View Full Version : Devhook Launcher Port to 2.71 - (Run V1.5 Homebrew on PSP 2.71)

Dark Alex is back and he has ported Devhook to v2.71 Firmware, so now you can play V1.5 Homebrew on the higher firmware, heres the news from Dark Alex:

Port of devhook (by Booster) launcher to 2.71 by Dark_AleX.

Only the launcher needed to be ported, since the core prx (devhook.prx) loads fine in hen revision (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36913)B.

The included version of devhook is 0.45, since 0.46 seems to have problems in emulating 1.50 (this also happens in 1.50)
If you want to use 0.46, you can overwrite the files in the dh folder.

There is no currently firmware installer, so you'll have to get the files for firmwares "magically" :P

Todo:

- 2.71 direct flash (no ms emulation).
Currently not available, because devhook msreboot.bin destroys the "unsign check" that reboot.bin does to the files of flash.

- Port the installer to 2.71

Instructions

- You need Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 revision B (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36913) (minimum) to run this port.
- Get the files to emulate firmwares yourself.
- Run the pbp with the title "Devhook 0.4X launcher for 2.71". The 1.50 launcher is also included because in the emulated 1.50 you can launch it.

Note: only 1.50 and 2.71 have been tested.
When going from firmware 2.71 to 1.50, you will get the error "Couldn't start game".
Don't worry, this is normal and it is done in purpose as a current temporal solution for reboot.bin parameters being differents in both firmwares.

To all those on v2.71, you now have the chance to use v1.5 homebrew :) welcome.

as with all Devhook releases and anything involving the flash this could brick your console, use extreme caution. Your on your own basically

just run the hen b proggy with the tiff eloader, then run the port of devhook for 2.71, then select 1.5 fw and then select start and the 1.5 XMB should pop up then u can run anything a 1.5 could run...even IRShell :D

This can't brick your PSP. It doesn't access the flash.

This can't brick your PSP. It doesn't access the flash.
This may not, but hombrew launcher that you need to run this does, but only a very tiny amount of files so Brick-ability is relatively null.

I got this running on my TA-082 2.71 PSP.

Devhook launcher does get Devhook to run, and Devhook will start 1.50. But nothing runs in 1.50. No homebrewk runs and *ahem* other stuff doesn't run either.

This might be nice when it's finished.

This is great news for all the 2.71 users out there, I wonder whats going to happen though when a game comes out that requires 2.8+ firmware? Will you guys need 2 different devhooks, one to play your 1.5 genesis, snes roms and one to play your umd games?

Just a thought.. but great news for all Ta-082 users!!!

There is no point upgrading, The background issue is solved by Theme PSP and all this does is gives 2.71 users the ability to use 1.5.

Got it running. You need to find a copy of Devhook .45 with all teh firmwares, I'd suggest a torrent site.

Got it to run DGEN 1.70 on my TA-082 2.71 PSP. Also got it to run *ahem* other things using the loader built into Devhook.

Now if only the HEN wasn't such a pain in the ass to get running. - a few notes on that. The HEN runs more often (for me, anyway) if you use a custom wallpaper, as opposed to the PSP XMB backgound.

Unless this is devhook with homebrew enabled.. meaning when i launch devhook from my 1.5 xmb, it not only loads the umd and whatever but afterwards when i hit home, i get to 2.71 xmb and move to the game menu and find all the 1.5 homebrew game icons too. and they work, with no corrupt icons.

the 1.50 fw dump goes in the dh folder in the 150 and you dont do inything withe the src folder just leave it there

This TA-82er is not having very much fun :( It takes me about 20 tries just to get Hen to show the blue screen, and finally when it does, it then shuts off the psp instead of restarting the xmb. I got the green screen the very first time I ran it, and it did the same thing, didn’t restart the xmb. Any body have any suggestions?

It seems it works with many TA-82's, but it doesn't for mine. The problem for mine is the Tiff file won't load, although some people say it loads for them after 5-15 times of rebooting. And, to load devhook, you'll have to first load the HEN file (which can take too many tries), and then devhook may not even work...ERG. Most people are luckier than me though, as I have NOTHING working with my TA-82. Oh well, hopefully it will be released later, being more stable next time.

so many questions...so many doubts...so much time to think about it :p

The TIFF and GTA .99 eloaders are fully compatible with 2.71 currently. So there's absolutely no reason for anyone on 2.60 NOT to upgrade to 2.71, TA-082 or otherwise.

Then once you upgrad to 2.71, you'll still have all your TIFF and GTA eloader homebrew stuff, you'll be able to run flash, AND you can load up the HEN and the Devhook launcher and run all the stuff that WON'T run on the TIFF or GTA eloaders, like gpSP and DGEN 1.70, etc. because you can emulate the 1.50 bios.

It's really the best of all worlds.

It is currently a GIANT pain in the ass getting the HEN to run, due to the instability of the TIFF though.

from 2.71, run the homebrew enabler program....the first time u run it, ull get a red or a green screen....u must run this program until you get a green screen.....after that, future times you will always get a blue screen, so no worries.

after that runs, the xmb will reset....download and run devhook for 2.71....if u want the full release w/ the d*m* of 1.5 just pm...*coughs* and then voila. done.

Yes I have confirmed ALL of this 3 or 4 times now.

YES everything you're asking about runs on a TA-082 once you get it set up.

YES! YES! YES! Does that answer your question?

As far as a guide - simple - download the HENB, and the Devhook launcher from Dark_Alex's site. I posted it here already. Then find a copy of Devhook .45 with the firmwares. There are other sites that have it. We can't tell you where to get that specifically on this site, but it's not that hard people.

Once you get all that stuff, follow the instructions, and install it.

then run it.

The HENb rev. 2 doesn't like to run when there's a UMD in the drive. Don't understand why, but it's more often successful when the drive is empty.

Spread the word to all the TA-082 owers 1.5 is available to all!! (except 2.8/1 users)

For whatever reason, 1.5 is NOT available for me :( I've been trying since yesterday with no success.

Here's the problem:

I ran HenB and first time I got the blue then green screen, then my psp shut off about 15 seconds later. Now, with the new revision of HenB, I get the blue screen to show up every time, but instead of restarting to the xmb, the psp just shuts off after about 10 seconds or so. This happens every time, not once has HenB restarted to the XMB.

I have a TA-82, 2.71 psp, and it seems to work for everyone, so I don't get what the problem is? Is there anything special that I need to do for HenB to restart after the blue screen is shown?

Ok, now I am just jealous. I tried installing everything on my brother's 2.71 TA-82 psp, and everything worked fine on the first try! Something is obviously screwy with my PSP :(

Could HENB have someone not flashed the files correctly on my PSP? That's about the only thing I can think of, because other than that, our PSP's would be identical. Anyone know how to get HENB to reflash?

M!ckeY
September 26th, 2006, 04:01
@ jdm69

i doubt that the files where not flashed correctly, maybe the files where not even flashed at all

jdm69
September 26th, 2006, 04:15
If they weren't flash at all, wouldn't I have got a red screen? I got the green screen, which would mean that everything worked, correct? Like I said, I always get to the blue screen, but the PSP just won't restart to the XMB.

Also, I'd think that if the files weren't flashed to the psp, I would continue to get the red screen, or some point get the green screen. I'm not a hundred perfect sure how it all works, but obviously HENB thinks the files are flashed? I don't know at this point...too stressed out.

M!ckeY
September 26th, 2006, 04:24
have you tried loading any of the .prx files that where included in the download to see if the files where really flashed?

jdm69
September 26th, 2006, 04:27
Yes, the games boot up and look like they are going to work, then I get a screen that says something like "This game cannot be started." So, technically it begins to boot the .prx file, but comes up with the error.

M!ckeY
September 26th, 2006, 04:31
i don't think it even loads the .prx files, i think that the files load after the psp video plays, because that's when the memory stick light begins to flash.

jdm69
September 26th, 2006, 04:33
Technically, it wouldn't be able to load the .prx files though unless HENB was able to run correctly. Because I always get to the blue screen and my psp shuts down, HENB is never loaded into the memory and therefore the .prx files are not able to run. Why my psp shuts off after the blue screen, I don't know.

M!ckeY
September 26th, 2006, 04:36

jdm69

Ya, I've tried that several times...
I also tried removing my battery, reformatting, and a number of other suggestions that people recommended. Nothing has worked. I just don't get why it would work on my brothers psp, and not mine when they are the same, that's why I think something went wrong with the flash, but maybe I'm completely wrong.

No problem with not being able to help me though, thanks for the help anyways. (It is more help than anyone else has given me so far).

Still haven't got HENB past the blue screen...

The only problem that there could be would have to be with the files that were flashed to my psp. The reason I say this is because I used my same pro duo on my brothers psp and HENB worked like a charm. Therefore, something had to go wrong with the flashing of the files...

Would there be any way on a 2.71 to remove those files so that HENB can write them again (obviously it still thinks they are there (maybe they are, possibly one getting corrupted?, or else it would be showing me the red or green screen I'd imagine).

So, does anyone know how to remove those files from the flash, or would I need to contact Dark_Alex to find out about that? Does anybody know how to contact Dark Alex? (Because if he knows how to write the files to flash, he could probably remove them easily I'd image).

My first post here and hopefully this will lend a helping hand to other slow people like myself. I just got a PSP recently so all this homebrew, devhook, firmware stuff is all new to me. But I do come from a PS2 modding background.

Complete Newbie (really I am) to Devhook on 2.71 TA-082

Before we start, a big cheers to Dark_Alex, Booster, et al for their tireless work!

To get this to work I had to do 3 things to get it installed:

1. Upgrade my TA-082 2.50 original PSP to the 2.71 firmware.
I had to find the Eboot firmware on the dl.qj site. I hope it's okay if I post a link, I don't think it's illegal as it's an official firmware --> Download 2.71 Firmware (http://dl.qj.net/Firmware-2.71-Firmwares-PSP/pg/12/fid/8046/catid/163)
Take the eboot.pbp file and put it on your memory stick in the /psp/game/UPDATE folder (create the update folder). On the PSP XMB menu goto the Game -> Memory Stick icon and scroll down the list looking for the 2.71 firmware update icon. Select it and follow the onscreen instructions.

2. Install the HENB2 homebrew.
Download Dark_Alex's Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 (Revision B) with better binary loading (http://dax.lan.st/henb2.rar) from his site. Install it on your PSP as per the instructions in the README.TXT file. Read it carefully. Also there's a slight chance of bricking your PSP here as it writes to flash. Didn't happen to me but proceed with caution.

Abridged version is:
a. Copy MS_ROOT to your MS
b. In XMB -> Photo enter the HENB folder
c. You'll see a blue screen then a green screen (GOOD), red screen (BAD). If red repeat until green.

Hardware reset will clear the HENB goodness, so you have to run HENB everytime. When your PSP is in sleep mode you don't need to rerun.

Feel free to delete psppbtknf*.txt, psptknf_update and systemctrl.prx in the root of your ms and NOTHING ELSE.

3. Install Devlauncher271_2 on your MS

Download the binary from this post from Dark Alex's site here (http://dax.lan.st/devlauncher271_2.rar). Install it as per the readme271.txt file. It's a little cryptic so I'll explain.

a. Put the folders/files from the MS_ROOT dir, onto your PSP MS. There's a dh folder and 3 folders that go in the psp/game directory.
b. You need to get firmwares for 1.50 and 2.71. This is the part that's "tricky" because it's not included in the file. I searched the net and "found" them somewhere but when tried it didn't work. I searched elsewhere and found a set that worked. All I can say is search torrents and elsewhere (as an aside I love usenet, alt*ahem*binaries*cough*sony.psp).
c. Install the firmwares into the dh directory on your MS.

The start procedure is as follows:
1. Start the PSP to the XMB
2. Goto Photo and run the HENB2 if you haven't already. You get the blue screen and it reboots the PSP to the XMB
3. Goto Game -> Memory Stick and select the devhook launcher 4xx one ... not the 0.46 one.
4. It'll give you the PSP start game thing and you should see the devhook by booster black menus!

Yay! Your PSP's been h4x0red!

Now What??

I have to admit that when I saw the devhook screen I was pretty happy that it worked but I had no idea what I was supposed to do. We can't talk about some "i*o things" so I won't.

I was actually just hoping to get to a 1.50 firmware XMB screen and I was having problems. Here's what I did.

1. From the devhook menu, select Firmware and select 1.50. Press circle and it will bump you back to the main devhook menu
2. Select Start and press circle
3. The screen will go black and you should see the MS red led flashing. If it doesn't or turns off after a few seconds then the firmware you selected is no good. Try to find another firmware and put it in the dh folder.
4. You will then see that pink/red XMB and you're in 1.50!!! Pat yourself on the back.

Devhook again

From the 1.50 XMB start the 0.46 devhook launcher again. Goto Game -> Memory Stick and select Devhook 0.46 launcher. You'll be back at the devhook menu.

From here you can jump to the 2.71 firmware by going to Firmware and selecting the 2.71. Press circle and from the devhook main menu select start. You'll be at a red/ping 2.71 XMB.

To load a "thing" devhook menu menu goto UMD Select and pick your thing. Hit Start and you're back at the 1.50 XM. Select Game -> UMD.

What I don't know
- From devhook to 1.50, can you only load 1.50 things or newer as well from the 1.50 XMB?
- From devhook to 1.50 and devhooking again to 2.71 ... what can you do? I can't mount a "thing"
- From the devhook to 1.50, can you load homebrews like GPSP0.7?

I have to admit that I've just scratched the surface of this stuff and I'm sure great features will be coming out soon that are better. However, I don't know where to find more help on this. Any clarifications would be much appreciated.

I have 2 PSP consoles. A black one with Firmware 1.00 (Downgrade history: 2.50 > 2.70 > 2.71 > 1.50 > 1.00) and a white one with FW 1.50 (Downgrade history: 2.60 > 2.71 > 1.50). Maybe I should upgrade one of them and check out Devhook via that Homebrew Enabler (Revision C). Just hope I don't land up with a bricked machine, though.
