Mojang's indie sandbox game Minecraft has passed four million sales.
The news was revealed in a tweet (https://twitter.com/#!/notch/statuses/133437832458027008)by studio head Markus "Notch" Persson, and has since been confirmed on the game's official website.
Minecraft passed the three million mark (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/minecraft-sells-three-million) in August, by which point we estimated it had grossed somewhere around £35 million. At a current cost of €14.95, Mojang has now made around £48 million from a game first released for free in an alpha state, that is still in beta.
The game will finally exit beta at the sold-out Minecon (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/minecraft-convention-confirmed)event in Las Vegas next week.
