PSP Firmware v2.8 Decrypted!

Dark Alex has released a Decryptor for the latest PSP firmware, heres what he posted:


How was it done? :

The keys have been extracted from the ram that could be dumped in 2.80 using the tiff exploit.

How to use:

You need : 1.00 or 1.50 firmware.
extract the data.psar from the 2.80 update eboot and put at the root of your memory stick.
Run the 2.80 psardumper mod and that's it !

I added support to psar dumper to decrypt 2.80.
Decryption could be done thanks to rest of kernel stuff in the 2.80 user ram.

Hopefully this is put in devhooks next release. But i havn't heard to much from his work with dev hook when sony nailed him for that stupid thing.

I'm pretty sure that something about RSS video was implemented. You can download it but I'm not sure if it can be played. Also just the fact that it was decrypted gives us even more confidence going into the 3.XX days. I cannot wait for a 3.XX firmware to be decrypted.

If you, say, have a 2.60 TA-082 PSP and use the firmware dump method described here, could you use 2.80 (emulated) without updating your PSP?

No, there are a few other additions to the 2.80 firmware. My favorite feature of 2.80 firmware is being able to play Videos stored in the VIDEO folder. No more MP_ROOT folder with wierd filenames like MAQ12345.mp4.

I would very much welcome 2.80 firmware emulation and I hope Booster re-emerges after SONY's cease and desist to give us a 2.80 enabled DevHook.

Also, this may be the only way for us 1.50 firmware users to play upcoming 2.80 required games.

as much as a great guy booster is, with the source code to dh released, hes kinda out of the picture. any coder with a brain, not me, could make the tiny alterations to allow devhook to run 2.8

Booster I hope you read these posts i still have full faith. I just got back from my first day at college and this is such great news! (However i had the 2.80 firmware decrypted like a week ago. . .)

hey metaphorically-couldnt we just dump this 2.80 firmware into the "200" folder and just launch it from an older firmware? I heard that that works and did with 2.50 before that devhook version was released or whatnot.

i tried it using the 2.00 selection, i think everything was in the right place ipl files in the psp root/dh/ipl folder, font in flash 0 along with the vsh folder and all in there, i checked using the 2.71 firmware to check the placement of things and it all clicked to me when i booted it up i didnt brick my psp or anything so it probably wont do that to you guys give it a whirl i still think its possible try it with 2.71 firmware in the devhook .46 menu thats the best bet because that encryption is obviously the closest thing to 2.80

I don´t think that´s going to work. Booster has got to tweak it first. But don´t worry. No rush. There´s no games that require 2.8 right now.
As soon as we need 2.8, we´ll have it emulated on devhook. Trust me;)

ya cuz as it is, 2.71 is buggy as it is when booting up w/ a umd in the drive....tweaks are definatly needed.

but im still curious, has anyone tried replacing the 271 contents w/ the 2.80 dump in the dh folder?

wow this is good news now all we have to do is wait for a devhook update so we can emulate 2.8 iv been waiting for this one bcause there are a few games i want and i kinda think they woll need 2.8 to be played on my psp well now that its been decrypted i have to sit here and wait for a devhook update but good work on this

Well im at work now but just went to mi second favorite web. And saw they have something relating it working by devhook as a new version. So i will check in the morning. But this guys are legit and if so its a great thing. They where some of the guys who first release a full version of .46. All i can sai its a spaish site.

The majority of users have a working 1.5 downgrader, a new GTA free eloader and soon we can emulate the latest firmware with good old devhook!

WOW! It is true. Apparently Dark_AleX has FULLY decrypted 2.81 as well. This proves that 2.81 was a response to the new .tiff exploit and not a countermeasure against DevHook.
