UK retailer Game Group (http://www.edge-online.com/filter/all/tags/1369) has denied reports that its game.co.uk website has been hacked.
Earlier today Softpedia (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Catalyst-Gaming-and-Game-Co-Uk-Hacked-Data-Leaked-246709.shtml) reported that attackers had breached Game's website security by exploiting a shell injection vulnerability, and posted email addresses and passwords in plain text of 200 users on the Pastebin website. In a statement, however, the retailer has denied any such breach had taken place.
"At Game we guard our customers' details very carefully," the company told us. "We have thoroughly investigated the hacking claims made today by the website Pastebin, and can confirm that they are entirely false.
"The published email addresses are not registered users of game.co.uk, and there has been no breach of our database security.
"We would like to assure all our customers that their details are well-protected, and advise anyone who has any questions to contact our customer services team via the website, our Facebook page, or Twitter account."
