View Full Version : Homebrew Enabler for 2.71 revision C

Dark Alex (http://www.dark-alex.org/) has released a new version of his Homebrew Enabler/launcher for the PSP Firmware 2.71. Heres the release details:

- Revision A (22 september):

* Initial release

- Revision B (24 september):

* Some kernel prx's didn't load because the kernel tried to load them to user partition. This problem affected devhook.prx and some other kernel prx's.
This problem has been fixed.

- Revision B with better binary loader in the tiff (25 september)

* Changed the binary loader to use the one from tiffsdk 1.1 that has better stability.
No changes on the core.

- Revision C (29 september):

* User mode static ELF's are now starting to work.
Tested with SNES TYL 0.3 (user mode version), PSPMaster and CPS2PSP 1.0 (user mode version).
Kernel mode static elf's are still not supported, they are a very odd case in 1.XX of kernel code loaded to user memory.
Kernel Homebrew for 2.71 has to be written with a user main elf/prx that load kernel prx's.
Note that the homebrew must be in a true pbp, not kxploited!.

* User mode prx's could load other user mode prx's, but kernel mode prx's couldn't load user mode prx's. This is fixed.

* Patched the firmware to allow it to understand the old SFO format.
(avoiding the error of data is corrupted)

* Added a small win32 binary that will give you a hint about if a homebrew can work or not in the current release. Note that this is only a hint.

i was just gonna submit this too hehe

he also added the devhook files, so if u have 1.50 and use devhook to run 2.71, just go into the devhook folder in the zip file and extract that to your root ms0 drive...

just beware, if u load any custom prx's in 2.71 dh the settings will be erased from 271/flash0/kd/ - so make sure u copy and paste them back in once u copy the new stuff.

also, make sure u dont just try to install the new prx urself by editing the config files, it doesnt work :)

cheers!

Dark Alex is doing a great job in making a 2.71 completely homebrew friendly. Amazing work for the psp scene.

DA is working on a custom 271 firmware!
I believe he's going to turn 2.71 into the the Golden firmware (like 1.50 is now).

And I didn't believe in God.. DA is God!

Posting in the PSP news forum results in the news appeering on the front page and if anyone could post in there who knows what would end up the front page.

someone should start a compatability list for this loader:
devhooked 2.71 + HenC
Bomerman Arena - Works
gpSP - booted but then gave error screen (the game could not be started. (80020148))
PSPR - Works (tried anime edition)

When you got in gpsp, did you have the GBA BIOS on your memory stick?
Or maybe your ROM was broken.

This is still not an alternative to a true 1.50 firmware, meaning I don't think it would be wise for 1.50 users to upgrade, but this is an amazing development for TA-082 motherboard PSP's that CANNOT be downgraded.

Dark_AleX is really a monumental figure in PSP homebrew. We owe him a LOT!

That is a very good question. I would also like to know if this will alow "EMULATED" 2.71 to run 1.50 homebrew.

Kramer
September 29th, 2006, 18:46
Yeah it does work in emulated 2.71 I just tryed it.
anyway read the manual and you will find out how to do it.

jak66
September 29th, 2006, 19:03
may be a bug or just me but;
devhooked 2.71
monster hunter freedom (UMD) - loads then reboots XMB with an error
if i take away the prx that loads hen (remove it from the psp_game.txt in kd/) it works

ICE
September 29th, 2006, 19:10
so if you're using simulated 2.71 and you use this when you view the photo to install it shouldnt it be redirected away from the flash and into the memory stick since its devhook?

jak66
September 29th, 2006, 19:14
you dont need the picture if your running this via devhook, DAX has included a devhook ready version that you just put in your memory stick root and run

ICE
September 29th, 2006, 19:16
ok nevermind i see what you mean. its just for running homebrew designed for 2.71 though.

jak66
September 29th, 2006, 19:30
it can run some homebrew that can run on 1.5, but there are a few requirements
-must be in 1.0 eboot format
-must be user mode
but not all homebrew works

ok i'm trying to get this to work on a 1.5 psp with devhook(emulated to 2.71) the readme doesn't say where to put everything unless it's the same as on a 2.71 psp, can someone give me the run down on where to put everything...again i'm on a 1.5 psp devhook'd to 2.71, thanx :)

aries2k4
September 29th, 2006, 23:11
Hmm, i imagine all the files go to the same place as on a 2.71. hen files go to the root and photo folders
Homebrew 1.0 eboots go to the game folder
Homebrew I tested and worked

Cps2 --- Working
CPS1 --- Working
Neogeocdz --- Working
Neogeo 0.22 --- Working
Attack of the mutants -- Working
Super Mini Sonic v3 --- Working
Commander Keen --- Working

I´m a big fan of NJ´s emus so this is great.:D
This is looking very promising

Dark Alex has been making a steady progress.

At this stage though, those of us with 1.5 will need to maintain two copies of our homebrew. kxploited and non kxploited

I look forward to the next step of being able to run my user mode kxploited homebrew so I never need to leave my devicehooked 2.71 environment.

And then we can take over the world

All you have to do is drag the dh folder and the folders from the MS_ROOT folder into the root of your mem stick except delete the PSP folder first you wont need any of the files in that. Then you can load up non kxploited usermode homebrew in devhook and you dont have to worry about running the overflow tif either.

hopefully that made sense (dyslexic)

I have a TA-082 2.71 PSP. How do I load CSOs that need 2.6 or higher firmware?

nk64
September 30th, 2006, 17:42
I use Wedge's DLX2 mod and had some problems integrating the two.

In case anyone else has the same problem, I did some testing and narrowed it down to the fact that the usbhostfsDLX.prx from the Wedge's DLX2 mod seems to be incompatible with the systemctrl_dh.prx mod from Dark Alex.

In pspbtcnf.txt and pspbtcnf_game.txt, try commenting out the line that looks like:
ms0:/dh/kd/DLX/usbhostfsDLX.prx
by putting a # in front of it, like so: #ms0:/dh/kd/DLX/usbhostfsDLX.prx

this worked for me, now I can boot into Devhooked 2.71, run some 1.0 Eboots, and still access the DLX2 menu system.

By commenting out usbhostfsDLX.prx though, you lose the ability to stream umd images off the PC over usb. If you never did then, then no loss.

Cheers,
nk64.

what firmware is your psp on?
if it's 2.71, i dun see why you shudn't use it since u would still be able to run the eloader099 though there'll be another issue on compatability.

hmm...any1 try this relase with the reverse devhook yet? i dun wanna end up screwing my lovely emulated 1.5 :)

I got this to sort of work with Devhook. Not all apps run (some freeze the PSP on start up), but the demos work.

help, first time i install hen c on my PSP it works perfectly fine and I can play homebrew games. Then I tried to reformat my memory stick and re-install hen c again, homebrew games stop working. It showed a blue screen and it doesn't reboots but then when i play homebrew games it gives me an error 80020148!
i tried re-install again, it gave me a red screen before a blue screen. Doesn't seem good. Help
