2.81 firmware coming soon

Looks like Sony's ready to counterattack against that libtiff exploit that's been so helpful to homebrewers over the past few days. The European PSP site has revealed text suggesting the impending release of firmware version 2.81. Most likely, it won't include any new functionality. However, I hope Sony will prepare a downloadable demo to coax us into upgrading, just because free game demos are always yummy.

What they'll do is they'll say its a security update and is of benefit to anyone who likes to 'prevent your PSP from being hacked if online' or something!!

At least that way they can shut out some percentage of the population from the recent possibility of homebrew.

Sony FW updates really suck. Is this same thing going to happen with the PS3? Does anyone know if there is a list of all PSP games and what FW the need. I noticed the new LocoRoco in Wal-mart today. Does that use 2.71 or 2.8?

Sony can't win. They're bound to make blunders, no matter what firmware they distribute, enabling the homebrew community to exploit unforseen exploitables. I almost feel sorry for old Sony, but, of course, the hombrew community is the real underdog. Go team!

Yeah, throw in a measly demo or 2 and I guess that would make it worth upgrading my 1.50 - YEAH RIGHT!

Nice try $ONY! I wonder how many people will actually fall for this tactic? This proves again that SONY is quick to patch any possibilty of homebrew on the PSP. For this reason I think maybe it might be better for future hacks/exploits to wait until the big "3.0" firmware is released. But then there are those on the other side of the debate that feel that Sony's firmware patches only strengthen hackers' resolve.

I don't know what the future holds but it is clear the war rages on...

Yes! This is true. Dark_AleX, hero of PSP homebrew has defeated 2.80 firmware. What is the significance of this? This could mean a possible 2.80 DevHook and the killer upcoming games that will likely require 2.80 firmware at some point should be playable on 1.50 PSP's in the near future.

This is a great time for PSP homebrew with no slowdown in sight. NOBODY upgrade to 2.80 or 2.81 firmware. Join the 1.50 ranks!

Why you should never upgrade--You can do anything on a 1.50 firmware pretty much. Notice how some apps are only made 1.50? And why the hell would you wanna upgrade when you could in the future get that firmware on your 1.50 and just emulate it. Your a retard if you upgrade. I will laugh at those of you who upgrade and get your precise psone emulator. I will be the patient one who in a month or 2 is loading that firmware up on devhook and keeping my 1.50 as well and playing all the new games and game demos too. This firmware update will be like 1.51 and 1.52 ----Stupid and pointless.

You must understand that sony does not mind homebrew, they mind the people who make brew that do lead to piracy and other illegal mumbo jumbo like Devhook. I do not think sony would mind a home made game like Solitaire LoL, but they would mind Downgraders and stuff like Emulators off other people like Nintendo! Personally I do not blame sony for doing what they do if they are losing money if they don't, but I do mind their lame ass prices! So to hell with them 1.5 FOREBER!!

YES....I am one of those fools who upgraded to 2.8, didn't really understand the potential of Homebrew and thought the downloadable demo's was a good idea, until I played the soccer game which is crap...really didn't realise you could run things like Day of the tentacle and other lucas arts games, I would love to run them on my PSP....but I'm 2.8

Maybe someone might buy my 2.8 so I can get a 2.71 or below...feel such a twit...

But there is absolutely no way I am going to upgrade ever again, unless there is not a 2.8 downgrader in the next couple of weeks I shall sell up...
