted is for the affiliate link?

Out of pure honesty, save yourself the trouble. NO ONE should pay almost 2x as much to get something imported when they can get it locally. I am almost speachless (but not quite).

EDIT: As warned earlier watch out for fake sticks on eBay. They are no joke and sadly a common occurance.

Like jert said can somone make sense of the normal 4GB being faster than the Ultra II one I checked both details and it says Ultra works at 9mb/s and normal one works at 16mb/s correct me if im wrong.

EDIT: Can someone also tell me the exact amount of mb available for storage.

Right now I don't know of any double life INTERNAL battery (it was a wish), so I'll just stick to my regular battery.
I've seen those fakes on ebay (something like 10 fakes for every original) so I was going to buy from a local shop (too bad It'll cost me more).

OK, I've noticed a lot of people are confused about speeds.
I found it confusing reading newegg's speeds too.
The reason why it's so damn confusing is because newegg use all the following on the same page:
MB/S, MB/sec, Mbp, Mbps, ...

MB/S or MB/sec = "MegaBytes per Second"
Mbps (and for some reason Mbp) = "MegaBits per Second"

8 Mbps = 1 MB/s

Speed is also sometime shown as say 60X, 66X, 120X, etc...
Looking at MS Speeds listed on websites, it seems that:
1X = 1.2 Mbps or 0.15 MB/s

Below are the speeds I found from websites selling MS sticks.
Some of this may be wrong but I will show it anyway.

Sony: Standard
Read&Write = 15 Mbps / 1.875 MB/s

Sony: High Speed
Read&Write = 80 Mbps / 10 MB/s

Sandisk: Standard
Read&Write = 15 Mbps / 1.875 MB/s

Sandisk: Ultra II
Read = 66X / 80 Mbps / 10 MB/s
Write = 60X / 72 Mbps / 9 MB/s

Sandisk: Extreme III
Read&Write = 120X / 144 Mbps / 18 MB/s

Interesting that Sandisk: Ultra II and Sony: High Speed say the same. :p

While I'm sure a big part of the news post is because of the affiliation, "imported", when posting here, is a relative term.

Someone buying from Newegg for instance if they live in the UK, might cost them quite a bit more to get it.

Always best to post alternatives since the site is used by people world wide. Which also is a nice point that posters like us are given the chance to offer those alternate places of purchase. A lot of websites have no forums or comments section.

And for the record, I don't buy anything from EBay anymore. I personally can't stand the "bidding wars" that tend to happen. All to save a few bucks? I'd rather pay just a bit more an feel more assured of my purchase then diving through hoops later to work out a return. Or worse yet those stories you do hear of fake items or just plain out total BS sales where the seller disappears form the planet. Scary stuff that I'm not wasting my hard earned money on.

Yeah, I found the SanDisk site a bit confusing.
I was just looking on the Lexar site to see their MS speeds and found out something useful:

Speed Rating:
Lexar defines "X" within its speed-rating system as equivalent to a minimum write speed capability of 150 kilobytes per second. Therefore, 40X would be equivalent to 6MB/s write speed, 60X would be 9MB/s write speed, 80X would be 12MB/s write speed and 133X would be 20MB/s write speed.
So this clears up what I sugested about 1X being 1.2 Mbps (0.15 MB/s) - which is the same as 150 kilobytes per second. :)

So...
8 Mbps = 1 MB/s
1X = 1.2 Mbps = 0.15 MB/s

Also, from Lexar's own website:

Lexar: Platinum = 40X
... 40X = 48 Mbps = 6 MB/s

Lexar: Gaming = "Unrated" ...what does that mean?

The Gaming version says in it's description that it is for the PSP.
The Platinum version just says it features "Sony-Highspeed", but I would think it should still work in a PSP, but I don't know...

Hope all this helps and didn't just make things more confusing :p

is the sandisk extreame out with the 4gb?
Nope. Currently, the largest Extreme III available is 2 GB.
I plan on getting an über 4 GB version of Sandisk Extreme III MS Pro Duo as soon as it is released! :p

But then there is also the 8, 16 and 32 GB MS Pro Duo that Sony have previously said that they were planning to release, and be useable by the PSP.
From what I remember, the 8 GB stick should be coming within the next few months. ;)

More information! :D

First 8GB is comming in 2006 somewhen according to MemoryStick.com...
www.memorystick.com/en/events/ces2006/exhibit.html (http://www.memorystick.com/en/events/ces2006/exhibit.html)

I can't find the site where sony mentioned about larger sizes though.

Lexar: Platinum (both Platinum I & II)
Read&Write = 40X (48 Mbps or 6 MB/s)

Lexar: Gaming
- Lexar's website says "sustained write speed of 30X or 4.5 MB per second" (= 36 Mbps)
- Many other websites advertise: "Speed Rating = 40X" (48 Mbps or 6 MB/s)
- Some other websites advertise: "Speed = 30X"
- One of the most confusing pages is on Amazon which even has a picture of the box with 40X written on it - here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000ARUY72/026-1629033-7870836?v=glance&n=300703)
I believe it's more likely to be 40X, but somehow it also has a "sustained write" speed of 30X aswell... :p

Sooo many websites guilty of false advertising!!! hundreds even!! :D
