View Full Version : Good Sega Images?

Hey all - I am working on trying to make some custom "rank" images for my forums, and I was thinking about making all of our custom ranks out of popular Sega or Dreamcast power-up images.

For example, one of my thoughts was to use rings from the Sonic games.

What are some other good Dreamcast images that would look decent at around 16x16 pixels?

maybe chaos emeralds and the litte winged medallion type thing from sonic? if you want to go with a sonic motif that is...

I'm not necessarily going just for a Sonic motif, but I do want it to be uniquely DC. The chaos emeralds are a good thought. Especially since they come in different colors.

yea. then for the big 'uns you could put those medal things with the wings... you know what i mean? like in the original sonics he pops in the middle of it?

also you could have ranks start at rings, go to the different powerups, then end at the chaos emeralds, each color meaning something different, and those medal things for admins or something =P

That sounds like a damn good idea. Thanks quzar. I think that is probably what I will go with.

Now I just have to figure out where to get good images from. Time to go to ask.com and start searching.

ftp://segapr.segaamerica.com/ you can find really high quality pics here curt. You'll have to go through the directories to find stuff though.

There are a few other colors of Chaos emerald that will be used for other positions, if I ever assign those positions (Global Mod, Regular Mod, etc.)

Keep in mind that they will be on a black background.

its good. Rings are perfect, but emeralds look kinda "flat". Take a look at this one: http://www.geocities.com/wackoemu/emeralds.gif.txt
feel free to use it ;)

That's awesome Wacko. Thank you.

I had actual screenshots of the emeralds, but when I made them transparent, and put them on the black background, they all had white remnants around them. The rings and the sonic head did, too, but I was able to get rid of that. I wasn't able to get rid of the white bits around the emeralds, so I tried making my own. Yours are a hell of a lot better.

Thank you.

IMO these are really cool ideas :)

I think the sonic head needs some work though.

@GabbiAngel: Thx for the link!

The SonicHead has been fixed. This is what it looks like now:

You can see them in action at the DCStuff Forums (http://www.sesonsite.com/perl/yabb/DCStuff/YaBB.cgi). I added them this morning.

Speaking of that, I'm going to run off and add your name to the News post (http://www.sesonsite.com/perl/yabb/DCStuff/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1084048038; start=0#0) about the rank images.

I am very big on giving credit where credit is due. I would never have thought of the chaos emerald idea if it weren't for you. If I find anything that I plan on using at the link that Gabbi gave me, she will get credit too.

BTW - I don't know if you noticed or not, but the words "News post" in my post above are actually a link to that news post, if you wanted to see your name in lights.

Thanks. I originally thought that little thing in the bottom left corner was his hand or something, but I later realized that it was actually part of the background from the image I ripped it out of. That was the main problem.

curt_grymala
May 9th, 2004, 05:33
Oh, and I didn't mention it here, but obviously I gave you credit in that news post, too wacko.

That's really weird. I don't know what the deal with that is. I will have to look into it.

yabb can be a funny bugger at times.

we have a problem on here when we post news, i cant seem to get it to show our names so we use dcemu_newsposter but id rather have our names.

curt_grymala
May 9th, 2004, 14:45
If you were to use the "News" mod that they have over at BoardMod, it would show your names, but it also only pulls the posts from one forum, and it will pull all of the posts from that forum (it treats all topics as newsposts, and all replies as comments, so it doesn't post the comments, but it does post all of the newsposts). However, you can use another mod to restrict who can start topics in each forum, so that only newsposters could start topics, but everyone could reply. That's what I am using on the preview of the new DCStuff. You can see what it looks like. You can play with it a lot, and could have it look exactly the same as the news you're using now.

we use coranto for news and it usually shows up but only in my name lol

curt_grymala
May 9th, 2004, 15:21
Yeah. I know. I was actually thinking about using that for DCStuff as well, but I think I am going to stick with the News mod for YaBB.

curt_grymala
May 9th, 2004, 16:15
@wacko - I just had another person register, so I know the registration is still working. Would you like me to try to register you, and see if that turns out better for you? I posted a question about the problem over at the YaBB Support Forums, to see if anyone knows what the problem is, but I don't know how quickly I will get a response.

DC Stuff is not popping up for me. What's the link to your forums?

curt_grymala
May 9th, 2004, 17:39
http://www.sesonsite.com/perl/yabb/DCStuff/YaBB.cgi

I know DCStuff is not popping up right now. For some reason the server is down again. I was looking at moving everything over there, but if I keep having problems with the server, that's not going to happen. Right now, the front page of DCStuff is the only thing hosted on that server. The link to DCStuff, at the moment (it changes every once in a while, but it is usually hosted at this link), is http://homebrew.dcemulation.com/genesis/web_pages/Sbi/DCStuff.html

Funny, because I just PM'd Wraggster to ask if he could change the link on DCEmu UK, so that it would lead to the front page, but now I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the front page there.

I never got my password. For odd reason, I don't seem to get some of my mail forwarded from my 'storm-studios.net' addy. :/ Could you PM it to me here?

Me too... I called a "Forgot my password" and got mine ;)

curt_grymala
May 11th, 2004, 14:48
That's really weird. I think I'm going to set it up so you just choose your password at registration from now on. I don't know what the deal is.

EDIT - OK. The DCStuff Forums are now set up so that you choose your password when you register, instead of emailing you a random password.
