Gaming charity Child's Play (http://www.next-gen.biz/filter/all/tags/47) has announced that it raised more than $3.5 million during 2011.
In a statement posted on its website, the charity, founded in 2003, confirms that 2011 fundraising came to $3,512,345. The total represents a 53 per cent improvement on the $2.29 million raised in 2010 (http://www.next-gen.biz/news/childs-play-announce-record-donations).
"The generosity of gamers has yet again been overwhelming, and our total is a number we are both amazed and humbled by," the statement reads. "All because you, as a community, came together to make a difference. And what a difference it is … There aren't enough thank-yous in the world to truly express our gratitude."
Child's Play works in conjunction with over 70 hospitals to give gaming equipment to sick children around the world. The Edge forum's annual fundraising drive (http://www.next-gen.biz/forums/videogames/childs-play-2011-regular-donation-thread-deadline-16th-december-2011) raised £1,450 for the charity, up from the £1320 raised by members in 2010.
