Apple Granted Patent For Slide To Unlock

The United States Patent & Trademark Office has approved Apple's patent on the slide to unlock gesture (http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/25/slide-to-unlock-patented/) used on iOS devices. Interestingly, this patent (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=11&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=apple&OS=apple&RS=apple) was earlier dismissed in Europe due to prior art. With many Android phones using a similar slide gesture, it will be interesting to see how this new patent will affect the patent wars between Apple and Android vendors.
