Update: Virtuous Flame and Coldbird’s CFW 6.35 Pro-B has been released

2 days ago, developer coldbird sent a very strong message on his blog regarding the future of 6.35 Pro, a (Light) Custom Firmware developed by himself and Virtuous Flame. In a blog post packed with information, Coldbird announced 2 major points:

6.35 Pro-B is close to completion, and will support PSX games (the real deal)
Plans for Pro-C are already being made, and this will be the last closed source release of the 6.35 Pro CFW
Releases after Pro-C will be open source, and Coldbird announced this open source project might enter the PSP Genesis competition
You’d rather read Coldbird’s entry by yourselves, but there’s a strong message here that the PSP scene should go back to joining forces, share knowledge, in order to build a strong CFW experience, to make the PSP better even after it will have been long forgotten by Sony and the NGP.
There’s also some bitterness in Coldbird’s post, but overall this sounds to me like a very promising future for our console. Open source CFW? The last time this happened was so long ago most of you probably don’t even know this ever happened. As one of the devs of the first open source Homebrew loader for the PSP, I can only applause this initiative.
Version Pro-B is not there yet, and coldbird’s blog post talks about version C and beyond that…things might change until this happens, but let’s hope for the best, and let me wish luck to the 6.35 Pro team http://wololo.net/wagic/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Well I've just had some fun updating to 6.35. I was on Prometeus and downloaded the 6.35 update, I went to install 6.35 and my PSP was telling me I was on 9.90 fw. After a little search I found that I had to change my version.txt file. Here's how I did it,

From the XMB, press select once, this pulls up the VSH menu

Select USB Device > Press the right d button till you see flash0

Then press select again.

Go to your USB connection like normal

When in the USB connection, on your PC,

Click vsh > etc

Then open the version.txt in a text editor. Adjust the top line to read 5.50

Save it and exit.

Then on the PSP again, press select, make usb device > Memory Stick

Then, you should be able to apply the 6.35 update

Hope this helps.

Yeah, man. It took me a bit to find that as well, but it's out there on google somewhere.
635PRO is almost perfect. All it really needs is permanency, without the need for the 'fast recovery' app.

Agreed. it's a nice step in the right direction to install extra/modified files to flash0 and such, but really it's still jerry rigged until there's a way to force it full time. Especially to those on "unhackable" PSPs.

I got this on my Go. I just beat Tomba! 1 in a day with 100%, and I'm glad we have PSX support. :D

Hi guys,..
Coldbird also clarified some issues regarding the use of the Fast Recovery, in which he clearly stated "is not a recovery menu" but simply a "fast launcher for people who already have installed the CFW using the Updater.”
