New features (http://insomniac.0x89.org/index.php?id=61):

New background music
TRIANGLE button changes background effect between: lines, visualizer (synched to music), static image or none
SQUARE and CIRCLE now move your paddle as well as LEFT/RIGHT or the analog
Slams added. To slam the ball simply push UP when the ball is near your paddle and it will slam into the ball. You get 3 slams per game.
START button pauses and unpauses the game

You can change the background music by replacing the music.ogg file with one of your own.
Also the static background image can be changed by replacing the background.png file with a different one (480x272).

New screenshots:

Menu screen (also demo playing is in the top down view with 'lines' background effect)

The screenshots of the visualizer do not do it justice. In gameplay it looks excellent.

The first release was done within 48 hours, so the name will stay.

For the first release I started on a Friday PM and released on the Sunday PM.

I spent about 20 hours total time within that period coding, getting the audio, doing the textures etc.

The only things that were pre-made were the OGG playback and the TrueType font renderer, which I took from another project of mine.

Both of the above are available on my website.

This really is a amazing game, I see a good future for this game getting updated even more.

perhaps some game modes could be welcome now :)

That's probably the best version of pong that I've ever seen.

I know what would be good for this already excellent game, weapons, like fireballs, or lasers.

Congratulations on a new great release, Insomniac197.
This is really awesome now, and I like the new slam feature.

I have a little suggestion: How about a two-player mode where player 1 uses the directional pad / analog and player 2 uses the symbols, like Bomberman Arena (which is very fun to multiplay).
That would be really great, but just a suggestion.

Anyway, fantastic game! :)

Oh, I just remembered the old Super Pong 95, it had some cool modes like hockey, 4-way hockey (four sides, where you use left and right to control the upper and lower, and up and down to control left and right sides (the slam feature would have to be disabled for that mode, though)) and some other modes, can't really remember, but perhaps someone else does?

Aww, and there was me writing you a new BGM to go with your next release... oh well. :D

hollydan, where did you put the file? Did you read any instructions on how to play homebrew games? Why would you look in save data? It is not a save game, or is that not obvious? You read about the files above - FW10 is for PSP Firmware version 1.00, FW15 is for 1.50. If you do not have either of these then you must downgrade or get the custom 2.71 firmware mod. Instructions can be found on the left panel of psp-news.dcemu.co.uk on how to downgrade.

I played the last release and the one problem I had with it was that the trajectory of the ball didn't seem to change based on how far to the side of your paddle the ball hit. This led to some situations where the ball went perfectly straight no matter what, so I had to sit there for a few minutes without moving the paddle before the AI missed for some reason. But other than that this is an amazing effort.

I love this game. I could play it for hours. What it needs though is an option for multiple BG songs. I have a loosely insturmental version of I Am (All of Me) from Shadow the Hedgehog set as my BG music.
