Graf-chokolo announced on his blog that he was able to successfully install Gentoo Linux on the internal HDD of the PS3 Slim.

The famous hacker was able to make this business after increasing the size of the "VFlash" of the PS3 Slim (area of the hard disk for installing the firmware and thus not affected by formatting the hard drive) of 256 MW (at normal state) to 40 GO! The increase in this space then allowed him to install a Gentoo Linux distribution. He says that future users can exploit its format their HDD without losing Linux.

Next steps:

- Compile petitboot for the PS3.
- Install the petitboot VFlash.
- Create a CFW HV able to boot the OS or Petitboot Game. Petitboot can run Linux (or Other OS) from the HDD, VFlash, USB, CDROM or NFS (as all-makes the old firmware 3.15 or Graf-chokolo its PS3 3.41).
- Create a more easy (user friendly) to install Linux on the internal HDD.

Pending that, you can retrieve ps3stor-utils and Linux ps3stormgr device manager, allowing you to create or delete regions of storage on PS3 Linux. They were used to create the new region VFlash to accommodate Linux.

Here is an overview of Linux partitions on the new VFlash:
