The same coder Xtrusion (http://psp.xtrusion.es/en/) who brought you the 2.5/2.6 easy downgrader has used Dark_Alex's 2.71 downdater to create an easy version. This program installs just like a regular windows executable. It guides you through all of the steps to get your psp to from 2.71 to blessed 1.5.

Thank you Xtrusion, Dark_Alex, Fanjita, Skylark, Mathieulh, and all the other coders who made this possible

http://www.dcemu.co.uk/271.jpg

Remember there is always a risk of bricking your psp when using a program that writes to flash. Be careful and follow all the instructions.

What is the difference between FULL & Lite versions?

Also, does anyone know for SURE if this has the newest BUG-FIX of the downgrader?

the difference between the lite version is that it does not contai all the files required for the downgrade, you have to provide them yourself, while the full version has everything

so you just ran the full version krazyx86? should I update my 2.6 to 2.71 and use this one or should I just wait for my copy of gta to come in the mail?

EnderPSP

Thanks for the reply to my ?. I thought DCEMU would not allow ALL the files. To clarify, does this FULL version still need the "illegal" firmware files? Or does it truly have EVERYTHING needed?

I would update to 2.71 and then use the newest BUGFIX release of this downgrader.

I am running 2.60 FW. Where can I find a FW 2.71 update so I can downgrade to 1.50. I used to have a 1.50 when I first bought my PSP on launch day in Canada. At the time I couldn't wait to play new games so I slowly updated from 1.5-2.0 then 2.6 when MLB the show came out. I had never heard of this Devhook thing. I miss playing Mario All-stars. I played it when i was running 2.0.

Thekinglotr
September 3rd, 2006, 02:50
Is there anyone that could make a quick guide or walk me through the process? I really don't want a paperweight.

Also where can I get an update from 2.6 to 2.71?

Edit: Another quick question, can you still use the web browser with devhook?

hmmm still having trouble with this thing... i think it may be because i only have a 2 gig memory stick. i got my psp on uk launch day so i know its compatible. i used the easy downgrade method. installed everything. went to the photo menu and the memory stick light either blinks or stays on and then i have to reset.

any help would be great... im not too fussed especially if fanjita gets an eloader up and running. the psx emu looks like it could be extremely good. depending on performance.

a certain site is posting this on this story:
# Will this work on 2.80?
Some commenters keep insisting that this works on the 2.80. Some commenters keep insisting that it will brick your 2.80 if you try it. A word of sanity: until the developer says that it works on 2.80, it's probably a bad idea to try it on a 2.80.

Sad sites that need more visitors will resort to any measure.

Worked like a charm :) I'm so glad that Xtrusion was swift with the release of the easy version of the dark_alex etc. 2.71 downdater. I can finally say I'm once again the proud owner of 1.5 firmware! :D After a whole mess of updating, downdating, losing PSP, buying another, updating and downdating again I can say this release was an incredible success and after my long, long wait I can finally dive back in to the PSP homebrew scene! Hopefully our bro's with TA-082's get their own solution soon, and best of luck to others that have 2.71 and have yet to downdate to 1.5.

I would do it. I was going to use GTA to downgrade my Uncles PSP but now I'm going to use this new method instead.

The bug caused premature bricking if the hack to force the unassign/assign of the flash failed.

Basically, now that this bug is fixed, the likelyhood of bricking your PSP is very slim. Especially if you take all the precautions suggested and make sure you follow all instructions.

I haven't updated, but you put the eboot in a folder called UPDATE, which is supposed to be inside GAME. ;)

Oh and yes, this version has LESS risks of bricking.

I have downgraded several PSP's and thinking I am an expert on the subject I jumped and tried to downgrade a friend's PSP 2.71 before I checked the board.
Guess what: He had a ta-082 board!

Luckily for me he had bought a warrantee at Best Buy and was able to replace his PSP.

Please make a sticky about the ta-082 motherboard so others who can not replace there PSP do not make the same mistake!

Always open the UMD compartment and make sure the following is not stamped on the right hand side of the board showing: IC003!

If you try to downgrade you will:

1. Make your PSP a $200 paper weight.
2. Able to use your PSP as an interactive Frisbee.
3. Give it to your dog as a chew toy.
4. Most importantly (If you are under 18) explain to your parents why your $200 Christmas/birthday present is not working and why you can not get it replaced!

If you bought your PSP from Best Buy there is a good chance you have this board. DO NOT try to DOWNGRADE before you read all files and do some research!

I know we know this but many Noobz don't!

I am not a Noob and have downgraded over 20 PSP's for friends and family. This is the first time I ran into this motherboard. I got sloppy and paid the price.

If this friend did not have a warrantee I would have had to fork out the money to buy him a new one!

We were all noobz once. Let's make sure they do not make this mistake!

True. I am just feeling really stupid about my mistake. I checked with my first few downgrades and just became too confident after that. I was starting to think this board was not released in the USA.
As everyone tells the Noobz "research research research"

EDIT: Oh right.. you didn't mean you wanted to make an emulator, merely set one up... my bad. To find out how to istall an emlator simply download an emu of your choice, a few ROMS (you can google these) and follow the instructions on the Readme that comes with the Emulator. This is the simplest technique to getting Emus to work.

I have restarted about 20 times after entering the photo menue. I have downloaded the link on the site.

I did reformat the stick before installing (2gb stick)
I did not have a umd in the system while performing the procedure
I did fullow the steps.

In my 20 attempts no red screen. I did have to take the batter out :eek: to restart it twice.

happyface
September 3rd, 2006, 18:47
taco, you probably mean eloader. It's a safer alternative than downgrading, but it's not out yet. You all have choices to downdate or wait for eloader people :)

EDIT: Shak bo, it does that sometimes. Just hard reset after 30 seconds of that, and then try again. The red screen will pop out eventually, and when it does JUST SIT THERE. Make sure the thing is plugged in to AC too

Yes you can. It should not matter what region your PSP is.

I coudln't find any non TA-082 PSPs in stores after I broke mine (a month ago). :(

There used to be away to check the LETTER under 120V on the side of the PSP box where all the barcodes are to determine what firmware was pre-installed. Has anyone identified how to tell from the outside of the box whether it would be a TA-082? I bet if you looked hard enough in enough stores that you could eventually find a 2.01, 2.50 or 2.60 non TA-082 $249.99 bundle pack.

as for how to tell the preinstalled firmware by lookin at the box (under 120v by barcode)
no letter= 1.5 (launch date bundle)
A= 1.5
B= 1.51
C= 1.52
D= 1.52
E= 1.52
F= 2.0
G= 2.01
H= 2.5

There is a simple tactic to avoiding buying a TA-082 PSP. Buy your PSP from a store that doesn't sell that many PSPs. Such as Target or... IKEA. Buying your PSP from a recently-stocked EB Games or GameStop will almost ensure your chances of getting a TA-082. BTW my PSP is PSP-1002K

Thanks to both of you for confirming that the letter K means a 2.60 NON TA-082 PSP. This will surely be helpful in the hunt to find downgradable PSP's in the store.

I plan on buying 2 or 3 more downgradable PSP's in the near future if I can hunt them down. Why you ask? Basically because eventually SONY is bound to find a way to make their firmware non-downgradable and once all of the downgradable PSP's are sold or upgraded, thats it. You will find people selling them on eBay for ridiculous amounts and once they are gone, they will be gone. The extra PSP's will be good for girlfriend and future children to be able to enjoy. Also, it would be wise to have a back-up in case your precious 1.50 malfunctions in some way.

Imagine 2 or 3 years down the road and you feel like whipping out your 1.50 for come classic NES or SNES retro gaming and for some reason it stops working.... That would send me into a major PANIC if I had no other spares. In 2-3 years it won't be as simple as just going to your local Wal-Mart to get a replacement. Hell, in 2-3 years you probably won't be able to find any USED 1.50 or downgradable PSP's at GameStop.

If you got bricked, that is a tragic loss. All losses of our 1.50 brethren create a great sadness. However, we cannot help you or others if you just say it is fake and leave it at that.

1. Provide us with EVERY detail. What did you download and from where?

2. Did you make sure your PSP was not a TA-082?

3. What did you witness your PSP doing when attempting to download.

4. What memory stick did you use? Size and brand.

Those and other details will be needed to diagnose what happened and prevent future 1.50 casualties. Please be more descriptive.

NO NO!!! dont downgrade!! if it is a ta-082 you run an extremely high risk of bricking your psp!
on your psp box you should see a white label that will be next to the POS BAR CODE. the white label should say UC2 in the top left corner and in the top right it should say just like this: PSP-1001 K
120V

i personally never heard of an ozzy psp...what is it like a special edition to ozzy osbourne? ummm...im not sure at all but if it is a 2.71 and as long as it is not the dreaded TA-082 motherboard then it might work but im not sure
