Exophase (http://bitpack.net/) has just realeased gpSP 0.6 :), GameplaySP is a fullspeed GBA Emulator for the PSP, heres the release details:

Not everything I wanted to get in is there but I figured I've made people wait long enough for a fix to my stupid bug from last time, heh.

Heres what's new

v0.6 - (still beta quality, look out for new bugs)
NOTE: Please include gpsp.cfg with EBOOT.PBP, this shouldn't be necessary but I think it is right now.
# Fixed a nasty bug that shouldn't have made it into the initial release; a lot of games that TECM.. erm.. crash won't anymore. NOTE: This doesn't mean that no game will ever crash, freeze,
otherwise not work.
# Fixed some crashes in the GUI and the ability to "go up" past ms0:/PSP. Made the "go up" button square like it was supposed to be (instead of cross).
+ There's now a menu that you can access, by default press right while holding down triangle for the frameskip bar.
+ Menu option: resize screen aspect ratio, the default is now "scaled 3:2" which makes it look more like a normal GBA. You can use "fullscreen" (what it was like before) or "unscaled 3:2"
(tiny but pixel for pixel like a GBA)
+ Menu option: You can now load new games while the current one is running.
+ Menu option: You can now restart the currently running game.
+ Menu option: Frameskip variation - this defaults to "uniform" whereas it defaulted to "random" last release. Basically, turn it on random if you find that frameskip causes flickering animations to make things disappear. Other than that it will generally look better on uniform.
+ GUI and file loading now have "auto repeat" on the buttons so they're not such a pain to navigate.
+ Menu option: Added support for 128KB flash ROM, some games require it (Pokemon Firered/Leaf Green, Super Mario Advance 4), turn it on before running the game to make sure it works. NOTE: There are some versions of these ROMs that have been hacked to get around their 128KB flash, and may not even work properly at all. Look out for them, these games should save 128KB save files after you set the setting to it, IF they use 128KB flash.
+ Menu option: Added ability to make the .sav files only update when you exit the emulator, use with extreme caution (in other words, it's not a good idea to use something like this in beta quality software if you care about your saves). Does NOT update if you exit through the home button, don't use the home button if you can help it.
+ Zip support thanks to SiberianSTAR. It will load the first file with the extension .gba or .bin that it finds.
+ Menu options are saved to gpsp.cfg. Note that it does not save frameskip options or flash ROM options because these are very per game particular.
+ The emulator will now try to save backup files to somethingmore matching the backup size than a fixed 64KB. @ Loading ROMs and the auto save of the .sav files is MUCH faster now. Thanks for the heads up on how to improve this from pollux!
@ While coding for the screen resize code I found that SDL just wasn't cutting it and had to code for the GU myself. Turns out the new code is faster (but because it is render code anyimprovement will be diminished to nothing as frameskip is increased). Special thanks to Zx-81 for the tips on this one
and for his GU code in the PSPVBA source as an example.
@ Added some games to game_config.txt. Note that not all versions of these ROMs will work with these options, try to use the USA version if possible.

Just a note, be SURE to include the included gpsp.cfg with the EBOOT or things might get messed up. It shouldn't need it but I guess it does for now.

quick help, my Emerald of pokemon works on the last release..now crashes right when open it. can anyone help, do i need to set the config a certian way?

NVM, it was the 128k thing, for some reason, you NEED it on before the game starts in order for it work. oh well, i guese i learned somthing. also, i had to get a differen't rom, and at first it made the white screen, then i set it to 128k, restarted the game, all was fixed. even saves.

zelda minish cap do not crash anymore...Awesome!

Maybe in the next version we could have an option to remove sound emulation...it would help game like advance war to run faster

Kramer

Yeah but you cant cut bushes down yet so zelda aint playable yet.

pkmaximum
August 27th, 2006, 07:21
I was also hoping that in this version Zelda the Minish cap would have that bush bug fix. I don't understand how a problem in a emulator could result to a bug in game on a certain particular rom. Just doesn't make sense to me. Like things like that you would usually expect to see the problem as the rom dump.

you dont need to remove ur battery, just hit HOME and go back. thats what i do everytime it crashes...why would u take ur battery out? u can also re-set the psp with the right side switch.

no need to remove battery

You also can't roll with the R button. I checked on my PC emu and you can roll by pressing the D-pad in any direction and the R button. It also should say, "Roll" on the display when you are moving, but it doesn't.

I feel like this emulator is working backwards. Usually they start off with most games working, and then they increase speed. This one just started off with perfect speed and is just fixing bugs and compatability. No complaints here, it's more fun this way.

Guys, you do NOT need patched roms. Do not patch your roms or download patched roms. They won't work properly. If a game needs 128kb saves, just change the saves to 128kb before you load the rom.

excellent stuff here, it plays games even smoother than on my GBA for some reason (when i have no framskip) >_<. anyways, theres a slght problem with minish cap. it doesnt crash after i get the map, but i get stuck, because shrubs, bushes and stumps etc replacethemselves automaticly when picked up.cut thus making it impossible to proceed. just though id let you know

The 0.6 Version is not working at all for me.

Just replaced the files in __SCE__gbSP folder with the ones from the new release.

When I now try to start the emulator my PSP tells me, that this game is not working :(.

When I put the 0.5 .PBP file in the folder again, it works perfectly. But its the old release...

Do I need to change someting in the %__SCE__gbSP folder?

all we need now are save/load states! practically the most important part of the emu. how would you like it if you've gotten far on progress then can't save? hmmm, probably some optimizations too for some games (freezing, crashing, etc.). but this is still in beta and it's already good!

Awesome! I've been checking for an update to this emu about 10 times a day. lol. Some games seem to have sound issues that didn't before. I am really hoping to see analog support on the next revision. (I know, the GBA don't have analog - but the PSP's D-pad sucks lol) How much space does keeping roms zipped save? Does that make them slower? Great work Exophaze! (I hope I spelled it right) And also thanks to ZX-81 for his help w/ this revision. :)

to fix a lot of the problems you are all having try the following

1. Check to make sure u have the GBA Bios and that its correctly named.
2. Delete all gPSP06 folders from the memory stick.
3. Use PSP Brew to save the eboot so that the folder names stay correctly.
4. Copy all the files from the gPSP06 folder to the memory stick leaving out the eboot that u have just transferred.
5. Get a game you know worked on the old version and finally.......

awesome release also there is still the bug in castlevania harmony when you press start to go to the menu and then come back to the game, all the graphics go crazy and when you click select to see the map and go back to the game everything is alright. I hope to see a fix on this on the next release.

Whatever is causing the bushes/grass in Zelda Minish Cap not to work (i.e. not cut down/disappear) is hopefully going to be fixed in the next release. It is strange that it is happen for this rom - but this game does run blazingly fast without any fram skipping. Audio is fantastic, a little crackly at points but nonetheless outstanding.

Can't wait for the next release - truly amazing...

Pumped up I can't say it any better than that. I can't wait for the next release to see if it solves the problem.

What are some other fun games that work well. I haven't played with gba in a long time.

This Is a great release. He has fixed the bug with pokemon when using growl. My roms are working perfect. However Fire emblem freezes for 1 second ending your turn and other places

My favourite GBA game, Fire Emblem seems to be running really well, but there's one nagging graphic issue.

Any one else have this happening:

Whenever you move one of your characters certain areas of the map flash red. It fixes itself after a battle scene though, but will happen each time you move someone.

Words fail me though, on how fricking great this emulator is.
