Remember when Nintendo said it'd release its release date for the 3DS autostereoscopic portable game system on the 29th of this month? We may already have the magic number -- depending on how you interpret a few Japanese words. You see, a supposed video game accessory designer by the handle "nocchisan" recently tweeted that eleven Nintendo 3DS accessories will be released on November 11th, and asked his or her followers to kindly buy them up... while purportedly remarking that the 3DS itself will arrive at the same time. While the tweets in question can certainly be read that way, and it makes a certain amount of sense for accessories to appear at launch, our admittedly limited grasp of Japanese suggests an alternative translation: that it's the accessories themselves (and not the 3DS) that will all arrive at the same time. There's also the little matter of nocchisan himself, whose Twitter account has already disappeared -- we have nothing actually connecting him to the accessory company except a link in his tweet.

There are questions about if the 3DS is really fully developed yet. If many people are going to get headaches after a few minutes of playing, the 3DS is most likely going to be delayed until the technology is more refined, and won't affect your children's eye development. I imagine an "optional 3D mode" will be the best way for them to go, but then the novelty of the platform will be lost.

I've read a few predicted dates, this month, next month, Christmas, March 2011 or even late (this time) 2011.

There are also issues of piracy-prevention in the way of forcing online updates/activations, meaning anyone without wifi access won't be able to play their games, or may be stuck with some limited demo version that needs unlocking online. Plus, if the platform is moreso geared toward a mature audience, Nintendo seem to have neglected the fact that the 'NintendoDS Lite' was too slender and small for the average adult hands, and many people complain about cramping and unsteady grip. The Lite was designed for small hands, and the 3DS seems to follow this minimal design, which I think will be a huge mistake for them.
