View Full Version : Can't return to 1.5 after using custom fw..

I've installed a custom fw which "supposedly" boots to 2.71 when you press L when you load and 1.5 if u don't..

But after i've installed it, when I boot my psp up there's just a black screen...

Sure it boots up to 2.71 all right but that defeats the purpose of having a 1.5 :'(

I've tried pretty much everything...the recovery mode (which doesn't work..or at least nothing happens when i boot my psp w/ R pressed), return to 1.5 homebrew (black screen again)...

so what is my problem??

ok this usually happens when u don't remove the previous CFW and install another one, did u have CFW before u tried using the one that's giving u problems?

also in recovery mode look for something that says "remove custom fw" or get Slasher's CFW unflasher, recovery modes the easier way though

no this was my first CFW... and i can't access the recovery mode at all...
Do i need a file or something on my mem stick?
Also i can't access 1.5 at all so i can't run the unflahser..

what version of devhook do you have, because if you downloaded v.46 then it should have come with a folder called something like "return from 2.xx to 1.50", that folder would be placed in the GAME folder and if you click it while in the emulated 2.71 it would return you yo 1.50 :)

he has done what mr shizzy did to his friend, parially bricked the psp, only solution mr shizzy found was to have autoboot set to irshell

(the only way to install custom firmware without this type of brick is to make sure your psp is at 100% charge and is plugged into the power , and if you are really unlucky you might still have a brick as it writes to the flash)

i have .46 and yes i've already tried that w/ pretty much no result lol..
i've tried to take an extreme measure of trying to update to 2.8 which i couldn't since i'm still emulating 2.71 :(

anybody knows what files u need for the recovery mode to work?

these are the threads mr shizzy started when he bricked his friend psp (except he used harleyG custom firmware nor DAX's POC custom firmware)
like i said before only solution he found was to autoboot irshell

have you also tried to install the plugin in the 2.71 folders that will let you return to 1.50 by pressing both home ans start?

motoko, he has messed up a crutial file on his nandflash, that is the reason it refuses to start up 1.5 no matter what he does, as for that plugin, all that does is restarts the psp (if you leave wlan down with harleyg custon firmware, it boots back into devhook, lol)

the recovery.elf file i believe it is, also do u have the v0.2 of harleyg's CFW...cuz if u do the wifi switch needs to be up for u to boot to 1.5, and did u use the 2.6>1.5 downgrader? and did u upgrade to 2.0 then downgrade to 1.5 with the MPH 2.0 downgrader, i'm wondering this cuz i heard the 1.5fw u get from downgrading is buggy and to obtain a "clean" 1.5 fw u need to upgrade to 2.0 and D/G using the 2.0 D/Ger

blazed, dont know where you got that info from,i downgraded then installed harleygs custom with no problem, only reason i degraded again was to get a european firmware rather than american (i thought mph's only worked with eboots though,so i was amazed i managed to do it with a UMD)

OOOO i see why mine's all messed up now x.x

I never updated to 2.0 and then downgraded back to 1.5....which is why i have this crippled fw mr shizzy is talking about...

@jak66: some people have had problems, some didn't...look at mr. shizzy's thread, it's cuz the fw the downgrader writes to ur flash has some bugs or is not "clean" but the 2.0 downgrader was known to give u that nice "clean" 1.5 fw

@shadow_link: yup

also quick question...didn't wanna read thru those threads :p...would running and update eboot thru IRshell work, cuz if u can do that then u can upgrade to 2.0(by putting the eboot in ur an UPDATE folder in ur GAME folder

sorry if this has been suggested in those threads it's wayyy to late for me to read thru all of the posts :)

M!ckeY

no problem and since i'm curious as to if this would work i'm gunna try it out :D

ok tried it out, IRshell's not gunna load it, i get an error

M!ckeY
September 4th, 2006, 09:45
now that i think about it, IRshell doesn't seem to run any 1.0 format eboots, they have to be in 1.50 format

September 4th, 2006, 09:47
hmmm so i wonder if i kxploited it?

BL4Z3D247
September 4th, 2006, 09:55

September 4th, 2006, 10:15
wait one more idea...i don't have time to test but, what if u put Slasher's CFW unflasher on ur psp and tried to open it thru IRshell, then u can unflash ur psp and bam u got ur regular 1.5 psp back

shadow_link
September 4th, 2006, 10:23
I'll test all these as soon as I get my psp back :)

I hope the unflasher doesn't completely brick my psp lol

no it's safe, just plug ur adapter into ur psp and make sure it has over 50% battery(i recomend 100%, i'm safe rather than sorry :D)...i used it once to take the POC(Dark_Alex's) CFW off to put harleyg's v0.2 on
