Sony's Gamer's Day has just wrapped up, and we're learning new details from around the web. Unfortunately, details of new firmware didn't seem to be revealed. Highlights from the event include:

Demonstration of Remote Play at work: the PS3 started playing the trailer to the upcoming Bond flick Casino Royale. Then, the video was interrupted and then resumed on the PSP. It sounds exactly how it should've worked.

John Smedley from Sony Online Entertainment demonstrated PSone download functionality .The games, as expected, can be transferred to your PSP. Mr. Smedley hinted at future PSone emulation on the PLAYSTATION 3 console.
Downloadable games will $14.99 or less. To compare, N64 Virtual Console games on the Wii will cost about $10, so we're hoping Sony prices the games a little bit lower to be a little bit more competitive.

thank god psone emulation on the ps3 will be sweet, no control problems at all and it will be on your big screen tv too :D, i hope they lower the price of psone games down to 10 or even 5 dollars so that they are real cheap and easy to buy, i want a ps3 now more that i found out it will run linux and later play psone games(downloads) :D

Man, nothing on FW 3.0? I got friends who just love to update (poor souls) and I needed the Info for the Gamers Club at my school forum board.
If PS1 games are 15 bucks a piece, screw the official PS1 emulator! AC! Hurry up!
The remote play, however, does catch my eye, but not enough for me to upgrade. I can't wait to see Dark_alex or Ookum(?) find an exploit in the PS1 emulator or something like that.

Wow a little steep for colectors that have a huge ps1 library and have to pay an extra 15 for games they already own.

I agree with ya mate, $15 (about £9) is a tad expensive if you already own all those games, plus you can purchase most PS1 games second hand for a fraction of that price! ...$ony are just trying to make as much revenue they can from gamers(de-ja-vu?).

ps1 Sucks, why would u want to emulate it? Plus a big screen will just highlight how shit its graphics are. Not to mention how overly expensive it is.

At least emulate something cool like N64! ^^

Is it likely/ possible to and or that the PS1 emu can be ripped? Is anyone able to make an educated guess? A technical explanation either way would be nice :D

To be honest I'd be happy to pay that for only a hanful of games GT series and the FF series. Surely Sony will wake up to themselves and attempt to compete price wise to Nintendos' service, perhaps even undercut it because it would seem to be another reason the Wii will be the best seller of the next gen systems. Even though the sytem, except for the controller seems hardlt next gen IMO. Support those who support you SONY

I'm sure the power of the Cell will be able to run the PSOne games through some nice filters to make it look nice :)
Though I have to admit, that price is too steep.

Lets say I own just 10 ps1 games. If I want to play them on the new Sony made emulator it will be 15 bucks each. Sorry but I'm not spending 150 bucks on games I already own. I know not all ps1 games will be that expensive, but I know mine will since they are more than likely the popular ones. I really don't need ps1 on the go that bad. If I'm at home I'll just play it on my comp or my actual ps1 or ps2.

First everyone was over-rating the official PS1 emulator, saying how good it'll be and buying the old time classics. Now that the games have been priced at a Whopping $15 a title, their views have changed. It's more or less blatant that users will require to upgrade their PSP to firmware version 3.00 in order to use the emulator.

What's even more interesting is to consider how Sony will 'retail' the emulator. My guess is that they will sell it in the form of a UMD disc and will require the user to upgrade to 3.00 without question, whilst the Playstation titles will be stored on memory stick w/encryption.

The unofficial PS1 emulator looks promising (I am sure with a little patience, we'll see a good result).

It all depends on the patience of the PSP scene; either upgrade in the next couple of months to 3.00, or wait a similar amount of time and keep your homebrew safe and sound without risks of coders being unable to find an exploit in the firmware files.

That's all I have to say.

Thats funny...

What the hell is the point if PS3 was supposed to be backwards compatible with PS and PS2 games...

So I guess the PS3 is NOT compatible with PSone games and we'll have to rebuy our favorites...

no the ps3 will be backwards compatible with psone and pstwo games, im just saying i want to buy games that i dont own as downloads because i dont own any psone games, i hate buying game discs online and going to gamestop, so i was hoping ps3 would use ps1 emu because again i own no psone games
