No rules about copyright material?

I was suprised to read (or not read, in this case) that there are no rules about using copyrighted material. Are remakes allowed?

I've been working on getting the CarBomb game from Sam & Max ported to the Genesis, and was thinking of using that.

But, I'll have to choose another idea.

well it doesnt have any copyrighted material its a game i am making by myself i have release v1 before but i really want to enter this compo
