SONY Actually Want Consoles To YLOD?

Due my reserach for a CFW I noticed an interesting string in a .RCO file (system_plugin.rco).


"msg_error_console_hot_pls_restart"

The system has become hot. Please turn off the system and wait a while before turning it on again.

So my thought is: Could the PS3 have prevented most of the YLOD cases, as there should be a function to shutdown the PS3 when it is too hot?

Seems so, but well - someone may want to make profit.

ehm, mine did that sometime ago. It showed the YLOD for a few seconds but just turned off itself because it was too hot.

Still works perfectly, and now I have it on a well ventilated place.

Mine is a 60GB model with a replaced laser unit, in case you were wondering

Reflow the board, increase the fan speed, and if it's really bad get the additional external fans. Problem solved! :P
