A new patent suggests Microsoft is working on a new Windows Phone model that features gaming controls.
The patent, filed with the USPTO (http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220110230178%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20110230178&RS=DN/20110230178) and spotted byMobile Mag (http://www.mobilemag.com/2011/09/24/modular-windows-phone-7-slider-patented-by-microsoft/) (via SPOnG (http://spong.com/article/25410/Revealed-Microsofts-Handheld-Gaming-Bet)), shows designs for a slider phone similar to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
The patent reveals an empty slot in the slide-out portion of the phone in which you can place various parts. According to the patent image, below, one of these is a gaming controller, which includes face buttons and what looks like a thumb nub.
The Xperia Play, the word's first PlayStation Certified smartphone, launched in April. It runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and features a number of PS one Classics and exclusive titles.
