NO NO!!! dont downgrade!! if it is a ta-082 you run an extremely high risk of bricking your psp!
on your psp box you should see a white label that will be next to the POS BAR CODE. the white label should say UC2 in the top left corner and in the top right it should say just like this: PSP-1001 K
120V
(letter will be here)
hope that helped:) :D :) :D
Can you plz post a pic? I looked everywhere, there is no letter I think. My psp is NOT the kind that came with headphones and crap. Mine came with only the AC adapter and was $200

Are all core PSP's ta-082? Or are some core PSP's ta-081?
Edit: If the code on the sticker on a PSP with the numbers ends in 1 does that mean it's ta-082? If it ends in 0, does that mean it is a ta-081?
Thekinglotr
September 4th, 2006, 19:04
your best bet is to buy a premium set at a place that doesnt sell many psps, so they will still have the older ones. you can also tell by the letters on the box, earlier in this thread we talked about this, just go back and take a look, I am pretty sure its there.

does this work on 2.80?
burrito
September 4th, 2006, 19:18
The letters on the box is only for PSPs that come with the headphones and case and stuff. My PSP is not that old and I thought maybe I could tell Walmart that my PSP is a gift and that it broke (didn't really happen) then exchange it for a new core PSP. I just don't know if all core psps are TA-082. I think that Walmart lets you exchange things if you say it was a gift then it broke.

September 4th, 2006, 19:21
I found a pic of where the sticker with a letter should be: http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f100/NeilR_QJ/psp_version.jpg
and my box does not have a letter, or say 120V.
So there's no way to tell if a core psp will be a ta-082 without opening up the box.
Does anyone have a PSP that they bought as a core system, and is not ta-082?

September 4th, 2006, 19:23
guys the number ur looking for is under the UMD drive, it should be IC6001(downgradeable)...if it's IC1003 it's a TA-082 mobo(not downgradeable) and as far as the letters go on the box, there should be a letter A,B,C,D,E,F,G(these are all downgradeable) H and I are the TA-082 mobos
@buildit92: no it doesn't work on 2.8

Thanks to both of you for confirming that the letter K means a 2.60 NON TA-082 PSP. This will surely be helpful in the hunt to find downgradable PSP's in the store.
I plan on buying 2 or 3 more downgradable PSP's in the near future if I can hunt them down. Why you ask? Basically because eventually SONY is bound to find a way to make their firmware non-downgradable and once all of the downgradable PSP's are sold or upgraded, thats it. You will find people selling them on eBay for ridiculous amounts and once they are gone, they will be gone. The extra PSP's will be good for girlfriend and future children to be able to enjoy. Also, it would be wise to have a back-up in case your precious 1.50 malfunctions in some way.
Imagine 2 or 3 years down the road and you feel like whipping out your 1.50 for come classic NES or SNES retro gaming and for some reason it stops working.... That would send me into a major PANIC if I had no other spares. In 2-3 years it won't be as simple as just going to your local Wal-Mart to get a replacement. Hell, in 2-3 years you probably won't be able to find any USED 1.50 or downgradable PSP's at GameStop.
WRONG!!
here is a picture of my psp box where it says 1001K
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e222/AlexChase/scan0001.jpg
but my psp has a ta082 mobo
it also has the number IC6001 aswell as the IC1003
it also was a original 2.6fw

What number does the UPC code end in on your PSP's sticker? Does it end in 0 or 1? I think ending in 0 might mean that it is not TA-082.
@buildit92: this can only downgrade 2.71, if you have 2.8, you can't downgrade it now

DO NOT DOWNGRADE IT. your psp will get bricked
burrito
September 4th, 2006, 21:37
"hello world" uses a different code than the real 2.71 downgrader. "hello world" is just a .tiff to show it will be possible to have a 2.8 downgrader later
007jordan
September 4th, 2006, 21:38
y will it get bricked people have been saying a IC6001 and the letter e wont brick
BL4Z3D247
September 4th, 2006, 21:40
actually the IC6001 mobos can downgrade, u need to have upgraded once though(if ur psp came with a 2.5 fw u need to upgrade to 2.6 and use the 2.5/2.6 downgrader, and if ur psp came with 2.6 u need to upgrade to 2.71 and use the 2.71 downgrader)
@taco111: acually the tiff exploit for 2.8 is just for the eloader, there is no kernel mode for 2.8 using the eloader so they can't downgrade

yes definitely if u bought ur psp when it was a 1.5
just make sure ur psp has over 50% battery(i perfer 100%) and just follow instructions EXACTLY how they are, and DON'T take out the battery for any reason...also this downgrader is tricky u need to keep trying it until u get a RED screen

ok here's the README:
Instructions for the 2.71 user
-------------------------------
1) Copy the files inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memory stick.
2) Wait someone with 1.50 to pass you a folder called DOWNDATER and copy it to the root of your memstick.
3) It is recomended that you have the psp at more than 50% batteery and connected to AC
4) Go to the xmb photo viewer.
At this point will one of the following things:
a) You'll see a full red screen. This indicates that the downdater is doing its job.
Wait for it to finish. When it finish it will crash on purpose. Restart your psp manually
and you'll probably have a 1.50 if nothing went wrong.
b) You don't see the red screen. This indicates that the downdater code has not started
to execute. (even if the memstick blinks(or no), it doesn't matter! if the screen is not red, you can safely restart
the psp at this point).
This happen because of inestability in the tiff.
Don't worry, just restart the psp and keep trying until you reach the red screen of downdate.
The downdater code is NEVER executed partially. It's either executed totally or nothing.
It depends of "luck" but usually the downdater will start to execute in a average of 1/10 times.
Things that may increase the probabilities:
- A fresh formatted memory stick.
- A 32 MB memory stick (and fresh formatted)

well they started shipping psp's with factory 2.5 fw that have the TA-082 mobo so some 2.5/2.6 have the TA-082 and some don't, but if u get a 2.01 fw psp then ur good and can definitely downgrade(other than that just check in the UMD drive for IC6001 in the top left corner as soon as u get it)

Do only the older core PSPs have the letter on the sticker by where it says 120V? Because my core PSP I got at the end of May has no sticker on the box (the one that has a letter and says 120V)
on that same sticker right under the 120V there is no letter A-I???

All that my sticker says is "Serial Number for Registration" then it has numbers (NO LETTERS) and a bar code.
On http://forums.maxconsole.net they said that only the newer PSPs have no letter on the sticker on the box.

I am one of those stupid people that upgrade to 2.8 just because I was tempted by Sony's carrot the downloadable soccer game, which was pants anyway...probably the worst thing I have ever done in gaming history...and feel I have myself and only myself to blame for being sucked into the corporate tosspot world of Sony...
My only option now is to try and get rid of my 2.8 and buy a 1.5-2.71 PSP...
Brilliant work to those who created this downloader, you should get an award...

Can someone help me. Is there any other place where I can download the Easy Downgrader 2.71?

September 5th, 2006, 13:32
Hi everyone,
First of all I would start by introducing my self, My name is Faisal from Saudi Arabia. I am doing this step by step guide which is part of my quest to 1.5.
Now some of you may find this lengthy and boring. Well…. The idea behind writing this in such detailed way is to ensure I cover all the topics that are required to achieve a successful 1.5. Also this is intended for Noobs like my self who ask for more eachtime. So here it goes:
What PSP I have:
I bought my PSP 1 month ago. It was a factory 1.52FW PSP-1007K WS259 “C”. This is the Taiwanese version. For those of you who don’t know the previous versions of the Software downgraders were unscuccessful with a PSP-1006 & 1007 (Asian versions). But that’s not the case with Dark Alex’s Easy Full Downgrader 2.71>1.5 by XTRUSION.
History of UPGRADE Before getting 1.5!
As mentioned above, I had a factory 1.52FW, so in order to play the new games I upgraded to 2.60FW using the GTA disc FW upgrader that came embedded in my GTA. It is a US version of GTA (PATCHED ONE!!!!). believe me the reason I decided to use the new 2.71 Easy Full DG is because I couldn’t find the GTA unpatched version here in Saudi. For those who don’t know the previous Dark Alex DG 2.5/2.6 required an UNPATCHED Copy of GTA LCS (it is as hard to find these days as a factory 1.5… TRUST ME). (How to tell if you have a UNPATCHED …. The ONLY way is to put the UMD in, if it asks for a version 2.0 upgrade it is UNPATCHED otherwise it is PATCHED.
So on 1st September when I came to know about the new downgrader 2.71 > 1.5 I went to the dl.qj.net site and downloaded a copy of the 2.71 FW to upgrade. Successfully upgraded to 2.71 I believe it was the North American version. So once I had the 2.71 I was all set to get 1.5.
Checks before downgrading
THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF MY POST…. READ CAREFULLY. All the information here will help you decide weather you qualify for a Downgrade or not. Pls. Pls. people don’t flood forums by posting 100s of questions with out doing your home work…. As for my self…. I studied about a month from various forums….. trust me the knowledge and person experiences of others really eased my quest…. Anyways…. This is a list that should be followed A-Z no if’s and but’s :
1) Dark Alex Easy Downgrader 2.71 > 1.5 by Xtrusion is ONLY for 2.71.
2) Don’t use it on 2.70 or 2.80. IT WILL BRICK. For 2.70 owners upgrade to 2.71 first.
3) Owners of TA-082 IC1003 (text is on right, if on left behind UMD casing no probs as in my case it had IC1009 behind UMD casing). Don’t do it if you have TA-082 MB, it’ll BRICK.
4) DO NOT forget to plug the power cord all through the process. VERY IMPORTANT.
5) I used a 1GB Sandisk Pro Duo MS. Formatted using my PSP. (u can use 32MB as well).
6) Ensure you use the FULL VERSION of the DG 2.71 > 1.5 using. Don’t use the LITE version. The Full does the job for you, don’t have to worry about placing files and folders in the right places.. The full version is the best way to go… YES It includes the 1.5FW dump… no need to ask for links anymore. Just get the full version and you’re good to go. I got it from RAPID SHARE. It is an EXE file 15.6MB has voice acting funny hehe… especially the “PSP” one….
The Actual Downgrade:
Ok, so after you’ve gone through the above check list, you’re good to go,,,, although the most important thing that you need to understand is : “You’ve been Warned !!!!! This could potentially brick your PSP. Your best chances of doing it right is if you follow the above list and ensure that you’re ready to accept the outcome, Don’t blame anyone…. IT IS YOUR DECISION.!!!
• Connect you PSP to the power adaptor.
• Format your memory stick using PSP.
• Connect to the PC using USB cable
• Run the Dark Alex Easy DownGrader 2.71 > 1.5
• It will ask you if your PSP is compatible or not. Proceed to the next screen and identify drive letter.
• Next the program will start copying the files on the MS for the 1.5 dump.
• Once done, it will ask you to disconnect from USB and go to Photo to run the DG.
• VERY VERY IMPORTANT: It may not run on the first try due to an instability of the TIFF exploit. For my case it took 5 tries until it Finally worked. Just remember don’t worry if you go to Photo and screen FREEZES. This means you need to restart. Don’t worry… you restart manually by holding the ON switch for 10 seconds. You’re still at 2.71 NO HARM to your PSP. According to Dark Alex the code will either execute Fully or Not at all. So don’t worry. I also encountered memory still flashing for about 20 seconds but no red screen. Also one time out of the 5 tries MS light just stayed ON until I manually switched the PSP OFF.
• REMEMBER you are only looking for a FULL RED SCREEN, this is the point of no return. Once you get the RED Screen just DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING!!!!! It should flash for about 2 Minutes and then your PSP will go BLACK. Again give it another minute don’t RUSH!!! Now the software will advise you to switch ON and see the BLUE ERROR screen.
• Just switch it ON using and you will get the BLUE Screen with a lot of text saying “System setting are corrupted press “O” to goto default settings. Now press the O button and wait for the hand of fate…………… You’ll get a reboot and it’ll ask you to set date time etc…. once done you will have a 1.5 FW… YAAAAAAAAAYY.
Special thanks to Dark Alex, Yoshiro, Fanjita, Xtrusion and other developers who made this so easy and possible. Also special thanks to POX & RAGGABLE of PSPHACKING101.com. You guys are unbelievable.. Watched all your 18 episodes… awaiting the next one anxiously.
So in the end guys, trust me it is not difficult at all….. it is really easy with the voice interface. And the process is only 5 minutes total.. so don’t deprive your self of the wonders of 1.5.. HOMEBREW, ISOS, DEVHOOK here I come!!!!!!!
Good Luck to all.!!!!!!

I applied the downdater to my PSP 2.71 and got the red screen ok. The PSP restarted but I'd forgot I'd left a game in (Tekken) and the game started automatically. I didn't get the error message and screen saying it is now v1.5. It still says v2.7 and if I try to re-apply the downgrader it just hangs in the Photo menu. If I delete the tiff file using a PC the PSP works ok but I can't downdate. Anyone got any advice for me?
Many thanks!

I have a new 2.60fw psp, the code in the umd lid is IC6001, and the box has an I on it, can i upgrade to 2.71, then use 2.71 to 1.5 downgrader? I have read thru this forum and have read that psps with only the IC6001 can downgrade, but also read that the letter I on your box (next to barcode) means you can't downgrade and now i'm all confused, can someone confirm if it is or not ok to upgrade to 2.71, then down to 1.5 from there? - Thanks in advance

could 2.80 flash access be approved in the near future because when you extract the 2.80 update and change the eboot version to 2.90, then recompile it, then psp acctually loads the update as signed code :)

If the red screen doesn't appear and your PSP freezes (along with turning itself off after about 10 seconds) , it isn't a brick. Just restart the console and try again.

Hold your power switch up for about 10 seconds or untill your psp turns off then turn it back on. Try the downgrader untill it actually opens, it doesnt open everytime, the tiff exploit doesnt launch programs first try in some cases. Hope i was of assistance:)

I just had this problem too. I was using a 2gb sandisk memstick.
I was able to get around it by reseting the psp to factory defaults, reformating the memstick, and using the tiny 32mb Sony Memstick that came in my "value pack" (i know a rip off, but its the only way i could find a non ta-082 mobo).
I think a 2gb memstick is too big, and you need to use a smaller one. Just a guess, i really have no clue.. but i'm at 1.5 now.. and its tight.
Maybe this was covered in the 40+ pages of this thread, but i hope it helps someone out.

It wasn't that i have used mega load many times i tried downloading it again and it doesn't ask for a password anymore.I had to try downgrading it twice but i have 1.50.I was worried though i would never replace my old psp that got stolen.
I'm new to the whole firmware stuff so what do i do if i wanna play a umd that requires 2.71?

1. Use DevHook 0.46.
2. Update your 1.5 firmware to 2.71 Special Edition Revision C firmware (2.71SE-C).
Your best bet is to use option #1 but look for the ultimate installer, as it will automatically put the necessary files onto your memory stick.
Option #2 is a little more involving, but not too difficult if you look at the README file. Also, the advantage of doing this option over option #1 is that you don't have to emulate the 2.71 firmware (hence the name 2.71SE-C) and at the same time, you can still play most of your homebrew.

The downgraders won't work for 2.71 SE-C.
I have tried already.
I have also ran the 1.50 eboot from recovery... nothing.

alright i just broke my ****ing psp :/ im pissed, i had version 2.71 i didnt have the version that wasnt compatible with the program, i followed the installation guide... now when you turn my psp on the screen is jsut black and nothing else happens.
see if you want to run emulators or w/e its fun but its also risky cuz you could break your shit even though you follow instructions so just do it with caution.
ps. is ther any way i can fix my psp back to normal?

Um no once its bricked your screwed but if you have warrenty on it there your good.
And if you read the warnings they all say this is risky and should not do it if you don't what your doin,

Tried several times with my 512mb memory stick, but no success.
Tried with my original 32mb memory stick, it worked first time. My PSP is now 1.50
I'm guessing you gotta use the 32mb memory stick.

Hi guys, i'm back after a looooooooong break. Been busy with my 360 but never stopped playing my 1.5. Currently considering getting the 3.02OE-B since it gives you the long awaited REGION FREE UMD and PSX EMULATION without a PS3. let me know if anyone's done that yet. Dark Alex you're the MAN!!!
