Ubisoft officially announced today that the Wii version of its jungle first-person shooter will now go under the name Far Cry Vengeance and be a Wii launch title.

The game is heavily based on the Xbox's Far Cry Evolution, although the company promises to expand on the experience with a new storyline, new maps and new weapons, whilst of course taking full advantage of the Wii-mote.

Ubisoft gave us a run down of features to be expected from this new version:

Wii Unleashed - Dig deeper into the power of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk through survival tactics that include driving, shooting, jumping, balancing, climbing, grenading, and Far Cry's ever-popular Feral attacking.

Weapons - Choose from a variety of weapons in a struggle to endure the rebel-infested jungle. Take down an unsuspecting victim from behind with a machete or meet the fight head-on with your machine gun.

Vehicles - From ATVs to hovercrafts, pickup trucks to Jet Skis, drive over, around, and through vicious combat situations.

Interactive Environments - Utilize the lush, tropical surroundings to your advantage, using stealth to sneak through the foliage past unsuspecting rebels.

Unleash the Wrath - Feel what its like to be the predator, not the prey, as you unleash the beast within. Jump higher, run faster, and slash with more fury than all of your enemies combined through the animalistic feral abilities unique to the Far Cry series.

Multiplayer - Challenge your friends in Far Cry: Vengeance's frenetic Chaos mode as you battle to be the last person standing.

This is all well and good, but to be honest judging from these two screenshots, things don't look particularly improved from the Xbox version.

We'll let you know more when we get to playtest the game.

Yet another port with slight changes. They've totally destroyed Far Cry from what it should be now. Make this game extinct already.

Shader models are part of DirectX.

Shader models make the game look realistic.

When no shader model is used then the game will look like a colorful arcade game, just like dreamcast games.

Wii has no DirectX, so it has no shader model at all.

Look how different Far Cry looks on the original Xbox compared to the Wii screens;

Look... the Wii has shaders. Nearly every wii game uses them. Red steel, Mario, Metroid etc.

Look, its the developer making excuses... because they went bothered to add the shader.
