The hacker who settled with Sony (http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/04/11/1637210/Sonys-Case-Against-Geohot-Has-Been-Settled) after the company sued him for modifying his PlayStation 3 console is getting a lot of flak fornot taking the fight further (http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/133343/20110412/hackers-rip-geohot-for-sony-settlement.htm). 'Night Breed' [wrote], 'So basically you settled for a job and took people's money, giving them a false hope of settling for their rights? What do you plan to do with the money that was donated to you to provide a cushion for the legal battle? I hope you will be paying all those people back since you obviously didn't live up to your word (http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/02/20/1952250/GeoHot-Asks-For-Donations-To-Fight-Sony).'"http://games.slashdot.org/story/11/04/12/1425257/Fellow-Hackers-Blast-Geohot-For-Sony-Settlement

I think it was his legal defense that allowed him to settle this way. I am glad it's over. The case seem to boil down to did Geo hot accept the PSN T&A. Kind of flimsy for all that PR. The only thing I even cared about was him being hung out dry for every case of piracy back to the C64. Remember the kid who got sued by the RIAA for a few million for creating a search engine that had crawlers that among other things specifically hunted out MP3s on the internet. I wish that kid could have afforded better representation.

All and all I think the both hobbyists and companies learned something positive way down beneath the PR.
