The 2.71 is safe. Only TA-082 motherboard PSPs can't downgrade, but otherwise it'll work.

After doing the downgrade, it is recommended upgrading to 2.0 then back to 1.5 to remove the bugs reported by the 1.5 provided during the first downgrade.

Have waited for ages to downgrade from 2.01 to 1.5
always worried with the what if??
Upgraded to 2.71 then used "Downgrader2.71FULL"
working 1.5 in less than ten minutes at first attempt.
I say go ahead
Going to get homebrew now and enjoy what others have had for ages

Nope, met every requirement, did it exactly like I did with my own psp and bam! paper weight. All it does now is switch on after about 15 seconds switch off.

I've downgraded 10 PSP's at least and never bricked yet. It really pays to read and re-read instructions.

dude, everyone has the worry of bricking their PSP when they downgrade. Yo have to make the decision yourself. There is loads of helpful tutorials here on PSP-News.

note: I downgraded from 2.6 to 1.5 with ease, but had the same worry as you and everyone else.

You must not have followed the directions correctly. Maybe you used the old unstable version?

Can someone post a link to the new stable downgrader? I want to downgrade but if there is a newer, more stable ver. of it, I want to use that one obviously.

awesome, I downgraded my PSP yesterday, too... about an hour after you :)... I'm having trouble finding good homebrew tho so im looking around all these homebrew sites... I want some standalone games of tetris/sudoku/mario/etc that I can start up directly from the game folder but all the cool games need a eloader (whatever that is) :(

And to everyone who keeps saying you can't brick the PSP if you follow the directions correctly: you're wrong it even says in the downgrader readme and on sites that have the file that any file that modifies the flash0 of the PSP has some risk of bricking... some noob might read what you were saying and think there's no risks and brick their PSP, and they should at least know there's a chance it might happen.

Welcome to 1.5! :)
And no, you won't need an eLoader for ANYTHING on 1.5. Here's a page with a bunch of cool emulators and applications for 1.5! :)
