Computing giant said to be on the verge of buying graphics manufacturer - what does this mean for PC gaming?

Computing giant Intel is said to be on the verge of acquiring graphics manufacturer nVidia, according to Reuters.

The report says rumours have "spread quickly across Wall Street trading desks"
and that speculation indicates Intel will make an acquisition announcement tonight.

This news comes hot on the heels of rival AMD's acquisition of nVidia's biggest competitor, ATI, in July, which gave the CPU manufacturer entry into the graphics market, and led many to call Intel to secure a similar deal.

If true, this could be fantastic news for PC gaming, as many high-profile industry figures - most notable of whom is Epic's Mark Rein - have condemned Intel for including only inferior integrated graphics chips with its PCs, which according to Rein hurts the marketplace and gives people "machines that are completing incapable of playing games."

For the moment we'll have to wait and see if the Wall Street rumours come true.
