HarleyG's is for 1.50.
If you want Recovery console on 2.71 you must get Dark_Alex's 2.71 Special Edition rev A. (Recovery is coded by HarlyG, BTW)

those are the options for the 2.71 special firmware i have the reverse firmware already installed but i want to install the special firmware for 2.71 now wht option do i chose for my situation???

1. Install the SE-A and Dev Hook for 2.71
2. Install SE-A and Dev Hook for 2.71 with 1.50 firmware
3. Just the SE-A
4. Just Dev Hook for 2.71

if you have 2.71 and HEN-C you cannot put in any custom firmware. if you have a NON TA-082 BOARD you can downgrade to 1.50 and install 2.71 SE-A which comes w/ a recovery mode.

How do i know if i have a TA-082 BOARD???

kando

How do i know if i have a TA-082 BOARD???

grab a flashlight....pop open your umd drive like your going to insert in a game....shine the flashlight inside the psp, at the TOP RIGHT on a green section of the board, if you see IC1003 upside down...its a ta-082. otherwise, no.

http://0okm0000.googlepages.com/TA-082-3b-1.jpg

there is a pic of where it is, although most of that will be covered by the UMD drive door...still, its in the upper right corner and is visible easily with a flashlight....if you see just green, you're good. otherwise, IC1003 upsidedown, nopers! you are beat :(

Depends what you want, i'd just say 1. SE-A as you already have devhook. Is the instaler that complex to understand?

You probably don't have a TA-082 :) its in the top right only.

theres one more better picture....you only need to worry about the top right.

if there is NOTHING there, look to http://dax.lan.st for the generic 2.71 downgrader....you can downgrade to 1.50, and then download his 2.71 SE-A custom firmware....and your in baby!

Vendeta

October 14th, 2006, 01:50
its safe.
just get on with it.
can u not use google.

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 01:52
no i dont trust google

kando
October 14th, 2006, 01:52
vendeta: hen-c is just a small hack into the original 2.71 firmware. as a matter of fact, you need to have hen-c enabled in order to run the generic downgrader. just download it, and read the readme...everything is in there.

if you need the original eboot updates, you can grab them at psp-hacks.com

its safe if you READ EVERYTHING before you do it and PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing.

2.71SE-A is completely different....once you downgrade to 1.50, you can install 2.71SE-A which is basically 2.71 with all of 1.50's advantages...its the best of both worlds. you will be able to play ANY HOMEBREW that exists for the psp.

but you cant install 2.71SE-A until you downgrade to 1.50.

best of luck!

when it comes to messing with $250 dollar stuff, i wouldnt hesitate to go to the pro's first either =)

there are always ppl like me and many other ppl on this board that dont mind taking out a few minutes of time to make sure someone doesnt end up with a $250 paperweight :)

Lol should i format my memory stick first??? I'm incompetent do u have msn so u Can walk me through it??

kando
October 14th, 2006, 01:59
i cant walk you through it....but i can help if you get stuck.

formatting your memory stick is not necessary. im tellin ya, every word in plain english of how to go about downgrading and then installing new custom firmwares are all in the official readme that comes w/ each package at http://dax.lan.st

have a little confidence, you'll do fine :)

but again, to answer your question, you dont have to format your memory stick. just make sure you have enough room for all the files that are needed to make it work :)

were do i get the 1.50 eboot

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:05

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:11
so i rename the 1.50 eboot to update than put it in the the update folder that put the update folder in my psp in games and than go and run the program....is it realy that easy??

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:14
Instructions:
------------

- Copy the contents inside MS_ROOT to the root of your memstick.

- Get the EBOOT.PBP of the update you want to install, and copy it with the name of "UPDATE.PBP" to
/PSP/GAME/UPDATE

- Run the program.

so the answer is yes :)

and this is actually the first time i looked at the readme for the downgrader as i never used it....wow that is really too easy =p

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:15
UPDATE in caps
and whts the src for do i need that or gust leave it on my computer

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:18
well since you are able to tell that "UPDATE.PBP" was DISTINCTIVLY in caps for a reason, im sure you'll be fine :)

and of course by "3) run the program" he means his program, not the UPDATE.PBP :P

but im sure u knew that :D

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:20
and the src folder

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:21
src is the source....so u dont need that.

just everything in MS_ROOT goes to ms0:\

in other words

MS_ROOT\PSP\

goes to F:\PSP

or whatever ur drive is.

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:22
k i thik im almost there now to get past the fear of doing this

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:25
just triple check that you dont have that IC1003 on the upper right...

http://www.modchipstore.com/support/images/ta82spot.jpg

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE because if it is there you will have a nice paperweight.

if your SURE its just a green board....you're safer than a cockroach in a nuclear fallout =p

Vendeta

do you have HEN-C installed and enabled?

This tool enables a 2.71 running HEN C to downgrade to any version from 1.50-2.70 or to
reflash the own 2.71.

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:29
yes
how bought i format and install all again

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:30
no need....just make sure hen-c is ENABLED....and dark_alex's downgrader should run from the main menu.

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:32
run the enabler program....let the psp do its thing, let it restart itself....once it comes back up, run his downgrader.

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:32

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 02:34

kando
October 14th, 2006, 02:35
again, from the readme for hen-c.....

- Go to the PHOTO viewer of the XMB and enter in the folder "HENC".
- If the psp just freeze, reboot your psp and try again. Currently the tiff is very unstable and it
is only executed sometimes. I'll try to improve that in the future.

- The first time you run the program, you will see quickly a blue screen, and after that a screen
that can be of two colors:

* Red: the files couldn't be written to the flash (it hapens a few times). Just keep trying.
* Green: The files were written succesfully. After that, the xmb will be rebooted. Now you can run
the homebrew in format prepared for 2.71. (see details below).

- As mentioned before, the patch will remain resident in memory, and even entering sleep mode
won't delete it. Only a hardware reset will remove the program from memory.

- When you do a hardware reset, you'll have to run the tiff again.
This time there won't be green or red screen, just a blue screen and xmb reboot, since
this time there is no need to write to the flash.

i must leave you for now, but everything you need is here on this post, and in the readme.txt's in http://dax.lan.st 's files.

will check back with ya later!

i would get familiar with 1.50 before you jump to 2.71SE-A but i would definatly download devhook so you can at least devhook back 2.71....grab the full package at www.DevHookInstaller.co.nr :)

if u need anything feel free to PM me! cheers! (k now im leaving)

kando
October 14th, 2006, 03:27
how do i install the custom firmware

until you get familiar with 1.50 (and i recommend waiting for 2.71 SE-B (revision B)), you can simply install harleyG's custom firmware and use 1.50's magic powers....

psp-hacks.com under downloads...you can find harleyg's custom firmware, along with instructions in the readme.

cheers!

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 03:31
i got it all but do i install it in the game folder

kando
October 14th, 2006, 03:33
most likely....again, read the readme and all will be revealed!

fyi 1.50 has no need for the photo section to run anything....everything is run out of psp\game\

Vendeta
October 14th, 2006, 03:34
i have the auto installer tho?

kando
October 14th, 2006, 03:37
i havent installed harleyG's firmware, so all i can recommend is reading the readme.txt front to back...dunno how strongly i can suggest that, my friend :)

all will be revealed!
