From the Circuit City site:

Want to play your original xbox games on your new Xbox 360?
Backward compatibility on the Xbox 360 is done through software*

Let Circuit City install it for you
For just $28.99

What are the benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console?

• Every game* will be playable in high definition.
• Every original Xbox game* will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360's anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture that is clear and crisper than anything available on Xbox.

*Refer to the original Xbox games list to ensure compatibility on the Xbox 360.

It's not Microsoft that's doing it.. I don't know why people are so quick to bash them without reading the facts. O_o If you even read the TOPIC, you'd note that this is Circuit City charging people for something that Microsoft releases for free.

Dunno why anyone would pay for that, or even what they're doing..

You would pay for it if you didn't have a way to download/install it for yourself.

If you go to Best Buy you'll probably see "let us install it" stickers on video games.

It's not suprising considering that Circuit City was a major proponet of the DIVX format(as opposed to DVDs) during the mid'90's. With their version of DIVX however you could not really buy movies per se but rather continually rent them.

You can download them from a public librairy and burn them to a cd. Put it into your xbox360 and it will install the update. You could ask a firend to download and burn it for you
You can also request that a update cd be mailed to you.
