Apparently according to reports sent to us the next version of Devhook will feature support for firmware 2.80. Great news for those with the firmware v1.5 PSP who like to play the latest UMD Games on their PSP.

not 2.81?

I wanted to look at 2.81 and see which file lifted the 4 gb cap on the MS drive

PLUS. 2.81 is decrypted and I'd just rather have the newer one for some crazy reason

Dont worry, 2.80 and 2.81 use the same Reboot.bin traits, including the new security, if 2.80 is possible, then 2.81 will be aswell.

OT: I didnt know you came to DCEMU :p

Welcome to the dcemu forums Monkey boy  enjoying that N64 emulator lolololol =P

Well seriously this sounds great, now I can go purchase (when it comes out of course) GTA VCS. But how much you want to bet, once this firmware gets emulated we are going to see firmware 2.82/2.9 come out. Or who knows SONY might just say *screw it* and wait till November for they can release their 3.0 firmware which will be jacked up on security =[

Nope, All of the games released and will be released in September will be no higher than 2.71. So we should be good for a little while as far as commercial gaming is concerned.

Of course next release will not support iso's! Just UMD's according to the reports lol!
Really? That would suck. While I don't condone sending the PSP the way of the Dreamcast via mass piracy, I would prefer DevHook to stay FULL featured rather than limited.

For those of you rooting for an ISO version who gives a crode? The only real reason I would ever use an ISO is to try out a game, games aren't too expensive. I'd rather save a good 600MB on my mem stick then waste that space with homebrew, music, or videos (if i go on a trip or something) Plus, i just got a new kickass laptop so i have plenty of gaming fun on that too! ex-50 cent bulletproof, i was going to buy it because i heart 50 but i downloaded and hated it i mean seriously guys why throw down 40 USD if the game stinks and waste your time going into a store, etc etc?

Anywho though, what did I say? Booster/mystery user working on it (wink) would not let us down.

Devhook = Forever

and Nikolaos-I 100% agree with you, news has been lagging lately

Don't talk shit.
1) Booster packs his files into LZH format, not ZIP
2) If it was real, it would be called devhook047_0000.lzh or similar.
3) Booster wouldn't give his binaries to anyone apart from Dark_AleX and Mathieulh.
4) It's not even finished yet

There is a need for an ISO loader, regardless what people think. The ISO loader cuts down tremendously on loading time. I much rather dump a game to my mem card and play it that way then wait through all of the load times.

Not everything has a pirating reason.

And where you get the info that it will not load isos. The news says UMD because that what they use it for, no that it will "only" load UMD.

chrisrulz555
September 15th, 2006, 21:53
I notice that alot of people around DCEMU are very iso conscious, if they are mentioned you can get warned/suspended... ever heard of freedom of speech? Anyway my main point is that you mainly buy a handheld gaming console for playing games on the go, how are you supposed to play games on the go when you have to wait for f**king y's ark of naptishim to load for ten minutes? Iso cuts it down to about 5 seconds so there is a need for it. Hopefully PSP2 will support a better format than the turtoise UMD.

I tried it out, and it look's like it is an unofficial version (it say's DevHook .46). I didn't mean to look like a smug Jackass, I just ment to say that I may have it. I still haven't tested it out, because, I only have a 32 MB Memory Stick, and I don't have enough room to dump the 2.80 firmware. So maybe I'll just send one of you the file that I think is it. You can ask Stotheamuel about it, because he originally gave it to me. So you can ask him, if it's real or not.

On Topic though: I have enjoyed the use of DevHook over the last 3 or 4 months since I was recommended it. Thanks to Booster, Dark alex and the rest of the team!

I hope that Devhook .47 will contain the iso loader. Just because of a few things... Most people like myself only copy games that we own. I own every single game that I have and iso (cso now really) for. Secondly, most people who own a psp dont even know how to use it. My friends wouldnt know about homebrew if I didnt live here, and my other friend dosent know that u need to update to play madden =P

Most people cant ever work this thing, so you expect them to pirate? I am sure there is some turd out there who is pirating and I agree he should be shot but because he dose it dosent mean that everyone who backs up a game is going to put it on the inernet. I also think that devhook should do 2.81 instead and just take sony out now =P

as for devhoo .46 I have had problems with the internet and not being able to play ad hac and over the net. This only works on newer games like lego star wars. Twisted metal worked fine. Tho the internet isnt working ether =(

Anyway I wish good luck to the peeps working on devhook and I cant wait to download it

Yes, I don't see what the big deal with ISO's is. They make the PSP more convenient, efficient, and portable. Also, sure if you are familiar with how to install and use DevHook it is not too hard but picture a 1st time PSP homebrewer trying to install and run DevHook. Its no easy task and many are intimidated and don't even bother.

ISO's don't always mean piracy. When/IF a homebrew PS1 EMU is released that plays ISO's it will be the talk of the town on this forum. So what makes PS1 ISO's more acceptable than PSP ISO's? I don't get it.

I agree. I bought monster hunter portable and I play it from my memory stick (I still own the UMD) so I don't have to wait a whole minute in loading time every time I change from one area to the next. All of my friends are jealous of how much faster I can get to the areas with the monsters. I can run 3 areas in the time it takes them to run an area and a half.

I don't think I could spend so much time playing if half of the time was spent on load screens. Sony needs to find a solution to that, and not rely on booster to do it for them.

September 16th, 2006, 13:55
In response to your message about ISO loaders.. they are also useful if you modify parts of a game... I for one developed a simple aimbot for Battlefront II which was a good learning process and was great to trick my friends with :p

So true, because i've seen the load times are they are horrid. Personally i dont see why ppl get so flabbergasted about ISO's. They help in load times and all. Who cares about pirating anyway most ppl do it cause they cant afford to pay 40$ for a game that they probably wont play that much, and is usually a downgraded version of a console game that costs almost the same, and thats like paying the same for less to me, but i still buy it anyway cause i have the money. PSP is a handheld console and stuff i dont expect fantastic gaming, and look at the DS prices compared to the PSP prices... I know all of u who know alot about computers and stuff have pirated at one time or another just for convenience. I personally would'nt pirate a game because i respect the programmers, BUT i know alot of ppl who just dont have the money.

I believe you can run Vice City Stories just fine using 2.71 SE-B''. I don't have it myself, so I can't confirm it.

Regarding ISOs, I'm starting to get interested simply because all my UMD cases have become damaged from using a gameware UMD wallet that didn't give them adequate protection.
