Okay, a few things about this release. First, it is a features/performance release - if anything new works consider yourself lucky (unless it's a 32MB ROM). I'm going to be focusing on compatability again for the next version. Second, it's still beta, so don't go crazy on me if something's broken. Third, don't go crazy on me if I didn't implement whatever favorite feature you wanted. Fourth, please actually read the readme.

Heres whats new from the readme:

v0.8 - ("unlocked" beta)

NOTE 1: It has come to my attention that there are actually BIOSes out there that are being used that cause some games to not work. The BIOS md5sum listed here is for the BIOS actually in GBAs and
is as accurate as you'll get, (if you have a GBA and a flashcart you can dump it yourself, see http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/GBA_BIOS)

NOTE 2: Since I know this is as far as a lot of people here I have a little request. Please, please, (I'd italicize this if I could) please stop constantly asking me when the next release will be, what it'll have, etc. And while you're at it, please stop asking me to implement wi-fi multiplayer, cheat support, or fix all of your games. Some things will happen in due time, other things might not ever happen. I devote about as much time as I can to this emulator
and I carefully include as much as I can in releases to try to minimize the number of people who will nag me next time (erm, I mean, to make the most people happy), so I don't release every other day or anything like that. Sorry that I can't release once a week, but I'm a lot busier now than I was when I was first developing this emulator. Good thing I got the first version out before that, wasn't it?

Congratulations, you made it this far! Now read the rest of the this
thing. *_*

# Fixed bug in dead flag elimination, "alt" version no longer needed.
# Fixed EEPROM saves being saved as 32kb instead of 512bytes/8kb
+ 32MB ROM support has been added. ROMS are "demand loaded" as
necessary and page swapped out; there might be a small loading lag,
but I have yet to ever really notice anything.
NOTE: 32MB ROM support only works for unzipped ROMs.
+ Save states have been added. See the save state menu for save/load
options.
+ Support for the real-time clock (RTC) chip in Pokemon cartridegs
and other games. The implementation is based off of VBA's, whatever
notes on gbadev I could find, and some of my own reverse engineering
of what the games do... it might not be totally correct. Also,
setting the time does not work.
+ Per-game configuration. Currently this only saves frameskip and
frameskip variation options.
+ Removed the flash type option from the menu and instead added it
to game_config.txt. Hopefully got everything - let me know if you
find something that isn't there. It's pretty easy to add them if you
have to.
+ Added a display in the upper left-hand corner to indicate when
fast-forward is on.
+ Added button bindings for save/load state.
@ Found a fix of StrmnNrmn proportion: far too much unnecessary mutex
synchronization was going on. Removing the two offending lines of
code gave a massive speed boost for free. Enjoy.

October 9th, 2006, 01:43
yea this emu is legend.....exophase you shouldnt really call it a beta....... its way passed that

edit--

exophase why not upload the downloads to the post some browsers may have prob with download sites an things this is just for your future reference of course. also next time your posting you should be sure to include all the optimalzations that you implamented instead of just saying "dont be mad that your feature werent added this time" if you show your pros and cons on your post then we wouldnt have to know that like + the (j.i.t) has been optimised. - the 32 mb rom support has been disabled. this is for future reference its just good posting habits;) :)

ALSUM WORK THIS EMU ROCKS:D

edit--

exophase or staff move this to psp news ..... i dont think ppl have even caught wind of this yet!!!

edit--

KINGDOM HEARTS WORKS.....KICK A$$!!!!!!!!!

edit--

I thout i would take the liberty out to post the optimalzations that the emu has gone through and enhancements that were not mentioned in the first post AS WE ALL LOVE DETAILS;)

-also exophase has constantly made it clear that he doesnt want anyone to keep pm'ing him about "when is the new release of the gba emu gonna be out" so please leave him alone on that one just looking out;) :) :D

edit--

iv deleted the optimazation news as exophase seem to have added it to the news post

I really cannot believe this. Exophase has just released an update to this emulator and already you are asking him to fix a game. I think this is selfish and unnecessary. There are games that I want fixed but this will happen whenever time allows.

October 9th, 2006, 04:27
First off, THANK YOU for this tremendous gift to the PSP homebrew community. This is on the top of the list when it comes to advanced PSP homebrew. You should feel very proud of this.

Second, and pertaining to the quote above, I can't help but feel great anger at the people constantly nagging you. By now people should understand that when you update gpSP, its BIG, really BIG. It sort of comes out of nowhere and kicks our a$$. And that is the way I like it. Much preferable over daily/weekly updates.

I hope the guilty parties (you know who you are) respect the wishes of Exophase from here on. Like I said, this is a truly great and wonderful gift and should be appreciated as so.

THANK YOU Exophase!

Holy Jesus!

This is a really impressive release, not only did you add
32MB support, but the speed increase is amazing, i'm actually having trouble finding ways to slow it down.
rhythm tengoku never slows down at 60fps now and
fzero mv now runs full speed at 60fps. (although the audio gets a bit choppy every here and there in fzero.)

I love you Exophase.

before I go through the trouble if dumping my bios, does kingdom hearts actually work or not? Has anyone gotten significantly into the game to see if it crashes or not.

mine crashed at the ist cutscene (US version) with an unofficial bios. i'll use my supercard to dump my gba bios but I can't do it right now. My parents are sleeping in the room with my only computer that has an SD card reader.

Thanks so muck EXOPHASE for all your efforts. INCREDIBLE JOB!

For those of you who get stuck on the 1st cutscene of KH COM you can make a save file on VisualBoy Advance on the PC then load it on your PSP. I don't know what'll happen when the next cutsence rolls around but it isn't until pretty far into the game.

None of my games are starting in this... They either stay on a blue screen or show somekind of error message that I can't read because the text is split into lines. I'm using the same bios that I had in the last version I was running (and it worked fine then). What could be going wrong?

Lol... To check if it is the right BIOS, when starting the emulator on the PSP without a bios file, the emulator will say you need the BIOS file, AND it will tell you the specifics of the file. SpacemanSpiff, just check that information from this window (only comes up without a properly named BIOS). That's how I made sure, and it works great for me!

Exophase (if you actually read this), do you think you can integrate a GSF player into the emulator menu at some point, like with SNES TYL? That would be pretty sweet.

To make sure that I had the correct Bios I got it from one of my GBA using my old EZFlash Card.

To check that you have the correct Bios open it in a Hex Editor (I used Hxd freeware) and the first 32 entries should look like the following:

18 00 00 EA 04 00 00 EA 4C 00 00 EA 02 00 00 EA
01 00 00 EA 00 00 00 EA 42 00 00 EA A0 D1 9F E5

For all information needed refer to this wiki http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/Dump_GBA_BIOS

SpacemanSpiff
October 10th, 2006, 02:19
An even easier way to check your BIOS is just add it to a WinRAR archive, then open the archive and check the CRC32 column. If you have the bad BIOS the CRC32 value should be 15E1F676, but if you have the clean dump the CRC32 value is 81977335.

Kingdom Hearts doesn't seem to be working for me. The beginning vid loads after I say I want to plat a new game and the entire thing stops moving and begins to play wierd audio in the background. Also, a request for future releases: .ZIP file compatiability. Not a big deal, but just an idea for future releases. P.S. The Hash for the BIOS file I am using is e60e599135009129b288988a1cba91df. I couldn't find the one listed in the read-me. And for those who are wondering, yes I tried google and came up with the first thirty pages shown NOT having the proper BIOS image on them, though some acctually did end up having a BIOS. Just the wrong one.

Yeah I noticed roll doesn't work in Zelda with the "good" bios too. (I didn't dump them myself, I got them from somebody else) Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

same exact thing, "bad" bios lets you roll, "good" bios doesn't. Very strange, but I can understand the differences in the bios and hopefully it will be fixed. Thank you so much exophase for all your hard work and dedication through it all. :) Now if only there was a snes in jit, that would be amazing.

Any idea where i can get a prog to dumpmy gba bios? i've got the cable and everything...just need the wretched program.

its sad ive been using this site for practicly a year now for my homebrew needs but i have no idea what devhook is >_>;;

devhook is what 1.5 users use to emulate a higher firmware version be it for flash and wma support as well as being able to play UMDs that require firmware versions above 1.5.

Reverse devhook is for 2.71 to emulate 1.5 and with that, play kxploited homebrew off the xmb.

just if u wanna upgrade to use it :)
link to hen c and devhook for 2.71

The only good dump I can find is in the toilet!!

Going to have to stick with the previous version for now.

It was more than good enough anyway.

"Awesome" is not enough to describe this HUGE work.

Pokemon Green Leaf (French) works fine.

WarioWare runs with a frameskip of 0 (except for the minigame in Crygor's series where you must align some glasses on a "?" ; 2), and the trampoline jumpman minigame works now! Yay!

A Totally Spies ROM I downloaded for joke works very fine too :)

Fire Emblem Sacred Stones seems to work (but I didn't really started the game).

Max Payne Advance is running fine... provided there are no enemies on screen.

Mario Party Advance crashes on my PSP :(

Homebrew games Another World and Sonic Mega Collection don't work (BSoD for the first, bad jump for the second)

Kingdom Hearts EUR works great. The sound is a bit lousy when you want to open a door. But close the eyes during the cinematics x____x

V-Rally works well, not Asterix & Obelix XXL. Although they use the same 3d engine, the gaulish game is slower.

Here's a little of some games I tried :D

Hi, anyone with the bios that runs well willing to PM it to me. I'm using the one with the 15E1F676 CRC value. does the other one play Medal of Honour infiltrator? dying to get that running.

I'm totally hooked on Mr Driller 2

I don't know why so many people are asking for the Bios when they know they could get banned for doing so. It is copyrighted material so it is quite possible one could get into trouble for emailing or linking directly to it.

For all askin about Kingdom Hearts and its freezing problems :::

Dont use the (U) version, use the euro (E) dump, and make sure it is unzipped too.
HOWEVER.... Bad news. I was playing last night and getting well into it... but it freezes during a cut scene in Traverse Town (when the bell rings) . Im gonna try it again with some different settings, but sadly this might be as far as we can get in Kingdom Hearts.

I'm sorry to ask a bios-question too, but I'm somehow stuck (the whole net just seems to have the confirmed bad-dump starting with "14"):

I have a DSL and a G6Lite. I put the flubba ndsdumper on it (wich is supposed to dump the gba and nds bios as well).
But after executing it on the DSL (even with waiting a few minutes) nothing happens.
All the save-files wich belong to the ndsdumper are empty.

Second try i did, was reactivating my old GBA with flash Xtreme card and using darkfaders dumper.
It somehow worked, the first sram-savefile had 16kb data in it, but it doesn't match with the confirmed good dump. The good dump is supposed to start with "18", mine is starting with "7F". I even put the Xtreme card in the DSL, but the dump is the same, starting with 7F.

What am I doing wrong?

btw, thanks for this great release ;)

Down the rabbit hole we go to find the answer. "Why a rabbit?" you may ask. I must then ask, "Why not a rabbit?" Very helpful, and yet only slightly cryptic...I like it.
PS: Thanx for the link you never gave me from a person who never asked;)

Has anyone gotten past the final boss in the Temple of Droplets in Zelda the minish cap?

My game keeps getting the blue screen crash right as i begin to fight him.

This is the farthest I can get in the game and it crashes everytime when I walk left past the Goron. Then I get the blue screen. This is a little past the Droplets Dungeon. Nothing that I can really do here to stop the crash. I guess there's supposed to be a cinema where the Goron rises up and that makes the PSP crash every time. Guess I'll wait tll the next update. Hopes this helps at least a little on the problem.

~Got past the Droplet dungeon boss exactly as someone said, used the lamp minimaly (probably had used the lamp for a total of one second). Brought the lamp out, then immediately slashed so it wouldn't crash. also ran away from the boss so too much fire wouldn't appear on the screen--did this because it crashed a few times while I didn't even have the lamp out. Thought it had something to do with the fire that is being rendered, but don't know.
