I read other's posts, I realised that geodata can be only used for searching specific street in stead of navigation. so I just wonder that if we can search the specific POI in Mapthis, for instance Hotel or Supermarket?

Hey guys, I'm new to this, but I really appreciate all the effort many of you have gone through for these apps.

Anyways, I downloaded the gmdl zip file from in7ane.com, but I can't find bin/debug to start the program:confused:. Do I need to download something else? I already have the microsoft .net 2 program on my computer, so I'm really confused why I can't find and run the gmdl file. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Edit: I can open the bin file if i don't unzip the downloaded gmdl file, but then when I run the gmdl tool.exe then it says that I need to unzip everything else. It seems like if I unzip it then drops or hides the .exe file, but if I don't unzip it then it won't work right.

Edt #2: Good news! I think my computer was selectively leaving out some of the files while unzipping, so I manually selected all files and now it seems to be running well. Sorry to be a nuisance

i'm having trouble adding POI's using GMDL tool. whenever i zoom in the area I want and then hit get numbers, then enter a search query, then list, I always reach the limit (~990). I opened one that reached the limit in mapthis and it shows POI's WAY outside of the area I zoomed into. I'm assuming there's something wrong with the long/lat number or deltas.

how can i fix this?

Thanks

M1ke, infinite POIs issue is fixed in http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl0.5.05a.zip where you set the maximum number to return (I will eventually get around to releasing that as a proper version, for now there is still some stuff to cleanup).

itaibe, sorry for the late reply, govmap.gov.il renders areas on request as well, so it is not tile compatible at all.

In7ane,
1- is possible to show pois on one of two your beautiful software "_util" or GMDL sez. "View"?
Now is impossible, bat with some change.... Wold be very useful.
2- In GMDL section "advanced-> custom map", is possible to make maps from pictures files with a limitation to the greatness of the map. Is possible in future can do larger maps with "base zoom=0" ?.

Regards.

If possible i should like to have an answer.

Regards.

I would like to know if geodata can be used only for US. I have tried to create one for Bucharest (Roamania country) and I couldn't. Can somebody give me a helping hand?

Nieko
March 18th, 2008, 09:23
Geodata can be made for a specific region if the data for that region is available. www.openstreetmap.org e.g. has all the data for the Netherlands, so I was able to extract Dutch geodata from there.

If you can find data for Romania anywhere (doubt it, cause it's EU), then you can use/tweak the scripts here: http://stuff.nieko.net/psp/mapthis/geodata/

You will need some programming knowledge for that though.

Btw.: please don't double post.

any changes in israel map or free map convertor ?

in7ane
March 20th, 2008, 01:30
CLAUDIOGPS, the View part of GMDL is very basic, so it would not really be possible to to make it display POI's (due to lat/lon conversion and reprojection problems). However you can export a map to a Google Earth overlay, and if it is any use I can make GMDL export _POI to a KML so you can view them there (this would probably be too much hassle for what you are trying to achieve though).

Custom map size is limited by the bitmap in .NET, so unless Microsoft decides that larger bitmaps should be supported and updates .NET it's pretty much set. You may want to take a look at rendering a map with MapCruncher ( http://research.microsoft.com/mapcruncher/ ), which can use arbitrarily large images, and then importing that into GMDL.

itaibe, no updates on maps of Israel yet

Another, 0.0505b, update of GMDL, mainly to draw a line under some bug fixes and not particularly major features (should get some free time starting in May to work on it again): http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

List of changes:

maps.yahoo.com is now partially supported (US - native 256x256 instead of 258x258, all works except for overlay)
Export to iPhone (SQLite 64x64 tile DB), pretty much done now, imports pins from KML, may add directions later; see: http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22320
Basic resume functionality, resume.txt stores: source, zoom, x, y, min_zoom, force_jpeg (create a map and read resume.txt for instructions)
POI now has a Limit: setting (100 by default) since Google seems to disregard area constraints
FreeMap.co.il is added (not really GPS compatible, but roughly in the correct map area)

Bolemichel: see the above link, it will always point at the latest semi-stable release, alternatively the very latest is the one with the highest version (and usually an a) in http://www.in7ane.com/psp/

kohht: streetdirectory.com is incompatible in its projection (there is something of a list of what is not working at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Global_Map_Download_Tool#Not_Working )

CLAUDIOGPS: to use the rendered MapCruncher tiles, from http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Global_Map_Download_Tool#Creating_a_Custom_Map_.28 MapCruncher.29
1. Select MapCruncher as the Map Source
2. Click Set next to that and select the directory containing the tiles (Layer_NewLayer by default)
3. Click Pull Tiles under the Advanced section which pops up (rather than Download The Map)

itaibe: will take a look at those.

Hi all! First of all I want to say thank you very much for this wonderful tool! It simplifies everyone's life!

My question is: I've downloaded the map of Costa Rica from google maps but it's not detailed enougth, so I found this web site that provides a "layer" to Costa Rica's maps. It uses google maps and this is the URL to get the images: "http://crmap.com/maps/"+(a.x)+"_"+(a.y)+"_"+(b)+".gif".
Is there any way to download these tiles instead of google's?

I really need this detailed map!!! Do you have any tips? Thank you very much in advance!!

The projection seems to be exactly the same as google maps so it should be relatively easy to use these tiles:

Hello all,

First, I just want to thank all the involved in this great project that is MapThis! and GMDL. It's just great tool and very powerful.

I have just some small questions:

What is the best way to create a map? I mean, I was trying to make a map of Finland, following all the directions and recommendations from this forums.

I checked the tiles that were relevant for the map, checked the 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x levels of zoom (since the 1x it's unnecessary in my opinion.) But the map it's just in a HUGE size.

I'm still figuring out how to make this Finland map without having to download Gigs of information.

The other question is about the Google semi-auto feature to retrieve the geodata of the selected area. I just don't find very clear how to do it and a bit confusing. Maybe someone can clear things out for me?

Once again, thanks a lot!

Hi i'm a newbie to Map This and In7ane tool.

I'm trying to download map of Bangkok Thailand using in7ane.

When I "Browse" to the area that i want the addresses are all displayed in English Language (which is what i want), but when i download the map it is all in Thai language.

I cannot figure out how to make it download the English version like in the Browse window.

(In the preview window it also shows the Thai language version)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The trick is to add another parameter to the tile URL. Consider 2 URLs below:
http://mt2.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.75&x=25536&s=&y=15119&zoom=2&s=Galileo
http://mt2.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.75&x=25536&s=&y=15119&zoom=2&s=Galileo&hl=en

Note that the second URL is ending with language definition parameter: hl=en...

The easiest way to make it work with gmdl is to attach this parameter to the version number (in the top left edit box: w2.75&hl=en (next to Google Map radio button)... To check that it's working just hit the preview button

1)Another arrow is not hard to do, but since it's not the frequently requested feature, I doubt I'd ever implement it..
2) gmdl allows you to cut out certain parts of the map OR certain zooms.. This should help to reduce your map size.. Then there is a compression tool to cut off another 20% if needed... Read up the forums and the manuals/readme to gmdl

Hi, I tried registering to this forum but the authentication image doesn´t show so thats why I´m using bugmenot username.

Anyway, my question is how to use png - tiles on a website? I know there is a folder named mashup in the Windows maps download tool where there is a template for website. Problem is that it doesn't show the tiles which I have extracted with windows maps download tool to subfolder named tiles. Is the structure according to Tile Map Service (TMS)?

What changes do I need to make to the code in order to get png tiles showing in website?

Is GMDL still working for Google Maps ? Yesterday, while i was ddownloading some Hybrid maps from Google of Lanzarote, it stopped working. It kept telling me i was missing 35 tiles.

When i paste the url from the ERROR.LOG in a browser, i get an error about automated downloads.... I think they blocked GMDL completely and changed their tile downloading stuff :(

Even preview in GMDL stays empty.

it is always been a case with Google satellite imagery - they have a pretty small quota... all you can do is to try to continue to download the same map next day.. there is a feature in the program - to check/repair the map

Yeah, thanks, it seems to work again. However, the resume function never works.

How does it exactly work ? GMDL always crashes completely when i try to resume by selecting the folder tru "download the map" or "Pull tiles".

I need the complete sat map of Lanzarote. I have it upto 4x without problems (proxy). But i wanted to try and get the 2x and 1x too.

Is it possible to "Combine" maps ? I mean, can i start to download 1 tile at zoom level 2x or 1x. The next day i select the next tile, and so on.
When i hopefulle get enough tiles, can i just copy them all in 1 folder and create the map then ? If so, how should the folders be called ? All i see is 000, 001, 002, ..... but i have no idea what tile needs what number...

I think i found out the problem wit the resume. You first need to fill in zoom, X, Y and min zoom in the ADVANCED PANEL (bottom LEFT), before you even try to resume. When you do that, it seems to work fine for me.

Hi All,

Relatively new to the land of PSP although have some knowledge of PC's etc..

I've got a Holux GPSlim236, I've ordered a cable, I've downloaded MapThis! and I have TomTom 6 on my PDA. I've searched the net to see if it is possible to use TomTom maps with the PSP/ MapThis!, but I think that might just be an urban myth, so I've looked into (or trying to) using MapThis!, but so far I've had no success in getting the maps sorted (think it's beyond my capabilities).. I guess what I'm asking here is.. are there any maps already generated that I can download from somewhwre/ someone?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated ;0)

With the current version of GMDL its not possible to download maps of google maps. You only get a message: "Something not quite right with this page..."

I took a look in the source and found the problem. A FormatException is thrown in the Int32.Parse method. Google changed the format of their Urls.

Old:
http://mt1.google.com/mt?n=404&v=w2.63&x=9&y=12&zoom=12&s=Galileo

New:
http://mt2.google.com/mt?v=nq.83&hl=de&x=2&y=4&z=4&s=Ga

zoom= changed to z= and the n= parameter is missing.

In addition the source is horrible. Labels are used for string storage, names of UI elements and variables are often nonsense. But ok: It works. so far.

But there is a bug in the URL parse function of the Google Maps part. You are trying to get the URL Parameter values through an index-of algorithm. You search for an & after the x=, y=, zoom= strings. But its possible that there is no & after this parameters because of the ending url with an ".

There is a link in this format at the beginning:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=37.0625,-95.677068&spn=44.928295,64.160156&z=4

I've written a new parser using regular expressions:
GMdl.cs -> GetNumbers() (Line: 402)

else // google
{
// Get all Links
StringCollection resultList = new StringCollection();
try
{
Regex regexObj = new Regex(@"((?#protocol)https?|ftp)://((?#domain)[-A-Z0-9.]+)((?#file)/[-A-Z0-9+&@#/%=~_|!:,.;]*)?((?#parameters)\?[-A-Z0-9+&@#/%=~_|!:,.;]*)?", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase);
Match matchResult = regexObj.Match(page);
while (matchResult.Success)
{
resultList.Add(matchResult.Value);
matchResult = matchResult.NextMatch();
}
}
catch (ArgumentException)
{
// Syntax error in the regular expression
}

// Iterate all images and search for minimum zoom
foreach (var s in resultList)
{
try
{
// Search for Minimum Zoom
string z = Regex.Match(s, "z=([0-9]+)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase).Groups[1].Value;
int iz = Int32.Parse(z);
min_zoom = Math.Min(iz, min_zoom);
}
catch (ArgumentException)
{
// Syntax error in the regular expression
}
}

// Iterate all Images and search for min and max x and y for minimum zoom
foreach (var s in resultList)
{
try
{
// Get Zoom
string z = Regex.Match(s, "z=([0-9]+)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase).Groups[1].Value;
int iz = Int32.Parse(z);
// Is Minimum Zoom?
if(min_zoom == iz)
{
// Get x and y
string x = Regex.Match(s, "x=([0-9]+)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase).Groups[1].Value;
int ix = Int32.Parse(x);
string y = Regex.Match(s, "y=([0-9]+)", RegexOptions.IgnoreCase).Groups[1].Value;
int iy = Int32.Parse(y);

min_x = Math.Min(ix, min_x);
max_x = Math.Max(ix, max_x);

min_y = Math.Min(iy, min_y);
max_y = Math.Max(iy, max_y);
}
}
catch(ArgumentException)
{
// Syntax error in the regular expression
}
}

if (MapType() == "iFMnpe")
{
int cen_x = min_x + 1;
int cen_y = min_y + 1;

cen_x++;
cen_y++;

decimal[] Bcoord = LLXY.getLatLong(cen_x, cen_y, min_zoom); // center of map if compliant2x2
decimal minlat = Bcoord[1];
decimal maxlon = Bcoord[0];

mu.latC = System.Convert.ToDouble(minlat);
mu.lonC = System.Convert.ToDouble(maxlon);
}
}

Of course you need to change the method which creates the Map-URL for receiving the images.
mapUrl.cs -> GoogleMap() (Line:384)

public string GoogleMap(int zoom, int x, int y)
{
string s = "http://mt" + RandomGoogle() + ".google.com/mt?v=" + iMversion + "&x=" + x.ToString() + "&y=" + y.ToString() + "&z=" + zoom.ToString() + "&s=" + RandomGoogle2();
Debug.WriteLine(s);
return s;
}

But this does not solve the problem. Because their is a bug in the calculation of the x and y coordinates in addition with the zoom factor.

I would love to fix this problems and optimize the code. But I need the knowledge of the google maps backend (How the x and the y values are calculated) and how files are written, gps data is calculated,...

It would be great if you can fix this bug.
You should open a google code project where you offer this project. there is no official website where you get information about this project. You can contact me if you want help for this project.

in7ane, somebody, - Please fix the google map problem. I desperately need a map by next weekend! I'm going to Baja and gettin lost in Tijuna is no fun. I will donate money!
BTW - you're application is awesome (until Google maps screwed us over)

Sorry for posting this all over the place, just hoping the message gets out.

Updated GMDL 0.5.07b, the problems were due to the fact that Google changed the way they number the zooms, so a few things messed up. If there are any remaining problems please let me know (for future problems - posting int his thread is the best way to report them).

http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

Changes:

- gps.txt (GPS path recorded by Map This!) can now be read in (Direction tab) and saved as a POI file for use with Map This! or as a KML file for Google Earth

- Fix for a change in the zoom numbering used by Google

driven905, there are no Windows Mobile readers for GPSFS that I'm aware of, I would suspect that there is something out there that can view the tiles (although probably wrapped up in a different container than GPSFS).

Airwave, try this and let me know which part does not work (it works here, so it's probably a page localization thing)

put in: Bischofswerda 01877 to Ostritz 02899
and click search maps - you should get the direction on the webpage

click Get Values
you should get
From: Bischofswerda 01877
To: Ostritz 02899

if you do not, let me know what localization you have Windows set to, type those in manually

click List, and see if it works

distermaer, this seems to be a problem with SQLite, judging by C:/Program%20Files%20(x86) - are you running on a non typical setup (not x86? 64 bit?)

Danielku15, the GMDL code is indeed horrible (although fixed for now - Google changed the zoom index so now it is z=17-zoom). Thanks for the regular expressions parser, I will incorporate it into the next version. As for hosting the project somewhere - google code is probably not the best choice since it is quite likely that they will pull it at some point (they used to be very hostile towards anything even describing how tiles can be downloaded) - any other suggestions, or a backup strategy if it does get pulled from google code?

in7ane
September 21st, 2008, 00:58
magnum76, piquadrat, MicroNut, nixgear, there was another change in the way maps.google URLS are structured, a new version fixes that (0.5.08b):

http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

hpghost, jon_tokyo, unfortunately I do not have a Vista setup to test GMDL (I will get around to setting up a Vista VM at some point), however it is now compiled in VS 2008 instead of 2005, so 0.5.08b may work under Vista now (it has before at some point, so probably some update somewhere changed something).

mikkvind, select WMS enter the address, click layer: and select the desired layer (I guess you've reached this point if the layers show up ok), then navigate to the area in Google Maps and click preview - you should see the WMS server's tiles. However, not all WMS servers will serve tiles that are compatible (size, projection).

Trypa, the geodata from Google was more of a test, there is no way of making it reliable so the errors are to be expected (and you will get blocked by Google at some point).

pang, could you post the location and the map source (google terrain, etc.) you are using (also the Map This! version and the PSP type/firmware), this may end up being a problem on the PSP side.

I'm using GMDL to build map caches for iPhone/iTouch (like at least 20000 users) and I would like to add extra informations on my maps, like those available in Google Map Maker.

For example I was trying to add subways view of Paris on my map, but nothing appears in the extracted map. Any idea ?

To overcome this probem you have change in project's properties from "any CPU" to "x86" (build options, as far as I remember) and recompile it. Hope this will help you :)

Hi in7ane,

I noted that the maps downloaded by GMDL 5.09a are being much smaller than the estimated size shown in the tile view. I downloaded the map for Austin/TX which in the tile view GMDL estimated the size of about 800 MB and, after the download has finished, I've got a map with about 162MB. Is it normal? Have you applied some compression method for the GPSFS files.

Thanks for your great application.

hi Insane, I can't send you a private message so I write it here.
Some iPhone users are sad because maps cache generated by GMDL are no longer compatible with 2.2 firmware. Database tables must had been modified.

Could you make a new version to support 2.2 iTouch Firmware ?

You'll find new maps caches here :
http://code.google.com/p/gmdl/issues/detail?id=1

Redart
November 24th, 2008, 11:02
No, tables are intact. It's the tile size. Now it is 128x128px, not 64x64 as before.
BTW, you can get converter form old to new format here (http://imapsmanager.com/mapConverter/Mapv4v5Converter.zip) (source code included).

in7ane
November 26th, 2008, 04:39
rnelias, the discrepancy happens in areas where there are not a lot of streets at lower zoom levels (since the tiles are blank and take up less space). Right now I calculate the estimated size based on the tiles displayed onscreen - I'm still thinking of an elegant solution to sampling the whole stack for a better estimate.

Kheo, due to exams it will probably be December, or maybe January, before I get a chance to modify GMDL for the 2.2 firmware tile database format. in the meantime there is the converter liked to by Redart. It also looks like the converter's author is planning to release a much more user-friendly tool specifically to download and build iPhone maps (this may also be faster if downloaded tiles are cut up and dumped directly into the database, skipping the file and the GPSFS stages in GMDL).

I'm totally new to this and I'm not a gamer. I'm trying to download / save google maps to my PDA Dell Axim v51 for offline viewing and or GPS navigation.
I'm not sure if anyone can or wants to help me with this, but I have tried to get "Global Map download tool" to work on my Vista PC, with the following problems:
1. No Graphics and No Tiles are selected when I try to "Download the map"
2. Something about changing my IP address or what for several hours
3. A text file stating a problem with WMS Service

And What is GPSFS? Is that the file that I use to view the maps offline??

Any help is appriciated

CONGRATULATIONS,

In7ane, it's a great work, I'm really surprised. Just a small question... is there an "easy" way to generate a calibration file for each tile? The GPSFS files are not explained in deep in the wikibooks, so it's a bit frustrating having your great software just for PSP
(I was thinking in Ozi and the like). Surely a deeper study and a bit of rev-eng may end with a simple script to generate the cal files needed, but perhaps you have done something into this direction.

Carlos

Hello IN7ANE,

thank you for this amazing software you have written, it is really fantastic.

I have two question for you.

QUESTION 1: The transport company of Montreal (STM), has map of the city with all the bus routes and metro stops on it. They provide it in a 4.5 meg .pdf format ( http://www.stm.info/info/reseau2008.pdf ) that has enough definition to be zoomed to street level. I would like to have access to it from my iPod but the file is to big to be loaded as a pdf. Is there any way of turing this pdf into maps tiles and then iphone maps cache?

QUESTION 2: I have made maps of various cities and I have even me a much less zoomed in map of the Eastern US and Canada. About 1 gig with a surprising level of detail (it's for all the highways and such). I have yet to see if my iPod could handle it. I will be making a map of Western US and Canada and I would like to know if there is a way I could combine the two maps. Is there anyway of overlay the smaller city maps in the big ones?

Thanks again! Keep up the awesome work!
Fadi

Hi in7ane,
Well I try one more time....
Is it possible to view the maps downloaded via Global Map download tool (the GPSFS files) on a PDA (Dell Axim)? If so what map viewing software do I need?
Thanks for any replies,

Jetsfan,

I am having the same problem. Regardless of how far in/out I zoom or the location I try to capture, I am presented with only a very zoomed in 4x4 image when I attempt to do preview1x or preview2x. Please let us know if you find out what is causing this. Thanks!

AdamRav, http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html refreshes to download the latest version of GMDL ( http://www.in7ane.com/psp/ sometimes also has the absolute latest alpha versions gmdl###.a.zip ).

pete69, a full map of China will be too big to download. The effect you are seeing is due to tiles on the right of the dateline being onscreen and getting picked-up - scroll further to the left (or click Advanced, Get Numbers and play around with the values).

tyhee007, I do not know on any other apps that read GPSFS, as for the download problems - it looks like Google blocked you for downloading too many tiles.

FFR, there are too many tiles to meaningfully tie them in Ozi, you can however Set Dir, click view and then GPSFS -> GE(S)O ... which will generate a Google Earth overlay (with each tile having lat/lon in the corresponding kml file) - the tile structure is in the Google Maps projection (conversion to lat/lon is well documented elsewhere). You can also Save 8192x8192 tiles from there, and tie them in Ozi (merge in Photoshop first if you end up with more than one), the corners are the same as of the top 4 tiles in the tilestack (top kml file).

mo.mashi, 1. Convert the pdf to a PNG, then follow the instructions at http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Global_Map_Download_Tool#Creating_a_Custom_Map_.28 old.29 to create the GPSFS files which you can then convert to the iPhone format (let me know if you have any problems, this is quite useful so maybe I should document it better). 2. Theoretically yes, but in practice it will be too flaky to work (Maps.app loses the cache if you ever go outside the area/zoom).

jetsfan0786, rando, the sticking of zoom at a zoomed in level is due to Google Maps caching tiles, click refresh and then only zoom in to the area (what happens is if you start zoomed in and then zoom out the zoomed in tiles are still getting picked up to determine the location).

tyhee007, I use GMDL, also for psp and Mapthis! and for make maps for Mio p350.
After dowload a map for psp, you can click on "view" and then on botton "save 8192x8192".
at the end of the process, you have, in the same directory of map for Mapthis!, one or more big images .png or . jpg that you can calibrate and then use with two software that I prefer: Memorymap and Pocket Compegps.
Memorymap use files.tif at 256 color, Compegps use maps made from files.jpg more fine to look.
Theese two software, that run under Windows mobile, unfortunately are not free.

Hi there. I was wondering about something and did not have the time to read through 110 pages of posts to see if the question had been answered =P.

Is there a way to generate a database of residential POI's? i.e.: From house to house? I wanted to get the full commercial GPS functionality out of these awesome programs if it's at all possible. I would rather have this than going to the trouble of generating a single directions file every time I needed to get from my house to a friend's (or perhaps one of HIS friend's houses).

Is there a way to do this through the geodata that I'm just not seeing? I know it downloads the addresses but it can't plot routes.

Hello there... congratulations for the GMDL, it's awesome.

I've been looking for geodata from Brasil and couldn't find it. So, I'm trying to make my own geodata file to use with MapThis! at the PSP. I've made a csv with these entries:
-26,3611103; -48,8101808; RUA AMABILE SEBALDI; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3586086; -48,8104450; RUA HENRIQUE WALMOR LENNERT; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3611196; -48,8114431; RUA LEOPOLDO VOOS; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3611866; -48,8101941; RUA SUELI MACHADO CARVALHO; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3601466; -48,8113671; RUA ANTONIA CORREA VIEIRA; JOINVILLE (SC)
-26,3554195; -48,8193221; RUA ABAETE; JOINVILLE (SC)

and converted to geodata.dat file. I put it at the PSP but I couldn't be able to find any of these entries. I've tried to type anything in the field "Street". There's something wrong with the entries?

Thanks!!!

Hi Guys,

I've read some posts about that but don't know if it was solved already. I'm trying to download hybrid google maps but once I start the process I only can see Google maps (only the streets) tiles at the directories.

I tried yesterday from home in a Vista PC and I'm trying now in a Windows 2000 but seems the same behavior. Does anyone knows what can I do to download the hybrid tiles and see it in my PSP Map This software?

Thanks in advance.

you can significantly trim the file size and d/l time by dropping most detailed zoom levels (there are options in the program to do that.

All i care about is getting a normal map (never mind geodata for now). But the preview always shows up blank and not a single image is downloaded from google. The program DOES work for some of the other map sources such as yahoo for example...

any suggestions? maybe google changed something on there map site which broke GMDL...

GMDL .11b

http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

Google Maps fixed as a source (map, hybrid, China, MapMaker)
Output to iPhone fixed (hybrid and sat now work) - nothing done for OS 3.0 yet

(if somebody could upload a sample 3.0 com.apple.Maps.plist and MapTiles.sqlitedb, if that changed as well, that would be great since I think the changes are quite minor and would literally take a few minutes if I had the sample files to look at. I'm staying with 2.2 for the time being so can't just get them myself.)

- will address other questions posted here over the weekend hopefully

I use Windows 7 x64, and when I try to create the iPhone map from my downloaded files, it gives me an error that's attached to my message.

GMDL 0.5.12b - http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl.html

Confirmed as working with iPhone firmware 3.0.1 (make sure you click copy in, and use OfflineMaps_3.0_PREVIEW_iphoneos-arm.deb, move the map a bit if tiles do not load right away)

Google Maps Terrain (and others) fixed

binhusc's geodata changes from the 0.5.10b mod (southern hemisphere)

Le Pimpage, I think you may have to recompile (open GMDL.csproj and press the play button) for 64-bit (there is a free version of Visual Studio that you can do it with).

dragon92, OpenStreetMap works fine here, could you post step-by-step what you do and what happens

binhusc, your 10b geodata changes are in - thank you for fixing that!

Le Pimpage, looks like it is an issue with the SQLite DLL, try this:

http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl0.5.13a.zip

In bin/Debug replace System.Data.SQLite.DLL with the one from the directory 'x64 SQLite'

If that doesn't work, try, in Visual Studio:
1. remove System.Data.SQLite.DLL from References (solution explorer, on the right)
2. from the Project menu select Add Reference, then Browse then Add, and re-add System.Data.SQLite.DLL (the x64 one), then press 'play' so it builds the exe again

Kosmsnimki in the process of being fixed
New custom sources and browser being worked on
x64 support (replace System.Data.SQLite.DLL in the Debug directory with the one from the "x64 SQLite" directory)
Google Maps Terrain fixed again (Mar 23, 2010)
Random tile delay (optional, on average 0.075sec)
More informative progress message (time remaining, tiles missed, updates when done)
Detail selection screen improvements (button to uncheck all, number of tiles)
Export of Transit Maps (iPhone app) compatible tiles from the View screen
Google Transparent source (just the streets part of hybrid, useful for Google Earth overlays (note: GPSFStileserver keys on the map directory having "transp" in its name for non-overlapping display))
Separate app: GPSFStileserver 0.3a (an http-server to serve GPSFS files as tiles and KML for Google Earth overlays) on http://www.in7ane.com/psp/

I'm a newbie, but want to download the Orlando area for a trip from UK so that I can use it offline when in USA.

I can't seem to figure out how to customise the required area. The default area takes a very small area from the preview map.

Please could someone help, or direct me to a detailed tutorial.

David

First off, let me say I'm a noob :D I have just gotten into PSP homebrew - by accident - but it's great ! And thanks so much to Deniska and in7ane. I got the MapThis! and GMDL working and it's incredible. I'm trying to turn my PSP into a decent GPS device. The only questions I have (right now) are 1) can you use the maps compressed by the GMDLUtil in MapThis! with no problems or slowdown ? (the maps are very large) and 2) I tried Nieko's getroute link/script and it's very sweet. How do I get a route into my MapThis! on the PSP ? Do I download the HTML file and put it in the map directory ? Thanx much !!

Uh Oh! I just found psp-maps 2.2 has gps-290 support. dig this. you can use google, yahoo maps, virtual earth,and open street map. you can cache up to 9 zoom levels, cache size up to 32 Gb, save up to 99 favorite maps and you get these maps cached just by going online with the app and viewing, caching and saving desired maps. take it to the street and it auto focuses on your position using your gps module. !!WOW!! just what i was looking for. an all in one, psp map finder and utilizer. way way easier. sorry guys. great work though.

Anyone know where I can get a compiled version that actually works on 64-bit? Keep getting the "unhandled exception" error.

Okay, the unhandled exception I'm getting isn't restricted to 64-bit. Seems Google changed something in Maps.

Here is the full error:

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
