The only way to stop piracy is to cut prices (http://www.thinq.co.uk/2011/3/15/cutting-prices-only-way-stop-piracy/). That's the verdict of a major new academic study that reckons copyright theft won't be halted by 'three strikes' broadband disconnections, increasing censorship or draconian new laws brought in under the anti-counterfeiting treaty ACTA. The Media Piracy Project, published last week by the Social Science Research Council, reports that illegal copying of movies, music, video games and software is 'better described as a global pricing problem' — and the only way to tackle it is for copyright holders to charge consumers less money for their wares."http://yro.slashdot.org/story/11/03/15/198235/Cutting-Prices-Is-the-Only-Way-To-Stop-Piracy

I agree with the notion that 'piracy' is unfortunately not going anywhere.
But piracy!== missed revenue. Only those serious about the game will buy it in any case. Those can't afford it won't even bother to steal it if it means nullifying the console that utilizes it. Enforced incentives (xbox 360)(not POS PSN) seems to be a silver bullet that rarely misses.

I've been afraid that harsher DRM will shut down the used video game racket, which much like the used CD racket is the only way brick and mortars make any substantial profit.

Lowering prices is just going to further suppress earnings for the copyright holders.

Draconian laws and unreal ISP requirements are just going to give way to a new form or new loophole. And ultimately leach money from both the copyright holder and the infringer.

P.S. --- What infringer has 5,000,000.00 in lifetime earnings and can't afford a better lawyer to beat the case?
