my ps2 doesnt work!!
i played my ps2 fine one morning, a couple of hours later i came back to play some more but this problem occured:
when i try to load a game, it does not load but instead the ps2 just takes me to the configuration menu
when i go to the browser it says "reading Disc"
The ps2 will not play cd's, DVD's either.
can i fix this problem myself or do i need to take it into a dealer??

the "big" ps2 have a 90 day warranty, check the docs that came with it.
To start, with unplug the unit remove everything you have attached to it, memcards, controller, NIC etc..
grab a couple games, plug it in, and turn it on. see if it boots, try with a few games.
if it doesn't work and it's still under warranty take it back for another.
not under warranty, then try a cd laser cleaner on it.

what is your ps2's version?
if that is 5XXXX , I think it is highly possible that your PS2 lens have burnt. You need to bring it back to shop to exchange the lens and cost some money ~~

also this could be the problem your having last year or something like that my friend bought his PS2 he was able to play a DVDRom game but when he put the blue regular PS2 disks it wouldnt load the reason there was a missing chip making him unable to load those disks

what sounds do you hear when you insert disc? is it click-click-click-click or noraml reading disc?
try using cleaning disc.
