Hi all!

It seems the PSP scene has moved on a loooong way from when I last looked at it. I've dusted down my PSP-2000 and I'm looking to get a more up-to-date firmware on it than the current OFW 3.80 M33. However, everywhere I look I just get confused -- there are tons of firmware versions to choose from, plus they all seem to have different optional patches and some of them require flashing of intermediate versions to avoid bricking the device. I don't have easy access to a Pandora so I don't particularly want to do that if I can avoid it.

Can anyone who knows more than me (all of you, basically) help a n00b out?

Reading around, I think it seems I need:

550GEN-D3 (CFW)
Prometheus v.4 (add-on for newer ISOs)
PSNLover (add-on to make PSN work)

And it looks like in order to put 550GEN on, though, I'm going to need to flash to 5.00 M33 first and then 5.00 M33-6 after that. Does that sound right?

I suggest using a PRO cfw like 6.20-6.39 PRO-B8.

You can access PSN w/o a plugin and play all the current games w/o a problem.

OK, for anyone who finds this thread when googling in the future, I installed (in this order):

5.00 M33 from http://www.atmaxplorer.com/2008/10/psp-custom-firmware-500-m33-is-released/
5.50 D3 from http://www.atmaxplorer.com/2009/12/install-psp-custom-firmware-5-50-gen-d3/
Prometheus-4 from http://www.atmaxplorer.com/2010/12/prometheus-4-for-5-00-m33-5-03-gen-c-and-5-50-gen-d3/
PSNLover from http://psp.dashhacks.com/file/1922, install instructions http://forums.consoleaddicted.com/Thread-How-to-install-PSNLover

For now, I think that gets me where I want to be. What are the advantages to the newer 6.xx CFWs?

You can access PSN w/o a plugin and play all the current games w/o a problem.OK, so if I want to do this, how do I go about it? (Just confirmed that PSN doesn't work for me; I can get into the store but it throws me back out with "update required") From what I'm reading, I actually flash the PSP back to the OFW then run the installer from the memory stick, right? I have a PSP-2000 TA-085.

(Again, I don't have a Pandora to hand, so I don't particularly want to brick the system or end up stuck on a OFW. I suppose I should probably make my current battery into a Pandora, really.)
