View Full Version : Which Next gen console Will be the Next Big Homebrew Arena

DCEmu is here to provide the latest news and downloads from so many homebrew scenes even after they seem to die, but homebrew never dies because with the release and hacking of each new console, the homebrew released on early consoles can be played on the new consoles so that the scene recycles itself.

For over 10 years now ive been a follower of emulation and homebrew and witnessed many of the greates releases in emulation and homebrew and in that time made many friends inc some of the most gifted amateur coders and communitys second to none.

In that time ive seen the scenes for every console rise and demise, the main 3 consoles for homebrew at the moment are Nintendo DS, PSP and GP2X but will they be soon with the new consoles around the corner.

The Xbox360 could very soon see the first homebrew release and the release of the Wii and PS3 soon its going to be extremely exciting.

An homebrew scene that requires no modchips will always be popular but who knows what the hackers will be able to do to get brew working.

So Will the new next gen consoles take over or will the current consoles still rule the homebrew waves.

i dont really kno but i hope it will be the xbox portable, but they are going to take SO MANY safety precautions because they saw what happened to psp and to xbox, its going to take a VERY talented hacker/coder to crack it, same goes to xbox 360 and ps3

Who knows there would probably be firmware updates for the PS3 :p, It'd be nice if the Wii was a good homebrew device though

You have named portable systems, but look how long the Dreamcast has lasted for homebrew, and the Xbox (non360) had a really strong start, has has mostly PC equivalant emus on it, and is easy to hack with the soft mod. So, I think the current systems might just last, and ps2 homebrew pretty much sucks ....

Why does anyone need to 'hack' PS3? We know for a fact that PS3 is shipping with Linux...

PS3 hands down because we will be allowed to homebrew for it.

I would say the Xbox 360 has the highest chance of being the next homebrew-bound console. I don't honestly think the PS3 will be because Sony are and have always been against homebrew and as we see with the PSP, they havn't given up. Also, I am getting a Wii and yes, the Wii will do better than the PS3.

Well, the XBOX 360 is now supporting homebrew kits (for a fee) so there might be some pretty neat stuff around the corner as far as that is concerned.

But I would like to see the PS3 dominate when it comes to homebrew because the PSP homebrew scene is so strong and it would be great to have the PSP tie into the PS3 homebrew interoperability.

I really hope homebrew is possible on the Wii (I actually like the name BTW) because I have some reallY fun ideas. Um, isnt the 360 allowing homebrew now or something?

PS3 ...but there definetly will be FW updates required just like the PSP. It is supposed to have a simular menu system.

Y'know, I myself have no intentions of buying next-generation consoles, because I'm a PC and portability kind of guy, and I don't have enough time to kill on consoles.
But, nobody wants to hear my stupid opinion. I certainly don't want to hear anyone else's when it's pointless.
So, to be on topic: DEFINITELY the console that presents itself with the most open and easy homebrewing. Everyone might have fantasies that the console they want to buy will be the homebrew king, but you know the mastery of homebrew will be so limited to just one because only one will end up making it extremely possible.

Definitly the PS3,Sony has already stated it will support homebrew.
Besides it has Linux, just like with any other distro of Linux you should be able to install whatever you want.No exploitation needed.

Guy's, Sony has supported homebrew. They just don't like piracy.

They have always been against homebrew ON THE PSP. Anyone recall the Linux HD, keyboard and mouse bundle for PS2? Yeah that was made FOR HOMEBREW.

X360 hasn't even been hacked yet, after a year. Chances are, its not going to be, not without the aid of a mod chip.

PS3 will dominate the homebrew scene and with the PSP homebrew + PS3 homebrew, the other consoles will have a hell of a time trying to get their ass outta the water (at least as far as homebrew is concerned).

I agree F9zDark,I think the only reason they're against the homebrew on psp is because of the piracy.Let us not forget how quick the loaders came out.
Let us not forget the Yarozee either.

Curious: Between the original XBOX and the PS2, which has the most working Emulators for it? Does anyone have any idea?

xbox360 of course
its already hacked,so its a matter of time for the mass emulators to come on it

I think, that the price, and the special hardware, would make a very cool platform for homebrew.

and to NJisMYhome:
If MS ever release a XBOX-portable, i actually think that it will be supporting homebrew.

I read that Bill Gates actually think that some of the apps, that are created by HB-devīs are quiet interesting.
It doesnīt mean that it will support homebrew, but just take a look at the 360!:)

the only thing sony will block is iso usage.... everyone who says.... sony ps3 because itll have flaws or because the psp will be hackable

there is no need to hack

It HAS linux

and why would sony block anything but iso loaders...(would it be an iso??? is blu ray going to be a different file?)

Sony definatly will "idly sit by" while all of its ps3 owners play backed up nes-gamecube (:p) games on the ps3 someday... itll kill the virtual console program
