should not be soon because as far as I no there is no access to kernal(unless kept hidden secret) that means that you cannot write to flash which is where the firmware is found.

Why do people keep asking if there is going to be a downgrader why update to 2.8 in the first place then start saying you want a downgrader

There must be someway of writing to flash because when sony release a update they need to so maybe a decryption of 2.81 might release the info needed.

It won't be of any help.

I agree with S34MU5. When you upgrade from 2.80 to 2.81, it has to have a way of writing to the flash, for if it couldn't, you could not upgrade. I don't think we will be finding out how anytime soon.

well we need a downgrader soon. is there any way to use the Tiff exploit? DA will come through, after all he is the miracle worker of the PSP lol

Please be patient and wait why update to 2.8 then ask for a downgrader

remember guys, sony make the rules, thats why they have kernal access on every firmware and we have to find work arounds. the reason sony can access flash is due to the all powerful encription keys (or whatever) what let the do all "magical" thing to eboots, like get them to run without exploits, and grant them kernal access

We can't. We have no kernel access to 2.8 and we cannot find the encryption keys to run unsigned eboots.

So don't get your hopes up. According to some people, it may take years.

So are you saying their will never be one or just no atm?

Sony said that nobody would ever be able to crack the PSP, and they did in the first few months right? never beleive only some opions, just hope for da best!

i hope its cracked soon cause i want to downgrade my second psp. also 2.00 didn't have any kernel access and they still made a downgrader for it so nothings impossible.

I think we have partial access but there is so much security blocks they have to get around

ASAIK, we have Flash0 access (the registry and such like that) but we do not have Flash1 access (where the actual FW is stored at... i may have those number mixed up, eitherway) without the Flash1 access there will never be a downgrader. Now will there be access at a later time? Perhaps, but till it happens dont ask for a downgrader, right now they need to find all the SysCalls before they can try and do anything to find further exploits in the FW. About those who were saying that there has to be Kernel mode access, there is for Sony Encrypted Eboots something that we cannot create (hence why we HAVE to use an exploit to run eboots anyways, if we had the encryption keys we could create legit eboots that the PSP would run natively, like FW1.0 did) because the update eboots are encrypted they have access to kernel mode.

There won't be a downgrader using the TIFF exploit in firmware version 2.81 because Sony patched it up. Could be possible in 2.80 but I haven't heard any sign of one for that firmware yet.

could you take the 2.8 update and edit or decompile it to get the tools or at least some hint on how to gain kernal access

Cloudhunter

The experts have already tried that, youd know about it by now if it was possible yet ;)

It is ENCRYPTED.

Do you know what that means?

splodger15

LilSwish722

Once you open a sony update the encryption on it becomes broken and thus leaving the eboot invalid and it will not run

They have only started shipping in other words most people update to 2.80 and say they didnt know about homebrew

No kernel access means no downgrader simple 2.80 has user-mode access through the tif exploit an eloader is possible and I believe is being worked on by the noobz team

LilSwish722
October 28th, 2006, 23:11
thats all well and good but according to sony when the psp was launched. NO ONE could hack it a find kernal access. But look at all the homebrew now. Its only a matter of time until Dark_aleX or someone comes up with a downgrader. Learn what your talking about before you post on something.

i thinks it may be soon cause apparently booster has found an exploit in all firmwares and isent relesing it till 3.00 comes out.... so we shall find out soon and if this is alot of balls we still have 2.81 devhook to look foward to

potatoman
October 29th, 2006, 19:01
i think that too, because (correct me if im wrong,) a few of mph's downgraders only used flash 1 wheras the firmare is stored in flash 0, hence the 2.00 downgrader.
im not too sure, but would it not be possible to use the flash 1 access to get to the registry keys that contain the encryption keys sony uses? i know it would be tough, but is it possible? sony have to have stored the encryption keys for it SOMEWHERE in the firmware, don't they?

dudeass

maybe but i think that only decryption keys on on the FW but I need to find out more

potatoman
October 30th, 2006, 19:55
but is it not possible to generate the encryption keys from the decryption keys? ive seen it done before for passwords and the like.( you know the old Windows NT hack)
