Yoshihiro (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/search.php?searchid=750341) has released the first public release of his PSX-P Playstation One emulator for the PSP. This first public release is a good demonstration of what could be in time an excellent Playstation Emulator for the PSP, once a dynarec is built in then Sony will have reason to worry or worry us :D.

This emulator works on PSPs from ver1.0 to v2.71 obviously after v1.5 youll need to use the Eloader (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=36627).

DIGG IT (http://digg.com/gaming_news/PSX_P_Beta_1_Released_Playstation_Emulator_for_PSP )

Translation of release information by Video Freak ;)

English:
Here is the first public release of Psx-P, beta 1. Please do not forget that this is just a beta version and that there is still a long way to go before

we reach our goal. (I'm guessing full speed emulation.)

Description:

PSX-P is a PS1 emulator programmed (written) by Yoshiro. The games must be in ISO or BIN format. You can therefore make images of the
games you own without having to buy them again on the internet. For legal purposes, we are not supplying you with the SCPH1001.BIN file,
which is the PS1 bios.

What's new?

In the current version of this emulator, the overall speed is slow because of the absence of an optimized dynaric (dynamic recomplier).
Dark_Alex should be getting to that part of the emulator soon (after he finishes his HEN on 2.71).

So here we have a beta version in our hands, and we're ready to share it with you.

Installation:
The versions on PSP_GENERATION have been compressed in a way that lets you decompress it directly to your PSP memory stick. You will
need winrar installed (winrar is much better than winzip).

-Download the appropriate version for your firmware.
-Connect your PSP to your computer through USB.
-Right-click on the file you have just downloaded.
-Click on "extract".
-Choose your PSP's drive letter.
-Click on ok. That's it.

Where do you put the bios?
In the folder called BIOS inside the folder called PxsP (ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCE__psxp/bios).

Where to put your roms?
In the folder called Rom inside the folder called PxsP (ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCE__psxp/rom).

How to run the homebrew?

PSP1.0 and 1.5: Game>memory stick>Psx-P
PSP 2.00-2.60: install eLoader 0.9.8 and use the picture viewer to launch it.

Some Screens :)

GPL VIOLATION - Files took Down Thanks Bluecrab

Ok.... At the request of wraggster, here's some of the most incriminating things coming out of the output of strings on the PSX-P Binary:

We'll start with perhaps the most incriminating of all:

Greets to: Duddie, Tratax, Kazzuya, JNS, Bobbi, Psychojak, Shunt,
Keith, DarkWatcher, Xeven, Liquid, Dixon, Prafull
Special thanks to:
Twin (we Love you twin0r), Roor (love for you too),
calb (Thanks for help :) ), now3d (for great help to my psxdev stuff :) )
PCSX a psx emulator
written by:
main coder: linuzappz
co-coders: shadow
co-coders: PacManFan for the PSP port
ex-coders: Nocomp, Pete Bernett, nik3d
Webmaster: AkumaX
These are credits to PCSX, which are embedded in the code. They clearly state that the program is indeed PCSX.

A few more though...

*PCSX*: CdromLabel: %s
*PCSX*: CdromId: %s

This file is not a psx file
Pcsx found that you wanna use a CPE file. CPE files not supported
Pcsx found that you wanna use a COFF file. COFF files not supported
STv3 PCSX

*PCSX*: Selected State %ld

Pcsx
Those just prove that PSX-P is indeed based on PCSX. PCSX is GPLed and requires that any derivative works release source with any binary(or an legally binding offer to obtain the exact source used to create such a binary).

A few more things that PSP-X infringes on though, while we're at it. (once again output from strings)

SDL_UpperBlit: passed a NULL surface
P.E.Op.S. is Also GPLed code. And SDL is LGPLed code. (There are several other instances of SDL strings in the binary, I feel that I've provided enough to prove dependence on SDL). SDL's license is a bit different than the GPL. It doesn't unconditionally require a source release, just if the code is a deriative work of SDL. Statically linking a binary with a library makes it a deriative work, and therefore it must have its source released under the LGPL. (See http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.html terms and conditions #5 for more on that).

Just in case you aren't familiar with the GPL and LGPL, you can see both at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/

That's all for now.

At the request of the PCSX Team the files have been removed until the source code is released

yeh i was think that my iso may be bad.
i made it with magic iso as ive said i just dragged all the files.
dunno if i shuld try it as .bin??

I'm using Magic ISO myself, of course I originally had it as a MDF file for Alcohol. I just loaded it into my emulated CD-ROM drive and I'm having Magic ISO rip it again, this time as a BIN

I really don't wanna get off my ass and try and find the actual CD's....

You shouldn't be loading the BIOS as a ROM. It's job is to hang out in the BIOS folder, and answer calls made to it by the game ROMs. I don't know if any of you have used the excellent GBA emulator gpSP, but the same idea is used there.

As for those of you asking how to backup your games, Google knows all. IIRC, the author stated that the emulator will load .iso and .bin formatted ROMs. If you ask Google how to backup your legally owned games, I'm sure it will tell you what you need to know.

As for myself, I'm fixing to give this thing a whirl. Honestly, this functionality is half the reason I bought a PSP in the first place. Mind you, I was expecting Sony to implement it--until I did some post-purchase research, I had *no* idea what a thriving homebrew scene this machine had.

Big ups!

MGS Disc 1 won't load in ISO or BIN/CUE format. They both reset back to the XMB. I am using SCPH1001 BIOS and UltraISO.

Resident Evil 2 Disc 1 (Leon) boots up to the "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore," then the graphics get garbled and it shuts off.

Oh well, it's a start. It was pretty exciting to see that on my PSP screen.

You are lucky if you get 6fps. This is an Alpha release as well as a Port so I will not be expecting much any time soon. Many people are talking about this emulator like it will be playable any time soon but it will not be.

Very nice work here. Impressive :)

I have tried 3 games, 2 work one crashes at the title screen.

Tomba 1 and 2 both Usa versions work, although a bit on the sloooow side, Tomba 2 took 2 mins roughly to get from the 'sony computer entertainment presents' screen to the title screen. Tomba 1 on the toher hand was a 20 second job.

Scrabble, the 1 game I would have thought would be playable crashed :)

Every single one of my psx discs work ripped via alcohol 120%, it's an amazing piece of software, it even has a wizard, stick a cd in, asks you what kind of image you want to create then asks where to save, save it out, jobs a good'un.

I'll test as many as possible but there's 142 to go through, still have a pile of games I bought off ebay to do aswell :D

I tried Bugs Bunny and Taz: Timebusters. It crashed at the language select screen.

I used alcohol 120 to rip it into a .iso.

I have about 70 more games but I don't feel like going through them. It doesn't seem playable even if I get in-game so i'm no going to waste the time.

Good work though. Hopefully it can improve.

Even though MK Trilogy crashed at the copyright screen, I know I ripped it right so that wasn't the problem. I also have more than enough bio files so that wasn't it either.

Compatibility and speed will be the main issues as time goes on so for now, I'll just read up on every release instead of trying each version out until the results are better.

This is one hell of an accomplishment for the homebrew scene though. Sony has been officially pwnd :p

All the psx bios are the same. It doesn't change in compatibility, speed or anything.

This is great news and all but I think I'll wait till I get a 4 Gig. memory card or until it runs a lil faster because my goodness to play a good game you need like 800 MB or so just to play one disc, I mean I only have a 1 Gig. memory card and about 400MB left so if anyone knows any games that are about that size or lower lemme know then I'll try it out, but besides that this is great for Homebrew!!
