The xenoGC modchip for GameCube was released right before Christmas back in December 2005 (launch news here (http://www.eurasia.nu/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1397)). This chip had a unique hardware design which directly interfaced with the serial debug port on the laser unit. The xenoGC was a huge success because it works really well and the only alternatives for GameCube at the time were the relatively expensive 'BIOS based modchips' like qoob and Viper.
