This is a little preview of Loco Roco from my nine-year-old. She tried out the first level of the game.

By Tanya Takahashi

In Loco Roco, you are a planet located in a far away galaxy. On you live little creatures called Loco Roco. One day, while you were taking a nap, disaster struck! Creatures from outer space came and started eating the Loco Roco! Help them get away by rolling left and right to avoid Mojas (creatures from outer space) and collect the fruits to grow. It's 2D graphics and the guy you are trying to help is a hairy little yellow ball with antennae. You control it with the left and right buttons, which tilt the game world one way or another. You jump by holding both at the same time. This game is for younger kids such as five- or six-year-olds. Older kids might not like it. The music is for two- or three-year-olds. It gets annoying with the baby singing. If you beat the level, you get a prize. I haven't beaten the whole level yet so I don't know what the prize is. I'd give this game a one out of four star rating.

Why do we care what a 9 year old thinks?

Video_freak
August 15th, 2006, 18:05
Because it's a good review for that age (it's better than what I would have said :o)

hah lol i was thinking i would be the only one to say this but if you actually play roco loco its a really happy game which is why everybody to act cool denys liking it untill they playing it when nobody around..... just admit it lol)
and you dont get many of games like this which arnt paronisngly kiddy....this is a game for people who arnt bitchy and judgmentle who give new ideas a try... which i reckon the psp needs.....inovative games rather than remakes/updates of existing games which to be homest are starting to loose there attraction to me well moan if ya want and say we really need all the games out right now i dont care im getting bored of games like tekken now if ya play one you basically played them all

I like Loco Roco but I wouldn't pay to play it. And she is right, the singing is extremely weird.

I loved playing the demo of Loco Roco! :D It's kinda weird sometimes but I mean it is really unique and fun. Nice review but if she couldn' beat level one how could a five or six year old get it? :p Little kids make me laugh sometimes. This game I guess gets better once you get older and realize its a really complicated (and sometimes frustrating) puzzle game. :D

It's good to see more girls playing games and at that age games are pure fun. not like now when i play a psp or DS and smash it to bit due to GBR. nice job kid!

It's weird because many girls, like my sister, play when they are young (6-10 years old), and then stop when they get into their teens...

hehe... tis a cute review.

i dont think PSPs are for kids, let alone LocoRoco being specifically for them!

i like the game, but more amusing is watching my brother's fiance getting addicted to it (she's 25 like me)

well i was in japam at the time, and since there was a huge hype about it, so i got it along with 5 or 6 other games(i cant remember too good). i can understad most of the japanese sometimes i have to use a dictionary. i've got to admit at first when you see the game and play it, you start thinking "wow, this is gonna get really boring, really fast". but after the first 5 or so hours it still is fun. i'd have to compare this game with duck hunt for nes. it gave me kinda the same feel.

hmmn well lookin at this i rekon quite a few 16-20 year olds like it and even a few older people me bein 17 myself lol........does this mean everybody who jus saw a pic and due to genralised speculation labled it a kids game is calling us kids:confused:

hardly age 3-4 age group as i saw in that review....just that people jump to this idea when something is bright and cheerful...ohhh well i reckon its just japaneese style and considering rpgs do so good world wide and the majority of them are from japan.....jus giv it a chance ...i.e play the first world before you go ah its shit:D because after all the controls require getting used too as they know so the first levels are pretty straight forward

August 15th, 2006, 21:36
well, its intresting that a 9 year old says this is a kids game, whereas loads of teens say the ds has all the kids games lol
myself, i have played the demo - completed 100%
and i must say i hated it, but its a game that you find yourself picking up and playing, even if you dont like it

I'm 31 and I think Loco Roco is pretty cool.

But if you were a little kid it would look stupid I think, Little Kids Haven't developed the kind of Gaming dedication that older gamers posess... Like getting 100% completion on GTA isnt a priority for a 9 year old... Beating it is satisfaction enough. and its not like games DON'T give unlimited lives and continues anymore... Beating the game is somewhat of a guarantee if you put the time in these days

Older gamers have this drive to FULLY complete the game, once they see how challenging that feat is, it becomes apparant that there are different levels of appreciation for every game.

and LOTS of games are like this, giving a different experience for different levels of gamer, Tekken is a prime example. SUPER knowlegable players can enjoy one level of gameplay, and the button mashing novices can enjoy a lower one, which is just as fun.

I would have thought there would have been references to the blatantly villified African/Jamacian heritage of the Mojos in a 9 year old review

This is my favourite game (i've played over 35 games so far and have only gotten addicted to playing this and ridge racer :P)
Both me (18) and my sister (20) loved it...its just so cute!!! :D

great review btw, i can see why it would seem less appealing to kids but i didnt realise there would be so many people around my age who liked it.

so i rekon it should be re labled as a proper game cus its unfairly been dubbed as a baby game.......which is evident by the fact they aparently feel its fit to get a kid to review it. jus cut it some slack ppl who obsesed with skitting it

How can a nine-year old kid who can even beat a level said this is a game for toodlers ?? Girls.. they're starting to be ignorant at that age to.. forever..

PSP and kids don't match. PSP was pictured on a T3 cover magazine held by a sexy woman in bikini. Not 9 years old.

highly true

i gave this game to a 12year old to keep him busy for a few minutes,, and he couldnt play the game at all,, (and he calls himself a gamer),,
i guess it was too confusing for him, or something :)

I'm not surprised that a nine year old would call this game a kiddie game.

Young children are always trying to act more "mature" than their peers. Age is the first, and most potent method of establishing one's superiority over someone else.

That's why young kids are always trying to watch "R" rated movies and boast about how much GTA they've played.

If they don't openly shun the joys of childhood, they fear that they will be perceived as children by other kids their age. (Remember, as children we all felt "grown up" when we looked down on those more "childish" than ourselves).

With that in mind, I appreciate the girl's early writing skills; but I choose not to take her opinion of the game too seriously.

i doubt a kid wrote it really more probable a adults interpritation on what a child might say..........when i was 9 i wouldnt be arsed riting some shitty review especially if i had played 1 level and i hated it.........also why do people say its crap i played the demo......the demo is 1 very easy level which shows very little of what a game is like ......basicallly this is a review of a demo. like me giving a review of gangs of london based on the beta version thats flying around, not fair as it isnt complete

i was playing zombie panic (half life mod) and i was making fun of a 9 year old with a mic about him being immature and he said "I'M NOT YOUNG!, I WATCH ADULT SWIM!"

I didnt know anyone had one.

I can see that Loco Roco has a large fan base, but calling it the best game out? People think this is better than MHF? I'm not talking about how fun it is to play (pokemon is fun to play imo) but just looking at MHF is really quite fantastic how good the game looks. I think Wipeout Pure has a similarly breathtaking look to it. Loco Roco just looks like it was drawn on a paint by numbers book.
